You know how this website allows ROM hacks. Well, they are illegal so what now? Out of curiosity what could happen if the company finds out there is a ROM Hack of their game and sues the developers of it? Well, it affect speedrun.com too if it has been on speedrun.com? Is speedrun.com invincible in court when sueing a ROM Hacker? Will they be required to take the game down from their website? And even if speedrun.com doesn’t get involved, what will happen to the leaderboard once the game is unplayable? Take Super Mario Odyssey Superstar Mode for example, created by SHELUX. Now, I like to watch SHELUX’s videos sometimes but he could get in trouble.

ROM hacks aren't illegal. Piracy is illegal. Site rules say that you are not allowed to post or link game ROMs on the site.

Knee-jerk nonsense. SRC has no culpability in posting a link to a video hosted on an entirely different platform of a game played off ROMs. SRC isn't hosting ROMS, or even hosting videos of ROMS.

It depends on the country for the legality of rom hacks, but sr.c doesn't host commercial game rom distribution so they're legally in the clear.

Like Liv said, a ROM hack is basically just a mod. As long as the distribution of the hack doesn’t include the game itself, it’s fine.

Yep, its why romhacks are all distributed as patches these days.
We've gotta stop children from being able to use the internet unsupervised.
Absolutely not! The last thing we should be promoting is spying on others. Instead I would argue we just need to straight up take away their access to the internet until they're old enough to behave responsibly.

@1 Actually it depends on each children or teenager. Some children or teenager can behave responsibly when they are young. It is a stereotype that all children are childish or teenager are not responsible. Instead, I think it is good for child and teenager to get in touched with internet because of the general trend of the technology development and now it is an information age. Internet can also be used for education purpose as well.

But I agree @Drakodan children may need supervision of using internet, specifically for the children who cannot handle things by themselves.

(and hey, isn't this thread supposed to talk about ROM hack)
