Yes, OBS has a window capture for when using emulator. OBS is also the preferred streaming program amongst speedrunners

Just a quick interjection before you fine young gents continue on. I try not to get too heavily involved here since it's usually always settled before anyone has to talk but worth saying something anyways.

First off, when requesting moderator status (or in this case probably removal), it's best to link to the game page so as a site moderator can simply click the link, much easier to see what is going on (and more accurate, some games have close names such as the billion Kingdom hearts games lol).

For instance, you would add this link -> http://www.speedrun.com/r6_siege

Secondly, Wolexi is an "active" moderator for the game, at least according to the site he was last logged on today. So, ultimately he's the person to attempt to contact as the others haven't been on for months at a time. This is kind of the danger of having super mods, I myself had to request inactive moderators to be removed since they were also super mods, though I'm not sure about the "formal" way to request mod removal.

Thirdly, and this is a major point, but none of these 3 mods for the game have social media links. They each have twitch (which has a terrible PM system), a youtube for 2 of them I think (which also is terrible), and finally one has a steam. Nearly every one of those are not even reliable ways of contacting (unless Steam has a message system that goes around friend requests, i don't know never got too into it).

I would highly recommend doing your best to get into contact with Wolexi and request to be a moderator as he's the person to talk to instead of the site admins first and foremost. Once you (if he adds you) become a moderator, then I'd say you could request removal of modship status for inactive moderators.

In the off chance that he didn't get back to you, this would be the thread to go to. Not judging based on anything, but the first page of this thread gives guidelines on this subject.

I'm not a site mod but I figured i'd chime in before the thousandth racingmonster thread spree gets too heated.

Figured it'd be easier to have discussion here, what's your thoughts on this. As it stands, 100% is the only category where Expert Mode is a requirement in order to submit to the leaderboard.

So, a question I guess to ask in simple terms:

Do we create sub categories for Any%, Blue Line, Red Line, and 100% in such a way that each run has a Normal and Expert difficulty run?

Do we keep as is?

What do we do about Expert runs for Any%, Blue Line, and Red Line since there are no difficulty restrictions on these?

I can agree with fuel cells not being part, we never got anywhere with this because no one would agree with the definition that were people that ran / knew more about how to define properly

Those fall under the case-by-case scenario, mod discretion (not series mod, just moderators of the game) is usually reserved for this, I believe I accepted a run for SF1 a while ago that no longer has a video (marathon channel forgot to highlight stuff).

wątek: Star Fox

This is current as of November 24th, 2016

The Star Fox community has usually required full video proof for all games barring exceptional circumstances (like 3ds and command). However, we believe it may be worth lessening this absolute rule.

The following are the video proof requirements for each individual Star Fox game. Some have not changed, but they will be here for future discussions.

Star Fox (SNES)

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances

In addition, the following must be true (from Lowkee's thread on SF1 forums):

In order for us to verify your run, the video has to start at least before the startup "Nintendo Presents" and ends after the score screen after killing Andross. The best place to cut it off would be right before the staff roll (the boss montage). This is so that we have proof of the run in its entirety and your score will be set in stone (Venom Surface score is not shown until that screen and that is very important to determine an any% run or 100% run)

Additonally, for the Out Of This Dimension run, have the video end after the "The End" letters show up.

In addition, runs must be recorded using a capture card.

Star Fox 2

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances

Star Fox 64

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances.

For Star Fox 64, any times slower than the following are not subject to the above rule:

Blue Line - 27:00 Red Line - 35:00 Any% - 25:00 100% - 1:30:00

All of the above are for console times.

Star Fox Adventures

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances.

For Star Fox Adventures Any%, any times slower than 5:00:00 are not subject to the above rule.

Star Fox Assault

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances.

For Star Fox Assault Any% Bronze, any time slower than 47:00 are not subject to the above rule.

Star Fox Command

There are no current video proof requirements. In general, if you are submitting a world record we require a video, which is always a requirement for all games.

Star Fox 64 3D

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances.

Star Fox Zero

Video proof must be submitted in order to have a leaderboard spot barring case-by-case instances.

For Star Fox Zero Any%, any times slower than 30:00 IGT are not subject to this rule.

This thread will be stickied and be a basis for discussing video proof changes, as well as time cutoffs in the future.

Well the main drawback is the use of IRC, it's an outdated way of communication amongst communities now that discord is a thing.

Discord itself is a major upgrade since many discord servers have race channels. If there was some way to connect the Discord API or something to another site, it'd be really based. l

So basically when I say better platform, I just mean an update to conform with the new means of communication, SRL still gets the job done but there's nothing wrong with improving a system

IMO if you don't bother to use the site for a prolonged period of time, you really shouldn't be a mod. 2 weeks is one thing, but 8 months is another

Currently, all Star Fox games require video proof among submissions barring very few exceptions.

I feel it may be worth discussion to scale back this "absolute video proof" rule and instead instill a "Video Proof if time below XX:XX"

Many games that are competitive have some sort of rule (as in top placeholder times or sub XX:XX:XX times).

So, do you guys feel it could be beneficial to instill this slightly more lax video proof requirement? For reference, Super Mario Sunshine Any% requires video proof for runs below 1:25:00 - http://www.speedrun.com/sms

Pros:

Easier to be apart of the community Helps runners without capture equipment to still be apart of the leaderboard

Cons:

No proof run ever happened

My Opinion

I think it would be a good idea to remove the absolute video proof rule to make it a bit more runner friendly. I think the line should be drawn based on position (Like top 10/15). Really depends on the game, so more competitive games may have a different cutoff point

I found the video to be above average in terms of informative. Many of my runs are locally recorded in lossless quality, but when submitted offer 0 information. If given the choice I'd watch a slower run with detailed commentary over faster run with no commentary, I'd keep doing what you do as long as it's what you wanna do. This mod is pretty much getting behind a personal attack on how someone presents their speedrun, something that should not be tolerated

Model doesn't matter. There's attachments you can get (3rd party of course) that lets you play NES or Famicom games. As for the gameboy stuff, I believe there's something called a super retro advance adapter. I don't own one so I don't know if it plays GB / GBC games, but Nintendo made a SGB2, which plays game boy and gameboy color games on your snes.

In addition there's a device called an SD2SNES which plays every single US and JP SNES game (besides doom), in addition you can put rom hacks on this and play them as well. SNES is a powerhouse, you really gotta get one

Get an SNES. With recent technology and advancements, you can play Game boy, Game boy color, Game boy advance, NES / Famicom, and super famicom games on it.

I sorta agree, the bad thing I'm in ok standing with many runners of the mega man community that I feel are warranting this continuing suppression of things such as easy mode speedruns. I don't want to alienate myself any further so I hope someone actually gets stuff figured out so we can submit our runs here.

wątek: The Site

I don't really know what to do, I have my own community boards to keep organized so I couldn't take on the scale of the MMX community boards, but I'd probably request as a group, it's at least a step in the direction of us not repeating issues yeah. Sorry I can't try to help but as a runner who doesn't care about control over mega man leaderboards, I just want my runs on this site with my other pb's

@cirscowild good question, I requested X3 mod several times the past couple years and got denied, which is really a shame since I cared more than enough for that game to keep it up to date and accurate at all times
