Hello, insert touching story of how I like pokemon alot and admire speedruns Just today I set up my 1st try on speedrunning with our beloved Pokemon Red/Blue. Followed the starter kit (1), watched a few complete speedruns (namely Exarion and werster), set up my stream (haven't uploaded any video yet), Gambatte, livesplit, etc.. I found myself playing for 4 hours without even passing through route 3, was always making mistakes and had to reset every so often. (namely clicking for next segment on livesplit (everyone does this manually, right?)) All just newbie mistakes and i know it's just a matter of practice. What impressed me the most is how my time for getting nido Is already 2 to 4 minutes behind of the top runners. I know I still don't have enough tries to complain, but damn (<- is this a swear word?) I still haven't read any guides thoroughly and I'm amazed how only the 15mins of the game can be so 'hard'. I hope I get to try out some more and I can't wait to upload my first complete run! (If it's any good)

its a huge grind and the top runners are pretty much perfect. Dont focus so much on being perfect at first, just finish runs to get practice. Then you can start worrying about segment practice and working on menus. Once you get a sub 2hr time.

How to turn the timer and change splits in-game (LiveSplit): -Launch Livesplit as administrator -Turn on Global Hotkeys in settings

Hey, I'm super new too! As in, I just taught myself the route... tonight, for the first time. It's definitely a little overwhelming (I've never done a speedrun in my life,) but when I stopped worrying about my time and optimizations and decided to just familiarize myself with the route overall, I had a lot of fun. I'm not even worried about streaming or recording yet, just learning the game. Newbie high five!
