Many problems with Mt. Moon manip

Hello everybody!

I started with learning the basics of the speedrun and up till Mt. Moon I can play pretty well. The Nidoran manip was easy to master, but oh boy, how much trouble I have with the Mt. Moon manip. I am able to get to TM01 pretty often, but it is very inconsistent. I do all my imputs correctly, but sometimes (I think because of the keyboard lag), I miss turns, bumb into an item or press a just too early or too late. I have been practising it since Tuesday, but it is getting more frustrating by the hour and I feel like I won't be able to get a good time unless I get the Mt. Moon manip done.

Does someone have tips for me how I should control the imputs or some other great tips? It's the only game I'd like to speedrun, since it doesn't require many hours just to beat it and it would be a shame if I have to ditch the game because of a failed manip. Thanks!

You should definetely not feel bad for having trouble learning this manipulation. I'm 4th place and I still mess up the manip sometimes. You could be doing something wong that you don't know, so making a video showing inputs is never a bad idea. Besides that, you really dont need to succesfully do the manipulation in order to get a decent time.

Thank you very much!

I've been practising today and I figured out a way to not bumb into items anymore. Apparently I can hold the a-button as soon as I step on the tile. While doing this I've gotten up to the Moon Stone quite consistent, so I hope to finish it within a day or two. Then I can finally start incorporating the manipulation in my run and continue on to Mistey. If I fail, I will try to do the backup Paras manipulation if necessary.

You can try an easier manip and still get a decent time! When you feel like your PB is being held back because of not using the faster manip, practice that one, but until then I think you should start with easier stuff. That being said, I've been speedrunning this for only about 2 weeks, and I haven't even tried the fast mt moon manip, but those are my 2 cents. Good luck!
