Subcategories not working for me?

Seems like I’ve tried everything to get the subcategories to work. I’ve tried all manner of weird combinations and nothing has worked out thus far.

Please see this img here:

As you can see whenever I add a new subcategory, the name of said subcategory does not show up. Instead I only get my difficulty values there. I am probably doing something very wrong here. All I want is for “Playstation” and “Saturn” to be in two separate subcategories under the main “Console” category. More or less like everyone else does it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You used the variables in a wrong way. For the edit variable form:

  • Name - the name of the variable itself. Should categorise all the values under it.
  • Level - determine if the variable is applicable to full game runs, IL runs, or both.
  • Category - you can choose a single full-game/level category where the variable will be active, or activate it on all categories. (If you want the variable on multiple specific categories but not all, you will have to duplicate the variable)
  • User defined - determine if runners can make new values for the variable when they submit runs. Not relevant for sub categories.
  • Sub category - whether the variable is used as sub category or not (should only be used when you want to split leaderboards by the values of this variable).

In your case, what you want:

  1. Make a subcategory variable named "Console", with values of PlayStation and Saturn.
  2. Make a subcategory variable named "Difficulty", with relevant values.

Put those variables under the relevant full-game category, or under all of them if you need to.

Thnx Oreo321 for clearing this up.

The solution was even more convoluted than thought imaginable. I would have never figured it out :D So ty.

Great! I don't see it as convoluted, but nevermind. Daravae wrote a guide for building/maintaining leaderboards here: https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/pgxyw

So you can always check that for more information or answers about this kind of stuff.
