My opinion is such that, option 1 should be implemented, but option 3 should be striven for. Definitely, adding High Scores to SRC is a good way to expand upon what's been built here. I think, for sure, securing the highscore domain would be a best case scenario, as you could functionally tie both sites together. I think, there will be resistance coming from the highscore community as the hierarchical structure of moderators is(I'm guessing) significantly more distributed here at SRC. So that's another issue to be mindful of.

This is great news and glad you are considering building a site for it. But for now, can't a "score" field be added underneath the "time" field when submitting a run? I have been wanting to at least associate my score with the run for tracking purposes.

Option 1, adding high scores to speedrun.com, is the best option. Every other option boils down to creating a new site in some form, which is unnecessary. Firstly, there isn't anything that a high score site needs to do differently from what speedrun.com already has, aside from sorting leaderboards by score rather than time, which is an easy task. For the majority of games there's significant overlap between the playerbase and resources. It's clear there's already high demand for scores here, some games close to rivalling Cyberscore despite no official implementation. And using one account to submit everything in the same place is more desirable than constant switching. This also applies to moderation. Scores could be implemented on speedrun.com in a few different ways. Some users will want to see only scores/speedruns, others wanting a mix. A third tab after "Full-game Leaderboard" and "Level Leaderboard" called something like "High Score Leaderboard" as many have suggested should work, with settings available similar to those for IL runs so it can be ignored easily if desired. There could be a more distinct separation ("modes" for the site like Forstride suggested) or an extremely similar sister site but I think that's overcomplicating the whole thing and limiting the convenience greatly. A more representative domain name isn't worth the hassle for users, let alone the price.

Ideally, scores here would have some crossover with the other high score sites. Giving mods the option to import all scores from another site, only those that have some type of proof, only those with a video, etc, would work well and could be updated automatically when new scores appear on other sites. Imported scores could be marked as such with a variable stating the original site and a link provided. There could also be an option to auto submit scores from other sites, yet still have moderators here approve them. When it comes to moderation, for classic high score-focused games there would be conflict if the current speedrun.com mods for that game handled score moderation, so the distinction of speedrun mods and newly chosen high score mods would be good. For small games these would be the same person/people though, so the feature should be optional.

I think rolling with option 1 would work. Going to a whole separate website for the same game seems kind of ridiculous. A name is only a name. My favorite thing about speedrun.com is how comprehensive it is so adding another layer seems like a bonus to me.

If the community decides to do option 3, I'd be willing to donate to get the domain name.

Just an observation, but if you go to highscores.com right now the site is almost $100,000 to buy. If it wasn't that expensive then I would go for that option, but trying to get option 3 from the owner of highscore.com is probably the best option.

The next option I would go for is making a new site with a new name. Something along the lines of gamescores.com or vgscores.com or something like that. You would have to start from scratch, but it could be the same layout and all that as speedrun.com but for high scores.

The next option I would go with is adding it on speedrun.com. Just because it isn't a top option doesn't mean it's a bad option, because even though the name doesn't make sense, who cares. This site is for leaderboards for speedruns, so you can incorporate leaderboards for high scores with relative ease.

The worst option I would say is trying to improve highscore.com. If the owner isn't letting you buy the site, he probably won't let you help him out, but hey who knows.

This site shouldn't be come a conglomerate for video game record keeping, just speedruns. Go with 4 or start a crowdfunder for 3.

i would go with option 3 first. then if that doesnt work, i would definetly go with option 4. if all else fails, go with option 1. option 2 is not a good option at all. the mods at highscore dont have enough power to do what is needed. the site is a mess and serious does not really like getting involved with any problems going on. we need to start from scratch with highscores to make a site better than all the others out there. a complete take over of highscore.com would definitely be better than a partnership. operating a score site to work like speedrun. com is an amazing idea and would work better than what all the other score sites are doing.

I will go with add high scores to speedrun.com too. As much as possible in one place. Popular place and in time people will use this instead of others.

I would just add them here and allow High Score categories. Some games basically already do this on the site, too. Some games can have both depending on the game modes available.

Hello, I'm a user who comes from the died site wii-records. I'd vote for option 1. If I can suggest this was the pattern that wii-records followed:

1- Obviously games and its charts. 2- The user submitted scores. 3- User submitted proofs. 4- Moderators/admins made approves/rejects. 5- If the score was approved, the score appeared in the site.

That site worked perfectly during 10 years getting over than 170000 scores until its death. Personally i have over 9 thousand scores. I'd name Video Games Highscores(dot)com.

In my opinion Option 1 works well, making speedrun.com a nice central place to look at people playing video games really well

Option 1 seems reasonable, as most console videogames don't have a scoring system, with some exceptions

It's a difficult question, but the only thing that I know is that speedrun (dot) com is about speedruns, and, personally, I wouldn't like to see highscores in this web. Although is your web and you will have always the last decision.
