Hello everybody! So for a while (and by a while I mean not actually a lot of time) I've been thinking about running this game in some sort of single segment scenario. So, I had the bright idea to race through every time trial (+ the DLC ones) in one run to see what's the best time I could get (in combined in-game time).
Running the game like this is super fun, really open to racing, and also is much more difficult than just ILs. It's really cool to see how you can improvise in certain scenarios to see how you can make the best out of a time loss.
I've been running this category for about two months now, and have brought my time (with DLC) from 35:57.81 to a 34:08.55, with sub-34 as my initial goal. I haven't highlighted the video of the 34:08 yet (because it was bad: lost 35 seconds in big eater and 17 in manhatten; a really godlike championship 1 saved the run), but here's a video of my 34:26.44 (which is also really bad):
I was thinking that maybe we could add this as a full game category?
I'd really like to see if anyone else has any thoughts on this or interest, I'm not 100% sure on adding it if only one person has or will do it but it looks legit
I like the idea though it might be hard to check if a run is actually single segmented or copied together
I think a way we could combat that is by making it so the runs are done in windowed mode with the desktop showing, or some variation of windowed mode
That's actually a good idea. I don't know how it would work on console though. I must say that i do like the category since it shows clear consistency instead of just randomly killing one of the shorts
I fully support this category and I would run it on the PS3. I've considered doing full runs of the whole game before...like every single level/mode...but this makes much more sense. :D

Guess there should be some conversation on how to time, how much time we can spend between levels, etc. etc. But I'm excited for this to be a real category.
Before I add this, what kind of ruleset do we want? I take it strictly IGT calculating the time from each time trial? I wouldn't mind the time in between levels since that's just menuing and it seems IGT will be the timing method (in the actual time trials), how should we tackle the 4 dlc courses Championship III, Highway II, Big Eater and Mountain? Should they be included in the run even though they're DLC or should it be split into two subcategories without DLC and with? Obviously replays won't be allowed, should the runs be done in windowed mode in case of splicing together runs? If so, what would be done with console runs, have them show their profile/interface during?
-I think the timing should sum of IGT of each time trial, but with a limit on how much time you can wait before starting the next time trial. 15 seconds? 30 seconds? Something short so people don't wait forever (or watch a replay to refresh their memory on the next TT :) ).
-Two subcategories is good. People shouldn't be forced to buy DLC if they don't want to.
-I don't play on Steam very much, so I'll defer to those who are more knowledgeable on the best way to capture that, but windowed mode sounds good to me. For PS3, it's easy to pull up the XMB while in-game, but I'm not sure the best way to do it. Maybe once right before the attempt and once right after? The XMB shows a clock, and I don't think any of the CE DX screens are static graphically, so that should be enough.
-For thoroughness, might be worth pointing out that none of the Darkness TTs are part of this.
Alright so then what should be done with the current runs for that category then? Since yours or teapartycthulu's don't show in windowed or show any desktop/console interface, if we set the rules as such with windowed mode for pc and showing interface for console I wouldn't want there to be exceptions, would you two be alright with those runs not being valid due to ruleset?
hey @xelnia quick question.. your runs that have yet to be verified, were they past runs on the boards here by chance or completely new to the boards?
Also, I'll be adding the board either tonight or tomorrow, remember if anyone sees this that you must show windowed in some fashion for pc runs and if it's a console run show your interface beforehand, and if you get a run done before I get the board(s since DLC and no DLC) up then just post it in here and I'll add it

They were all past runs that were on the leaderboard, I just went back and changed all the platforms from PS4 to PS3 since that option is now available.
I'd be fine with mine being invalidated, because it's garbage anyway. Next time I do attempts I'll fix it. Thanks for listening to this weirdo category idea. Considering how terrible my PB is (because like all other runs I have done, I did all the routing by myself: I've actually never seen any WR videos for this game) I'm not surprised you got a 33:48 pretty fast. Hopefully I'll catch up soon! (mainly because I want a PB where I don't lose 37 seconds in one level)
oh boy, so since speedrun.com doesn't allow setting specific subcategories for specific full game categories meaning all or one, I'm gonna have to make each full game category its own set of subs for this to work :P fun fun, for the time being if you submit submit it under the Championship II subcategory so at least that is kept all together, this is gonna take a while moving runs from the current system of one set of subcategories into separate ones for each short/score, just so you guys are aware I gotta recreate all the full game categories except for the time trials one so I can delete the one for all subcategory

oh by the way @xelnia watching your run now, just a side note it might be better to bring up your interface before the "start game" when you're on the course rather than before selecting time trial, and I don't think you'd have to show it after exiting the course either, I feel like that'd get a little too tedious for runners lol, just before start game would be fine
