Issue regarding category ruleset.

I'm happy that we can now at least have reasonable dialogue concerning the issue, as opposed to being completely shut down. I disagree with the current rules and the reasoning behind them for Any%. The point and the generally understood definition of an Any% speedrun is to beat the game as fast as possible. For there to not be such a category, at all, on the board and apparently only because the one super moderator doesn't like it while multiple people are asking for it, is hard to understand. Sure, there can be other categories. Nothing wrong with 1cc, nothing wrong with Deathless, and nothing wrong with having a separate Any%.

[Edit] I decided to delete part of this post due to it not being relevant or productive to the purpose of this thread. Sorry for the distraction.

This has been discussed on the Double Dragon discord at length, and I'm definitely in agreement. The rules that define Any% for this game are shaky at best, and while I'm all for a 1cc category, they really should be split into two separate categories. I'm also of the opinion that having each category broken down my character is a tad arbitrary, but that's neither here nor there. At the end of the day, I definitely stand with the side of "prove it" and await the decision of the moderator committee.

Anthopants and I discussed it the other day, and we will be adding a continue % category that allows deathglitching and continues, and the rule that it must be done post-patch will be carrying over. The Double Dragon Discord is unofficial as well and they won't have any say on the rules or the team, especially if they go behind people's backs. (Most of the people who run on this page are either on BN or in Antho's stream channel, it's not not like we don't know each other) All concerns should be posted here. I will get to it in the coming week, and will be divided by character as usual.

Any other questions post here.

Edit: The new category is now up. I am (and some others) are strongly against this category, as I think Anthopants and A1Major really settled this issue long ago (maybe it'll make a difference with the lower tier characters, but not sure) and I feel that people that do it in one credit definitely deserve more recognition as the world record holder because they completed it without dying out, but here it is anyway. If it pleases more people to have this so be it.

Thank Anthopants for getting to me on a quick turnaround.

Thanks, NightmareJames.

I don't know if you saw what I said before I edited them this morning, but I realized I had a major tone problem and made some important changes to the 2 previous posts I made on the matter, including deleting a lot of irrelevant one-sided ranting.

Of course the Discord isn't official, it's just a chat hangout. The issue was discussed there because multiple people felt like they were shut down cold on this site and didn't understand why. I spoke up, and ultimately said more than I should have, because these are people that I like and respect, this is a game series I feel a personal connection towards and because I plan on doing DD4 speedruns, myself, very soon.

We'll be seeing each other around, hopefully on good terms after moving past this, and hopefully doing our respective part to remind others how great the Double Dragon series is.

SDA rules, from when you press start on the controller (assume control), to when you lose control (when making the hit on the final boss of the track). That's how I have been timing the tracks.

Yes, it is OK to submit on all platforms, Hermit did already (hence the double score)

You'd have to.direct that question to Anthopants, since he verified A1's run.

The only vote taken on TBN was this, we haven't had any major points of contest before this.

I'm against it, but when Anthopants addresses this I'll consider it more. Up to really him at the moment, since he made this call.

Serpent, that's not happening. I know where to contact him. He'll be here later. Sorry charlie.

Here's what I think:

Any% should just be Any%. I don't know if we need other categories, I'd prefer to keep it simple at this point. Speedruns evolve as people discover new tricks, the more rules we set the less likely we are to find, and or share, something interesting. If we ever get to the point where an exploit completely ruins the game then we can discus that, but it doesn't sound like we are anywhere near that yet.

The timing: you start your timer at character select and you stop it when the MISSION ALL CLEAR! pops up. It's just so much easier to time it this way.

I'll do my best to help with questions.

I changed over the any%.

I can't remove the other category because of the existing scores and don't know of any merging topics offhand, so it's been renamed as of now.

Everybody will have to record new runs for the new any% starting as of today (to put everybody on equal footing)
