Hi
i've been trying to find strats for hard campaign speedruns (CW and GCW) and I'm currently stuck in BCC. Is there a consistent strategy that can beat this map as rebels? I'm really frustrated because it seems that even with perfect execution (I assume that the best strat is to try to take the two upper CP's) the map is still heavy dependent on RNG - aka the AI not losing any of you CP's during the process. Does anyone have tips to share? (I'm playing on PC)
Hi, Cloud City is a pain in the ass. The strat is to take all the bases and hope the enemy takes the carbon freezing chamber and funnels out to their death. It is still very AI dependent because they tend to take that back command post that leads to the back entrance to the CFC. Taking the courtyard is also very tricky so I am usually satisfied with having all the outside command posts and sniping the enemies in the courtyard and funneling out the CFC.
Good Luck, Boston
thanks for the reply and congrats on your amazing runs boston! When I beat this level a couple years back I used to think that BCC just as Geonosis and Kamino were RNG based levels, but I managed to come with strats that made the previous levels beatable, and that's why I'm obsessed with finding a way to beat this one reliably. Unfortunately it seems that this one will continue to be a pain in the ass. Currently I'm basing my strat in:
- Spawn as a wookie (bullet sponge) at the corridor CP and quickly reach the mid section of the corridor;
- Throw grenades as suppressive fire to prevent enemies from entering the corridor and wait for my allies to get to me;
- Use allies as bait and get somehow inside the next CP and capture it;
- Make my way towards the other enemy CP without dying and capture it;
- Babysit the entire map until reinforcements run out. OFC this is pretty difficult atm since the AI variance is pretty noticeable between tries... well, I'll keep trying to find a way nonetheless... thx
I’ve noticed a difference in difficulty between platforms; on the original xbox, the 360 and xbox one. PC is definitely harder. I wonder how the programming end of things works? Cause it seems pretty average on xbox and 360, but harder on the XBONE and PC.
Anyway! My best strategy specifically for BCC Rebels is as follows... Play as the pilot because you can self heal and reload. The other characters are too niche and don’t really play well if you’re going for speed. The soldier is fine but lacks the advantages of the rebel pilot. since BCC is a close quarters “urban warfare” sort of environment, the shotgun is extremely effective of the pilot. The sniper works if you’re a camper.
My advice in any level: Aim for the head always, or as much as possible. know where every recharge droid is at every CP. Exploit the A.I. as much as possible; the faster you get CPs the more they don’t know what to do.
For BCC specifically, I always go and charge for the bottom right flank CP. Then I go and push for the top right flank CP. Then I take the Carbon freezing chamber if necessary (my troops usually grab this first thing anyway). The open plaza is a dead man’s zone, and I let the opposition take that, so you can clean them out faster. I still push and take it as much as possible, hugging the edges of the map and flanking them. in a clockwise fashion. The walls at the Plaza CP are useful, and keeping in mind the ramps there leading up to the ledge in the center with the gun turret are great cause you “have the high ground” and can get headshots easier and they can’t get a shot at you cause of the angles.
Here's an example video of a pretty flawless speed run I did today so you can see what I mean:
Thx for the tips Drako. I actually ended up with a strat for the PC version... I didn't post before because I'm still on a testing phase. After reading a bit about RNG manip on another post, I observed something interesting: whenever I restarted the game, the seed for BCC was always the same:
- You are set to spawn at the top left CP;
- If you chose the bottom left CP (2nd level), you'll spawn at a southeast position of the CP;
- If you go directly to the bottom right CP (Empire), only three troopers will come your way - a stormtrooper, a sniper and a dark trooper- all the others will go to the other side. Headshot them all and your chances of quickly taking that CP become way more likely. If you do it right, you'll probably take the CP by the time your allies take the carbon freezing chamber. Then you gotta fight your way to the top right CP. This is a bit tricky, since you gotta do some cleanup first, but manageable. If you take the next CP before you lose the carbon freezing chamber, you're golden. Just focus on babysiting your CP's. If not, you'll have to take it back, but it's usually not that hard to do it... the problem is not losing anything else during the process. At least that's what is working on the PC version. I've never played the other ones, so I can't really state the differences. If someone else could test and confirm the manip it would be cool. I don't consider it to be essential for a win on this map, but speeding up the process of taking that first CP makes the timing much more easier and reliable. I still have to test it in a run fashion - right after beating Hoth.
I'd recommend watching some of BostonBrew's or BattlefrontRunner's easy and medium runs, just for reference on where the healing/ammo droid cheese spots are and how best to manage some of the capture zones. I'd also recommend rolling to the side wherever possible, since it's faster than jumping forward as in the above run.
Hard is extremely hard on PC. The AI for version 1.2 (PC only) was greatly improved, and it is noticeable in comparison (see my 5 hour hard run in which I get totally destroyed at the end). The bad part about this is that there isn't a good way to go back to the 1.0 version without the original 3-disk set. In addition to that, the soldier is a little underpowered on PC because no Aim Assist, and the pilot's ability to heal (along with the shotgun being nice) is good to have.
A lot of times you just have to go with the flow of the game and really try to not lose CPs. Manips for certain maps would be amazing however - it could change the scope of some of the longer runs.
Hey I tried playing the game on 1.0 and the game and AI are still harder. No worries 1.0 is not any easier I have the discs.
- Ground vehicle hitpoints were lowered.
- Droideka shield hitpoints were increased.
- Jet Trooper jet pack recharge time was increased.
- Jet Trooper EMP launcher reload time was increased.
- Dark Trooper jet pack recharge time was decreased.
- Dark Trooper Blast Cannon is more accurate.
- AI on Hard setting has been greatly improved.*
Honestly I think there are more differences that are not listed such as AAT shots not doing as much damage in both 1.0 and 1.2
TL;DR There is not much solace in 1.0 either ;(
if we're running an OG xbox disk on an Xbox One using backwards compat, I'd imagine I'm running 1.0
I'm a bit confused who in their right mind thought the droidekas needed MORE shield hp, but oh well. Sounds like 1.0 is generally easier then?
After a couple weeks of testing I can confirm that restarting the game leads always to a same seed in BCC (spawn point and AI troops movement) - this probably means that this is also true for other maps. There's always a Dark Trooper and a Sniper that will move towards your spawn, if you kill them and don't kill anyone else, there's a high chance that you can go directly to the enemy's CP without any problems or spawns. Overall, even with my personal strat, BCC is still RNG dependent, since your allies may end up losing the top-left CP (the entrance to the carbon freezing chamber), making things "uncomfortable". The amount of enemies that keep spawning between the bottom-right CP (after taking it) and the top-right one also varies between tries, which can lead to a lot of resistance while making your way to the next CP (and eventually make you lose too much time in the process, meaning a reset would be better by this point). As soon as I manage to find some time to set up a run, I'll try to submit a CW any% and a GCW any% on Hard so maybe I can show this "manip" in action.
