Hi, new to speed running, curious about some nuances and rules.

Greetings everyone, it's my first time submitting a speed run and I was curious about what was accepted. Sorry for any questions that may seem like common sense.

Are cosmetic mods allowed? I imagine a large chunk of us also stream, so mods like shirtless Carlos can make it more entertaining. Shirtless Carlos also stands out more, and is easier to see during instances of heavy motion blur, so are mods like these considered unfair?

Does putting a NG+ coin/item in your inventory, on accident, invalidate the entire run? (Even if you put it back immediately)

As a new runner is there anything I can do to help the moderators?

I sent in my speed run as raw footage, complete with "headphone intensive" moments, pee breaks, and a lull 2 minutes too long at the end. I have excellent editing software, and it would've taken about 3 minutes to make the video more watchable, but that's against the rules right? As a content creator I'd rather go and clean it up.

Anything you all wish you knew right when you started would be welcome as well. I've been trying to learn from Lucylover other speed runners like an apt sponge.

Take care yall.

Hey,

To answers your first quentions, cosmetic mods are currently forbidden, so everything that "modify" the game.

I read that even if you take NG+ item but you put them in the box back without closing the box, it can be accepted.

Correct me if i'm wrong!

Welcome dude

should be able to edit, menu difficulty select to end stats, nothing in between. Many runners stream/record for hours run after run they really need to edit that.

saucedallas93 covered the rest.

Much appreciated guys :)

Just to be super clear, because I think I could have been more clear.

Exactly what happened: I ran into RPD, and instead of putting away my knife, I grabbed a coin, put the coin back, stashed the knife, and went on with my run.

Sounds like I'm clear there, and I'm glad I took all my mods off.

I’d you’re moving items around between your character and the box and you accidentally pull a coin or other NG+ item out, as long as you toss it back in before you leave the box menu it’s fine. If the box closes and you’re holding any NG+ item, your run would be considered NG+ now.

To your original post, as a new runner, just be sure to read the game and category rules and don’t hesitate to ask for clarifications if a rule seems confusing to you.

The editing, as long as you don’t have tons of extra content it’s fine to put splash screens or openers/closers for your channel on, but any editing of the run itself, from selecting difficulty to seeing the end of game results screen, could get you rejected. For content creators, an option I’ve seen in the past has been that you could post an unlisted video that’s just straight up footage of either raw video or the stream for verification and then post a version with edits publicly for your subscribers to keep the content in line with what your channel typically does. Some post a link to the unlisted full run in the description in case their subs want to see it.
