IL Level and Rules Discussion

I'm making this post in regards to giving some input on the current IL structure.

The "Campaign" and "Any Boost Level" categories are completely unnecessary and should be removed. If at some point someone does runs of the "Extra Boost Levels" for the them then it would make more sense to add/rename it to something along that line.

Main "Zone Play" category ruleset is proper as with any IL category it should follow a general NG+ ruleset that would apply for its case. No one will do a boost level lower then 9 which is the highest achieved during normal play unless they are attempting it as more of a challenge so it so probably have the rules updated to say "Maximum Boost Level 9".

I would suggest adding in "Boost Level 1" as a category that would be fun and challenging for IL runs as a replacement to the ones being removed.

Keeping the "Normal" and "Hard" as sub categories.

Anyways I hope to continue to do more runs of this fun game and Should the suggestions go through likely expect submissions for those in the near future and for the main Full-Game runs.

Cheers and Good Luck!

Hey, I recently acquired mod status for this game, so I can address your post and fix up some stuff on the leaderboards.

-I am okay with leaving "Campaign" as an IL category because it would perfectly match how each zone is played in a full-game run and would be an excellent reference for anybody learning the game. The extra zones past Zone 9 can have blanked out IL times for this category. I'm not married to this, though, and if nobody is going to use this category, I might as well delete it.

-For the other IL categories, I think it makes sense to have a "Max Boost" category, which is what it looks like the current "Zone Play" category is set up as. I can adjust the category name to more accurately reflect what it actually is.

-"Boost Level 1" is an interesting idea for an IL category, but I don't really want to just have another empty IL board. If you or another runner does some Level 1 ILs, I will happily add it at that time.

-For the main categories, I am fine with leaving them separated as Any% and Hard Mode. I don't think they need to be put into sub-categories - I moderate several other PS1 games with different game modes and that is the leaderboard structure I use for those.

I'm open to feedback on any of these items - the community around this game is exceptionally small, so nothing should require a ton of discussion. Now that the game has an active mod, I can more easily make a bunch of changes. Feel free to contact me on Discord to get in touch more easily regarding the game. I will make a server for this game to make discussion a little easier.

I finally noticed that you had taken over on the board since it appeared that the previous ones went MIA, I had attempted to reach out to one of them via a DM on the site and socials but no responses. I still have been doing runs regardless but I'm happy someone is maintaining the board once again.

I would like to talk tho more specifically about why the rules with emulation are not equivalent to the options we have that most people use as were mentioned, I use Bizhawk and PCSX2 which are most recent updates. I mainly do runs for Omega Boost on Bizhawk but I'm mentioning PCSX2 because that is another commonly used emulation to date which is on level for accuracy with Bizhawk at the very least.

I normally crop my captures to have the nest and loo nice on screen because the bordering and such is fairly ugly to look at, would it be easier just to show some of the display options like fps, frame count and inputs? Anyways thank you for the responses to the original topic I posted, I will get in touch more as needed.

PCSX2 is mainly a PS2 emulator so it's not really a good idea to use it for PS1 games. It's also not particularly good - the current list of allowed emulators are all far more accurate.

The reason showing the borders and such for Bizhawk is required is due to the ease of cheating - since it is the primary TASing emulator, extra verification is required in order to show that the run is not just an input file being played back. If you would like to have a clean game capture without showing any other options, you can use Retroarch as outlined in the forums, provided you follow the rules specific to that emulator.

While I'll continue to do runs as I have been I likely will not be submitting them then due to my disagreements on the current rulesets that were put into place. I know cheating could be an issue but considering how the game preforms and works I don't see any reason to show the whole window when we can enable things to be showing within screen bounds at least for Bizhawk which is what I use for psx runs. I do now have the capability of capturing from hardware now but it would still look just the same as If I used Bizhawk. Anyways thank you picking up on the board and such I'll keep tabs on things here and maybe just share my runs occasionally if anything for the time being.
