Greetings! I'd very much like to learn this game, Can somebody explain to me any rules I need to follow?

Main questions: Is expert mode required? Or can the game be run on a different difficulty?

Can I play on the PC port? Or should I try to find an emulator?

On the Full-game Leaderboard there is no video. How should I time, when do I start timing, when do I stop?

Where do I start in the run? Should I start with the bootcamp? or do i start from Attack?

Please respond when it is convenient.

Thank you very much for your attention, maddavid123

Hey Maddavid,

I'll try to explain as best I can though these decisions can easily be overruled by everyone else.

  1. I just set up new difficulty categories. Have at em.

  2. Either should work. Whatever you wanna do!

  3. Not entirely sure but I'd say rule of thumb is start timing when you can move and end on last possible input.

  4. Start at bootcamp.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your quick reply!

I really appreciate it.

Thanks for clearing it all up! maddavid123

Ive been planning on routing the levels that dont have any times posted in the IL board. Also looking to optimize movement to use as few shots as possible. So if you discover anything that you believe could work feel free to share.

Hi again, Sorry for not replying faster, I'll be happy to try and help, however the PC Port looks very different compared to the N64 version, so far I've only really looked at boot camp, but when I then look at the IL for bootcamp, the map looks completely different.

I've been told that the PC Port is somewhat different, I don't know if my runs would be like runs on the N64 version at all.

Is this likely to be a problem?

Thing's I've already seen:

If I strafe sideways and then jump while strafing pretty much whenever i hit the ground I move faster than if i just run sideways. This however would mean you are facing 90 degrees to the way I'm going, this would mean you would need to know the entire map, Which shouldn't be too difficult to learn. I also do not know if this would even work on the N64 version.

This is all the stuff I've found so far. I'll try to post any more things I find.

If you are trying to optimize shots, why not run on easy? On easy you have infinite ammo in the main weapon. (forgive me I'm writing this in college so i can't check right now) and the AI is not as smart, so it should be easier to get through.

In my opinion, feel free to poke holes in it i'm always open to criticism, easy mode looks like the fastest right now, you are probably able to survive more easily and with infinite ammo in the main weapon you don't have to bother routing to get more ammo for that. I know that Easy mode is a bit of an easy way out per se, but it will probably faster.

Once again, feel free to criticise anything from within this post!

Thanks, maddavid123

I didn't know that about the PC port. If needed, we can split that into separate categories. I've already worked with subcategories on other games so it's not too bad. I think it's generally better to just say run on whatever's fastest similarly to what they do in Zelda.

I bet easy is faster as well. Just in general, if they die quicker and you get more ammo, the run will be that much better. But I can see why people would prefer other difficulties.

Hi, I don't know if sub categories are required or not, I just thought I'd let you know that the PC Port was probably different to the N64 version.

I'll do some stuff later and try to do Bootcamp as an IL this should be able to show how different the two versions are.

Thanks, maddavid123

The reason for shots is cause some enemies can be shot that may be blocking a path. Also I've noticed that when you're shot you are prevented from moving like in 03-Bathroom you won't be able to do the sud hop if you get shot.

I for one agree with this, I think that starting at attack might be a good idea. Then you can time straight away and be in-game the entire time. Whereas if you start at bootcamp, you need to do a level, then go BACK to the main menu, to go back in-game to start the campaign.

Just a thought. thanks, MaDDaviD123

I guess that's fair. It's up to you guys anyway, since you all run it!

The reason I said bootcamp is I know there are plenty of games that start at the very, very start. But honestly, I'm not sold on that either so let's change it to attack.

Hello all! I just created a new account here and I've been working on runs for this game for the n64 version. I don't have any recording equipment right now, but I plan on resolving this problem in the near future. I finally finished a decent run for all levels (no bootcamp), and the run came out to just about 40 minutes. I started the timer as soon I hit start on the main menu to start Attack, and I ended the run when "the end" text popped up after plastro spoke about revenge. I've been able to get 41s on the bathroom mission, and 2m55s on the Riff mission. 2m52-53s is definitely possible, but you're gonna have to fight a tank head-on and hope you can...."tank" it, and having Riff with you makes that a lot tougher.

Anyways, I know this doesn't mean I'm officially breaking any records yet, since it's all hearsay, but I have been able to plan out some decent routes for all the missions except bootcamp. Speaking of which, if anyone knows any good time-cuts in either the Shrap or Showdown missions, then I'm all ears lol. Ive gotten both of those missions down to about 4.5m each. Those are the two biggest pains in an all levels run, besides sud-jump of course lol. I could type up a list of my routes, but that'll take some time.

Either way, I should be getting some good recording equipment soon, and hopefully I'll have some playthrough videos shortly after that. Looking forward to joining the community!

i know a couple of skips, but I'm not sure if the PC port is by any means similar to the n64 version.
