Clarify that 'PvP' Games are not Allowed - Game Requests

Hey, so I spent a long time perfecting a run for a Game Request of Among Us, since I noticed that the site doesn't have the game. And 12 hours after I submitted my request, it was denied for 'We are not accepting primarily PvP based games.'

I understand that they don't accept these games, however, I feel instead of throwing that Information between other types of games they don't accept, it should have its own heading and paragraph. Not accepting these games basically removes half the games on the Internet from being added.

When I read that they don't accept PvP Games, I thought they were talking about games where you duel a player, since down to the definition, PvP means Player Vs Player, not Players Vs Players. So I'm not going to complain about my game request being rejected, I'm going to complain that it's not clear at all what they mean by 'PvP Based Games'.

My suggestion; as I said before give it it's own Paragraph and Header, since this Rule rules out many more games than any of the other Rules. Also, I would rename it to 'Multiplayer Games' since PvP is only 2 players, and very misleading. Sorry to rant about this, just don't want people wasting their time on something that will be denied immediately.

That must be frustrating. I hope you don't give up speedrunning the game just because it won't be tracked on this site, but that's up to you of course.

On another note, this kinda feedback often gets lost in the forum threads. I recommend posting your constructive suggestion in the pinned Feedback Thread here: https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/g79jt

Probably won't stop speedrunning, the problem is there really isn't any leaderboards for Among Us. I know that I can just make a Public Google Doc, but the advertising on this website is like no other, and will encourage new players to try speedrunning it. Also, I probably will post it there, thanks for the tip.

PvP is Player(s) vs Player(s) There's an implied plural.

"since PvP means player vs player, not players vs players"- um, isn't players vs players just a bigger version of player vs player? And besides, PvP is a known definition to most, namely, that you are competing against other humans and not simply AI (that said, usually just playing against AI in a PvP game is not enough to get around this and accepted). Not sure why there's any confusion here... unless you're going rules-lawyery in which case I point out the "Site Staff reserve the right to reject any game request even if it meets the minimum specified criteria." bit.

To elaborate further.

  1. PvP generally applies to any game where there's 2 or more players with conflicting goals.
  2. Banning multiplayer games wouldn't work because there's plenty of other games where players work together that can and are speedran (e.g. Super Mario 64 Online)

@Lieutenant_Boo yeah, some people consider PvP to have a Plural, however, in my head, it would just be easier to say Games with Players who are on Opposite Teams. And I do admit I was wrong; since there are Multiplayer games where multiple players are playing against an AI.

@Habreno Like I stated above to Lieutenant_Boo, yes some people consider PvP to be not just Player vs Player, but Players vs Players. But after checking Google and Urban Dictionary (I know it's not the most accurate website, but people write the definitions), and every definition states it as Player vs Player, not plural. But I really don't care about what they call it, I just care about it being one of the first things people see when they fill out a Game Request, and not being thrown in with a bunch of other less significant genres of games that aren't allowed, since it is why a lot of games get rejected.

I also stated that 'I'm not going to complain about my game request being rejected', and I agree that this Site is owned and maintained by the Staff, so I have no problem with them having the right to reject any request, it's their right.

Again, I just really want it to be apparent and obvious that games with separate teams which feature other people aren't allowed, so that other people like me don't assume that they are only talking about duels.

@Liv Honestly, I could keep on going about how I believe that instead of implying that it’s plural, why not just straight up say that it has plural meaning, but like I said before, the least thing I can care about is what they label it as. Here is a super simple summarization of what I am suggesting for the site: Make it very clear that Online Competitive Games that feature multiple parties will result in immediate rejection.

I just say this so it doesn’t waste the persons time who is filling out the Game Request, and the Moderator who has to approve/deny the Request.

We could go on for ages about the correct definition of PvP but I rather not, just wish that it’s stated clearly what type of games fall under ‘PvP Related Activities’

Yeah I'm sorry but you definitely just made a bad assumption on what PvP means. The term is generally pretty clear and well-defined, and hasn't been a source of confusion up until now (this is the first time I've ever seen anyone suggest it refers to duels specifically, in any context).

In any case, perhaps we can also throw the term 'competitive multiplayer' in there somewhere for a little extra clarity. We'll think this over.

@MushySR There is no point in pointing at PvP games that were added in the past, before the current rules. The request rules don't apply to games retroactively.

Some PvP-related games have been added to the site before the rules became more strict.

Yeah, didn't mean to start a whole argument about the PvP thing, probably just because I mainly play Minecraft and Hypixel, so when I think PvP, I automatically think duels. But I just really want to say, I really don't care at all what its called, and again the only reason I made the forum post, is to save other people's time, and just suggest for the server to make this rule have its own paragraph and header.
