I'd like to change my opinion on this topic to be more nuanced.
The idea of allowing people a direct avenue to support the site and get some perks is a good one that I support. I think the term "subscriptions" that was used initially turned me off the idea and made it seem like more of a requirement than it was.
However, I agree with @Solderq35 on the ads. That's really what I have a problem with - that the ads are intrusive and block most of the content of the screen, and even when blocked the empty space takes up too much of the screen. While adjacent to the supporter feature, it is not a problem that the supporter feature is causing.
I guess my dissatisfaction is more expressive of the general direction src has been going recently, rather than this specific feature.
@diggity summed up pretty much exactly what I came down to say, a lot of sr.c users will recall donating to the site to remove adverts, which worked completely well, this 'supporter' system is just a rework of that but in the context of the site's recent direction, it feels unbearable. As someone who's already paid to remove adverts, albeit, before Elo, I have no interest in this service because the other 'perks' are a waste of time and I'll continue to use adblockers.
I don't even get ads, only blank boxes where they should be and I don't use an ad blocker, is it meant to be like be like that?? Only the video ad works that's usually in the bottom left
I think this update is now live!
Your(you're >:D) an original donor, you get it for free for life
yeah like pear said i only got it for a month but i wish
announcement said only 21 people got it free for life.
Where did it say that lol
yall are stupid if you buy this shit, outside of cosmetics the only appeal of it is no ads which is useless since 98% of the people who use this site use free adblockers. there is genuinely no point. a site like this shouldnt have a fucking subscription service ffs, if you want to have some sort of way for people to give back to you then make it a one time payment. just add like some sort of donation link or something if people want to donate more than $4. for now this is just stupid.
