I recently bought a hdmi capture card (the one that was recommended on this forum https://www.amazon.com/Capture-Streaming-Broadcasting-Conference-Teaching/dp/B09FLN63B3/ref=sr_1_3?crid=34NO7FV4XRSTF&keywords=HDMI+capture+card&qid=1644420252&sprefix=hdmi+capture+card%2Caps%2C208&sr=8-3) and it worked perfectly at first, but now all i see are rainbow bars and i only occasionally see the game flicker for a second. im using a nintendo switch. the odd thing is it worked perfectly fine before but now it wont.

Those el cheapos from amazon break really quickly. There are actually knockoff knockoffs from those and usually you wanna look for them on aliexpress instead of amazon as amazon has the more expensive and usually not as great working capture sticks.

Overall these are very low quality and you will burn through them eventually. Try to switch usb ports. Could be that the bandwidth is just all used up on that usb controller.

Buy something from Elgato I been using the same capture card for like 6 years https://www.elgato.com/en

Dont ever buy elgato unless they are dirt cheap. Elgato hardware really is bad compared to other competitors.

I've been running with my MiraBox for almost 2 years with no issues. Crazy good value but it seems to be pricy outside the US.

@MidoriAster there was also a warning in the megathread about that, unlucky that urs seems bad. https://i.imgur.com/tpw7Ngf.png

ive got the AVerMedia LGX it cost me 150€ in 2018 but like 50€ of that was import fees. has been a really good capture card that supports hdmi and component. only con is that it cant capture lower resolutions than 480i/p so capturing ps1 games through ps2 with component required me to use a ps2 homebrew app to upscale it

Yeah honestly, just get an internal avermedia card and you are good to go.

My old one lasted me 14 years and only "stopped working" because of compatibility issues with my new mainboard/cpu/chipset (idk what it is). It now is sitting in the PC of my fiancee. Im saving up for a new Avermedia card, but due to inflation here, I cannot afford a new one. However I will go again for an avermedia card due to the reliability. The software for both avermedia and elgato are pretty shitty but you will use OBS anyways. If you really wanna get an elgato, save yourself another 100€ to go right for a magewell capture card, those are worth the money but extremely expensive.

And everyone should just stop buying elgato crap until they finally start improving their products again.

EDIT: Checked the new avermedia software and forget what I said. It is improved a lot. At this point, there is 0 reason to get an elgato card when they are 1) more expensive 2) have less features and c) to questionable things to achieve promised features (duping frames to "emulate" high refresh rate)

Yeah as someone who owned a HD60S, I can confirm that there's really no reason to get an Elgato.

A lot of people have been recommending avermedias (even well outside of the scope of this thread), so it's likely a good option too.

I still personally recommend the MiraBox though if you can get one where you're at for under $50. Feels like it has a flimsy build quality, but it works perfectly fine and I've been using it and traveling with it without a case for 2 years at this point.

Edit: only possible issue with it would be if you want above 1080p and 60 FPS, but I don't personally care for that, so I forgot to mention it.
