How to best contain rage?

I'm avoiding speedrunning more and more because whenever I do, I get so abhorrently angry.

Don't get mad at video games, easy.

if u cant take the pain, dont play the game

If you get angry every time you speedrun, perhaps it isn’t for you.

To delay it the best way is to just go run and practice different games.

Why do I keep expecting actual answers from this forum? You know this forum is screwed when the most upovted post is the most useless one.

Also @starsmiley, I will only talk to you because you seem like you actually want to help. I've done speedruns for 2 and a half years. It is only recently that I started to get more and more fed up with the activity. There were times where I was legitimately happy while speedrunning.

I've had a lot of time to decide if this is "for me" and I have on multiple occasions felt that it was. But I will take your advice to try a variety of games. Maybe it's just the games I'm playing that are ticking me off and not the act of speedrunning itself. Thank you.

What answers did you expect to receive? Emotional state whilst playing games is an entirely subjective experience, and if you get uncontrollably angry from speedrunning that's not really something anyone can provide an instant solution for. As stated before, maybe it just isn't for you. Otherwise the only real suggestion I can give is to alter your mindset so that you realise losing runs is not a big deal as you can always get on another run.

They're just video games dude. Seems like you can't handle even the slightest jab either. Good luck in life, you'll need it.

Also, will add that you aren't required to use the forums. Ask stupid questions get stupid answers.

Whenever I get pissed while speedrunning, it makes my next run even worse and starts the downward repeating spiral. When that happens I tend to do some casual gaming to decompress (Chess or ALTTP random works for me) or go for a run.

Maybe put the game down completely for a while. I stopped playing Kirby's Dream Land for almost 4 months and PB'd my first week back at it.

Stress management is different from person to person, you just have to experiment and figure what works for you. Good luck buddy.

What, in particular, about is the game making you angry? Furthermore, are you angry at yourself or at the game?

If you're angry at yourself, you need to change your mindset. I play several games that can be completely cruel and merciless. It helps me to expect not to win. If I do win, great! but I don't ever allow myself to expect it. I used to beat myself up about making stupid careless mistakes that cost me the win, but once I expected to lose, it changed everything. I found that it was more fun because playing the game became more of "how far can I get before I screw up"? or "what stupid mistake am I going to make this time"? It's no good expecting perfection, because let's face it- none of us is ever going to be perfect, so we shouldn't ever realistically expect that.

If you're angry at the game, you need to stop playing it. That's not the game for you.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: I have never actually beaten the game in question. I died in three different attempts today, and it also helps to know when to set it down for the day and take a break.

@Komrade You don't have enough data on me to assume that I am doing bad in life. If you can use little amounts of data to determine someone's life, then I can say nobody wants to ask you questions because you give stupid answers. Nobody wants to rely on you. Do you see how what you just did what idiotic?

@dkm Where else can I ask this question? This is the most active speedrunning website. Of course I'm going to use this site. Why wouldn't I? And I like how you claim my question is stupid, when most people here understand what I meant and gave good answers. You are just trying to justify Komrade's laziness and unthoughtfullness. How sad.

I didn't assume that at all. Thanks for proving my point also. Have a good one.

@Komrade "Good luck in life, you'll need it."

You know damn well what you meant. You used data from this thread to determine that it would affect my life in a negative way and that I need luck in your eyes. Good fucking job lying, idiot. How is lying a good trait to have in life? Since you seem to know what it takes to have a good life. You've shown nothing but uselessness and dishonesty.

I never proved your fucking point. How fucking egotistical are you that you think me calling you out on your bullshit proves your point? No it doesn't.

I swear to God a mod or admin needs to lock this thread before I go off. I can't deal with the retardation of some people on this forum.

I mean, it does seem as though you have some anger issues, seems as though speedrunning may be a catalyst rather than a cause.

Source: I've had those same issues in the past, working through them has improved my life significantly
