Kbs went from above 500 straight to 0-30

So here's the deal. I lost connection while I was testing my stream. I run my streams on an emulator on my laptop with OBS Studio and my Internet connection runs on Wi-Fi. Then I started my stream and was streaming smoothly until 20 minutes and my kbs went from 500-700 straight down to 0 and continued varying from 0-30. I don't think my bitrate is the problem as I can stream fine without lagging with it, even when someone's watching TV with Wi-Fi. I have 12 GB RAM on my laptop. So can someone tell me if something is interfering with my stream?

RAM has nothing to do with it. If your bitrate suddenly plummets the only things I can think of as immediate causes would be an Internet blip (like temporarily losing service, even if it’s a few seconds) or a high usage on your CPU. Your bitrate can also drop if twitch hiccups on their end. If the ingest server you were streaming to had a minor blip, it would cause issues for your stream.

If it happens a lot, check your CPU usage to make sure it’s not spiking, and maybe change what twitch server you’re streaming to and see if those resolve it.

I think an ethernet cable will solve your problems. Streaming via Wi-Fi is just asking for trouble IMHO.

(edit) ^adding to above, this kind of thing only happens to me when one of my roommates decides to upload a video to facebook or start up Netflix during my stream.
