New category, Pickaxe%

A run starts with you deleting every tool in your hotbar that you spawn with, and then you have to find enough stuff to craft just a pickaxe. I've done some test runs and you can get some interesting runs and tech, though the best run will probably be heavily seed reliant. Dayout suggested a similar idea but the need to get all tools makes the run too tedious, with the need to get even more metal.

Literally just find a chest with wood and iron

I dont think this category is really necessary

I mean, cookedfish% is essentially the same with the simple added caveat of fish up one fish. This has a different caveat of you dont have any pickaxe. Or is the difference that cookedfish% requires a whopping 2 chests?

Yes i can agree that it's very seed based, but i still like the idea of it. Try it if you're just playing the game. It's almost a puzzle mode.

Seed based runs are fine - basically every run on the board is heavily reliant on seed rng. Cooked fish% is a silly category that was made a while ago based on a community meme, and no one runs it anymore. This proposed category being very similar would probably end up the same.

Came up with an idea for this because I find doing these toolless runs really fun, how about a system similar to chess puzzles or ninji speedruns.

A new seed is selected for the day, and you see if it's possible to get a pickaxe with it. This prioritization of possibility over speed means that many interesting ideas and techs will be developed. The use of wooden hammers for hoiking or harvesting cobwebs for rope, to name a few.

It would stop being a speedrun and start being a puzzle thing. I'm guessing that this isn't the right place to put anything like that so if anyone has any tips for where to put something like that, please do tell. Otherwise I guess i'll have to make my own thing.

This would essentially just be any normal speedrun but you have to go in a cave and get stuff for tools first, nothing key about the run is changed, just a minor inconvenience at the beginning of the run which increases resets ten-fold just for fun(?). Not really something worth adding to the speedrun leaderboard
