Moderators Needed

Hey all, im looking for moderators to help moderate C.O.P. The Recruit, if anyone is interested, pm me

No, this is a terrible way to get mods for a game. Ask trustworthy members of the community for the game to moderate if you need help. Never ask or mod random people who don’t run the game.

EDIT: I looked at the game and you’re literally the only runner. What do you need help moderating the board for? Are you experiencing an influx of more runs than you can handle? It doesn’t look like there is any activity on the board that would imply a need for more mods right now.

how do i find trustworthy members? also, its always best in case any activity does pick up on it.

@GoosePlays20 never add random people as moderators. You are giving people who don't know anything about the game power and control of the leaderboard. Only add people who

  1. run the game (right now it's only you, so you don't need to worry about adding mods)
  2. are trustworthy
  3. are willing to be a moderator (mod isn't a rank or a status, it's a job and not everyone is willing to devote a lot of time to a leaderboard even if they run it. Only add someone as a mod if they tell you that they want to be one)

thanks for the tip @Merl_

Taking it a step further, a reliable mod should have a respectable CV in the gaming community. At the very least a successful runner, good standing in other communities / public profile, it helps. It is a job, and an existing team verifying games is the HR department. High quality mods = Better management

hightail i respectfully disagree

it's not a job, and nobody needs any type of credentials prior to becoming a mod, especialyl for a small speedgame (such as this one) it's just something you volunteer for and then you do

Verifying runs that make it on leaderboards should be done by good, responsible people...not just willing, good volunteers, if the community is to develop. People that are semi-serious at all about their runs want this, considering the effort and time runners put in. I've even seen runs verified by the very people uploading their "own" run, I don't really agree with that either, bit bias. Isn't like the person that uploaded it would ever reject the legitimacy of it, even if that mod is considered trustworthy, but I guess that's how it is. Depends how serious you are about wanting things done right, without any shadow of doubt. Its good to disagree, makes things constructive

I kind of agree with both of you, but the way a community handles moderation depends on a lot of factors. Games like minecraft that are extremely popular and very difficult to time and verify need moderators that are exceptionally qualified and willing to devote a lot of time to the game, while smaller or older communities are willing to allow self-verification and allow people without moderation experience to be part of the team. However, for a game this small, it isn't necessary to have as strict a ruleset as mc, nor is it necessary to ban self-verification or have a large and experienced moderation team. There's only one runner so far.

I agree if a game isn't as popular, it requires less strictness, and as time goes along if it grows in popularity, with increased runners, then things get taken more seriously...that's a fair view. The part about mods verifying their own runs...I feel iffy about that one. I'm in the process of uploading runs / setting stuff up, I wouldn't verify my own stuff if I had a mod position, I would ask another member of the team to check it. If anything, that should change, as self verification is bias

I'm with you on the self verification HIghtail, less so on moderation being a job. I never verify my own runs and always reach out to my other mod if I have a new PB. It's honestly just more of a preference since I'm sure most mods verifying their own runs are doing so legitimately and because their other mods are less active or nonexistent. On the mod side of things, I agree that you need to have people passionate about the game they are modding and invested in the community for that game building to give the best experience. I don't think that has to be done with a massive amount of priority and seriousness to the extent that it would cause anyone any stress though. I have 4 children and a wife I support as well as a full time job; and while I'm sm of a fairly small game and community, I put probably an hour into it a day reaching out to others who've submitted new runs or on the discord talking up the game to keep interest alive, and that seems to work pretty well.

Guess it really depends more on the size of the community, popularity of the game, and amount of mods that are active in helping. If you have a proportionate amount of trustworthy aand active mods in any game, none of them should have to stress themselves too hard or overwork themselves to keep that community strong and board solid.
