Well.. we can't complain to an opinion.

Can this thread stop getting spammed with this particular discussion now? At this point it's just user's butting heads against each other. Nothing is going to come from arguing back and forth with users here.

I've given you the route to take if you want to pursue this further.

Hello, im currently running "Minecraft: Terra Swoop Force" quite a lot (recorded records in almost all categories, not all of them uploaded tho), but the only moderator (penguin9541) is super inactive and blocks me off all the time. I talked to Illumina (minecraft main mod) but even he cant add me since he is no mod eighter. He told me its pretty suspicious why he is no mod and told me i should search for help here. Even more suspicious is that penguin9541 verified a record of himself that is not legit (Nox% category)

It would be nice if I could be modded there to finally be able to not care about that (in my opinion quite unqualified) mod and verify my scores. If noone trusts me (since i am quite new to the scene) you can also mod Illumina aswell, he was wondering, why he is no admin on a sub-category of Minecraft anyways.

Thanks for the help in advance PanNic97

@PanNic97 The mod appears active, he was last online today... so I'm unsure of what you mean by 'inactive'. They appear to be actively verifying runs, as all your runs that were submitted today have been accepted.

Also, in what way is his run not legit? From glancing at it, it appears to follow the timing presets/rules given in the category.

Yes he responded now, thanks first of all.

Regarding the wrong verification: Im pretty sure Nox% is for collecting all "Noxesium" Gems in the lategame and to unlock the "Special Suit" which is a Unicorn Suit that you get in a completely different room than the "normal" Suit he collected.

So why is the Goldeneye leaderboard not deleted, if it's so irrelevant that the admin can't even be bothered to enforce the rules that apply to any other leaderboard on it?

@PanNic97 Actually, penguin9541, is quite active, which I know for a fact considering I moderate a leaderboard that he mods.

Now im not saying im an expert on that specific leaderboard, but chances are he followed his own rules. If he didn't, you have several social media where you can contact him.

The only thing that I'm going to say here is that I do think it's dangerous that any legitimate player can suddenly be taken off a leaderboard for a reason completely unrelated to speedrunning. In addition, if the leaderboard for goldeneye on this website isn't being properly maintained, the only reasonable thing that should be done is nuke the boards (like mega man games did) and link to the website, at least the IL portion should.

Valhalla

My guess is they will be nuked now.

If someone does a legit run, it belongs on a leaderboard. There's no getting around that. I thought this was enforced on srcom, you'd think that the largest speedrunning site would give half a damn about leaderboard integrity. Apparently I was wrong.

This is really not that hard to understand. If the admins of what is effectively the official website of speedrunning prefer politics over leaderboard integrity that says a big deal about what speedrunning really is.

  1. Folks should really move this conversation elsewhere. It's disruptive to the function of this thread. And I'm about to disrupt it more with this, but...

  2. I feel this needs to be said as a couple people have made mention that communities don't matter or shouldn't matter to leader boards. While I personally agree with the sentiment that leader boards should be impartial, there's no magical gnomes that maintain leader boards. There's no cyberpunk novel A.I., and no magical guardian beasts tasked with world record keeping for video games either. Communities maintain leader boards, communities ARE the leader boards. Communities are who you are competing against and helping find new strategies. Community is the very foundation of this hobby, and saying it doesn't matter is fundamentally not understanding the who and how of why leader boards exist in the first place. Therefore, no matter what your opinions are, leader boards are community based. That said, communities are human, and humans are flawed.

I think everyone agrees in theory that everything should be about the content of the run. That's not the issue.

The issue is you are asking the admin team at SRC to effectively seize control of a board, kick the community that runs it out (used to run it, really, since it moved off site), and appoint you or someone else favorable to you a moderator of it just so you can display your runs somewhere. You'll be the only one using that board. Why should they do this? What does it get you? And why not try to engage the community (other than the mods you pissed off) at the other site first? Why is anyone here obligated to help you over the community over there? What authority does SRC have to do this really, when the actual community has no say in this?

I don't know what boards you're looking at here, but from my perspective, the admin team here almost always sides with the majority of the community when it comes to stepping in when moderation comes off the rails. Their function is to facilitate communities figuring out their leader boards themselves, even if that means that the community chooses to make leader boards elsewhere, and SRC giving up oversight. That is what impartiality looks like.

I've said my piece.

I wouldn't be the only one using the board. It's still actively updated. The idea that it's inactive is literally a falsehood being spread simply because it is less active than the-elite.net. As for humans being flawed and thus being unable to be impartial, I guess I must be superhuman then.

If the Super Mario 64 moderators didn't like cheese05, do you think it'd be okay, since it's a "community leaderboard" (another term for leaderboard which allows moderator abuse), to remove his legendary world records from the leaderboards? Or because his world records are so popular, they shouldn't be allowed to, but because my world records are less popular, they should? Do you seriously believe this ridiculous line of reasoning?

An impartial leaderboard recognizes records regardless of how hated the person who sets them is, or regardless of how much the community doesn't want to accept it. No shit people being destroyed by an outsider who isn't like the rest is going to piss them off. Imagine if sports worked this way. Any big rival team or competitor who wins big even though everyone wants him to get fucked? Hey, I know! Just fuck him by refusing to acknowledge how much he's beating everyone. Even look to Smash: Imagine there was a vote among Super Smash Bros. Melee players about whether or not to ban Hungrybox from competing in the game, and all the whiny babies who get mad about his playstyle or personality vote to bar him from tournaments. That flies in the face of the very meaning of competition.

Complete bullshit.

Just go ahead and delete the SRC Goldeneye leaderboards, nothing of value will be lost.

I think there is a difference between being banned from a leaderboard or being banned from a community..

Anyway, the SRC admins told you what you should do from here. Take their advice.

@mocha Hi, im the Supermod for High Stakes.

I Dont really need any additional mods for the game. Your runs have only been in the queue for about 3 days, and we have already talked about your runs in DM's. i only just saw your second set of DM's because as i mentioned, i have been working, so im not able respond to dm's instantly. It will be done when i have the time.

United Kingdom

@mocha Lonne isn't inactive and your runs have only been sat for 3 days, not a week.

@JPoint24 A few days isn't long enough to be requesting mod. The current super mod is active, ask them.
