Naming conventions for games with same name

I'm going to be submitting a game request for the upcoming Zelda: Link's Awakening game, and I'm curious what the common convention is for naming games like this that are full remakes.

That is, which of these (or other) is best?

  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch)
Canada

Both seem to be appropriate. Personally, I'd tend to lean towards the year when that's an option, and use platform when you have multiple releases in the same year.

Well, you're not gonna need to submit a game request for it, and any game request you do submit for it will be declined. It's a series game, so the series mods will create the board for it.

Thanks for feedback. I had a harder look at the submission rules and it seems to suggest platform over year, so I went with that (and besides, it feels clearer to me).

@EmeraldAly I'm actually one of the mods for the GB/GBC Link's Awakening games, just not familiar with how other people have handled these kinds of things.

Using the year would be more ideal as there is no saying if far into the future that the game will get ported to a future console. Typically if a game uses the console instead it is because there are multiple games using the same name but the games across other platforms are not the same or different enough to warrant a split from the original board.

Liv, may I present to you, the beginnings of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Two Sonic 1's in 1991, two Sonic 2's in 1992, all different games. When you figure out why they thought that was a good idea, please let me know.
