Eh, I've been around for a bit and they are never particularly "active". Most people don't use these forums; they are speedrunning, or talking about it on that game's forums, or more so in discords these days (I actually like the discord linking feature that was added, since discord pretty much took over life over the course of time).

There use to be more stickies and posts that mods used to address concerns; those tended to be pretty active. But that was all replaced. That probably reduced a lot of the forum traffic.

It's pretty simple. A lot of the past forum traffic came from stickied threads site staff would use to handle all sorts of things like moderation requests, applying tags/platforms etc. to boards, requesting marathons etc. etc. but all of that has been archived and replaced by the Support Hub. The 'promotion' of the Support Hub Elo did back when it released probably also led to most people that would typically post their questions/concerns in the forums to now create a ticket for such things. If you have a concrete question or legitimate concern, the best way to receive the most accurate answer is to just raise a support ticket since that's where Site staff now operates.

True, new tools in the site have replaced the forums

Even if there is low activity here, and so what, this is not a reason to leave this forum because there are adequate users here with whom you can talk on various topics. Perhaps the forum's activity is falling because speed runs are no longer as interesting to people as before. I once created my website dedicated to gaming news thanks to this company https://wearephoenix.ca/website-design-vancouver/. So now there is no such activity on my site, so I will use SEO services that promote the site and increase its activity because even during a pandemic when people are at home, I have low online on my site.

Curious if you are a bot or just a very lost user.

because they are and they have been ever since elo came into the scene. this site had so much potential but that potential was wasted due to elo's terrible management decisions and most importantly, due to not listening to the community who built this website and made it big in the first place. it's a lost cause at this point and i would love to see it completely die down because that's the only way the high ups at elo will understand that this site is in a miserable place right now.

They started listening to ideas, I even got a response to one of my support hub feedback tickets. They are releasing updates at a decent pace, and the new community manager is great ;)

@| You submit troll runs lmfao, like we're going to listen.
They started listening to ideas, I even got a response to one of my support hub feedback tickets.
assuming your information is correct then that is only 50% of the problem sort of solved, the other half is actually implementing said tickets. also just because you got a response doesn't mean that they started listening to ideas, i have a ticket submitted for a little over 8 months with no response as of yet and i'm certainly not the only one that is being ignored, so if they really are listening to ideas now they should be listening to most if not all of them that seem reasonable instead of responding to 1 ticket and ignoring the next 10 tickets (just an example).
the new community manager is great
sadly the management team of src doesn't just consist of meta and starsmiley which are doing their job wonderfully. there's a whopping 5 accounts on the entire site that have the elo staff badge, of which 1 of them is literally an alt account and keep in mind that this site is approaching 1 million users. for a comparison, back when times were simpler and pac was running the site with only about 100-200k users there were at least 10 content mods or staff members that were actively keeping the site alive (keep in mind that 10 is a generous understatement, there could have even been 15-20 staff members). and by far the most important change for me personally is that this site was created by speedrunners as a hub where speedrunners could submit their times to compete against each other. no more, no less. but after elo stepped into the scene, the site was no longer owned by speedrunners and improving its primary function as a database for speedruns wasn't the main focus of the owners anymore, their focus shifted to making as much money as possible off of it. (also, now names of the true owners of the site are being kept secret, we don't know who is responsible for those decisions anymore)

Just because the ticket was not responded does not mean it was ignored, and Meta said there is a list of things they are implementing. They have been listening to some requests, and have started with better moderator tools. I am sure that there are things wrong with the site, and some not great features, but they haven’t done a bad job as of recent.
@| You submit troll runs lmfao, like we're going to listen.
ok so submitting low effort runs now invalidate your right to state your opinion about a subject on a public forum, got it. then no one should listen to what @Tutterey and many others have to say.

(not that I usually post, so I haven't contributed to the dead-ness of the forums but...) Finals are happening and stuff. Also, I find myself visiting the site less and less since the redesign. It's just too butt ugly to want to look at, especially the actual leaderboards(not too mention the ultra invasive "stats" that are now on every profile and actually discourage me from using the site 'cause most of these things are not anyone's business to know in the first place).

What @L is saying looks wrong. There might be a few problems and elo is trying to make money, yes, but the site is far from dead and with the activity it has now, given that its approaching 1M users, the forums should be way more active. Even though many havent gotten a response after submitting support hub tickets, our tickets are being reviewed and maybe the should tell us about them but even if they dont its not what is causing the forums to die. Also, theres a difference between a troll run (like a rickroll) and a low effort run but I cant say much about @i bc I dint know anything about them. I do agree that even if you submit troll runs you can say things that make sense and we should read them in that case (Note: It doesnt let me mention the | Im trying to mention)

@Moknicorra if you want to, in your privacy settings you can disable those stats, except for games moderated. I absolutely agree with leaderboard redesign problems.

First of all, all the tickets are reviewed, but are just not responded to, and even @Meta has talked about this in the discord. Also, suggestions for the site take time to implement, especially when ELO has multiple other high traffic sites they also have to work on.

Personally, I see the current site changes as an awkward in-between of what the site used to look and function like, and how ELO intends for the site to look and function like. As we are approaching higher and higher monthly visit counts, performance will also be a big factor as well, so this could potentially be another issue that has been delaying some new content on the site.

Lastly, adding another site mod is expensive when you account for payroll. Maybe they need another one, maybe not, but that's the company's call, and there are numerous reasons why volunteers might be an issue at the current moment.

@| Forgive me for randomly calling you out. I don't know what came over me, but it was very rude and inappropriate of me to do so.
First of all, all the tickets are reviewed, but are just not responded to.
what's stopping them from doing it? even if there are too many tickets that the mods can't physically respond to all of them then it's not that hard to code a program that sends the submitter an email automatically when their ticket has in fact been reviewed by a mod. i would really like to see if any of the mods cared to read through my ticket or not so that i know if it got ignored. they don't even need to send an email or to respond to it, all i want is to see some kind of confirmation that my ticket did in fact get reviewed and didn't go unnoticed. even a notification in the message box would do the job, or a tiny message at the bottom of the ticket.
Maybe they need another one, maybe not, but that's the company's call.
i'm not saying they need another site mod, i'm saying that they need more than just 1 more site mod, or at the very least, give volunteers a chance to moderate for free and see how it goes. if they do a good job, they could get hired as official mods of the site, and if not they can simply be reverted back to a regular user.
adding another site mod is expensive when you account for payroll.
you said this at the beginning of your post
suggestions for the site take time to implement, especially when ELO has multiple other high traffic sites
i struggle to believe that even with 2 or more other sites that have over a million users active monthly and even with all the ads they put on speedrun.com itself that they aren't making enough money to hire more staff. i would understand if elo was a business that was just starting out but this is clearly not the case. they most likely can financially afford hiring new staff members but aren't doing it yet for some reason.

I'm not even going to try and argue this anymore.

But src is doing just fine, site mods are getting through tickets, game requests, and other such support hub issues in the matter of a few days right now which is great. ELO owns 7 large websites, and a dynamic ad engine. The rate at which issues are being resolved on the site is actually quite fast considering the size of the projects the company are working on.
