The 405 is basically the same warning it just happens when you’re sending something to the server (like creating a forum post) rather than retrieving data for it. It looks like the site only did a custom error page on the retrieval of data, not sending it.

The same thing applies, just refresh (and agree to send your form content again) and it will eventually go through.

Also yes, these workarounds suck, but staff is aware that they have load issues, so I can only assume it’s on their roadmap to address in the future.

The pinned thread in this very forum is a good place to start.

As for Chrome OS, broadcasting software like OBS should be able to run as it’s multi-platform, but you’ll need to research the drivers and supported OSes for whatever capture card you go with. I’ve never used Chrome OS so I can’t speak for the compatibility of it or what cards it works best with.

I would recommend directing your questions to the Portal community as they will be able to help you much better than we will https://www.speedrun.com/portal_2

You will find the forums for the game there as well as link to their discord server.

@Asombroso That just means the site is very busy and burdened with heavy traffic. It happens periodically and shows up more often when large events are going on. Your best bet is just just refresh and the site will start to load again as it frees up resources.

I mean if it’s comfortable or more feasible for you don’t let me dissuade you from it! You’ll just have to rig up some kind of way to capture your gameplay with your phone or some other camera unless you plan on getting a 3DS capture board installed. People have gotten creative with stacks of legos or books or boxes to mount cameras on, so there’s plenty of options. You just need a video of a full run for the submission process per site rules when requesting a new game.

Given that the game isn’t on the site, you can technically create whatever rules you want if you get the game added. So you could decide what versions/platforms of a game are allowed.

Given that you’re basically using a 3DS XL as an emulator, I certainly wouldn’t recommend comparing that version of the game around any official ones and it should probably be considered an emulator run. You’d probably need to do extensive testing to determine whether or not playing the game that way provides any better performance over an actual console or traditional emulator.

In the end though, I really wouldn’t recommend running the game that way. Handheld consoles can be very difficult to capture, so if you’re looking to emulate the game I would just use a standard Master System emulator for your computer and forget about trying to do it on a handheld device (if for no other reason than to make recording runs easier on you).

There are no sire wide rules regarding emulation, it varies per game. The only way to get an answer is to go to the LB for the game(s) you want to run and check the rules. If the rules don’t say anything then you can either ask the mods or you can check the run submission form to see if the emulator checkbox is available.

There are no rules on what software you use to record your videos/stream your runs.

You can pick from any HDMI capture card out there, however some of them aren’t cheap (average for good quality can be around $100-$150 minimum). We can provide you with more recommendations if you provide us with a specific price point you’re able to afford.

Also, at minimum your PC will need a USB port to have the capture card connect to, so I would make sure you’re able to run something like OBS and record videos before investing in a capture card. OBS isn’t too resource intensive if you capture in low quality, so if your PC isn’t the strongest, it should still be able to handle that.

Assuming you have a way to load the save file onto a console, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be allowed (unless a community decides otherwise). Skyward Sword does this I believe by using a Hero Mode save that’s added to a homebrewed console.

If you’re asking if this is possible on an XBoxOne/PS4/anything modern, then I believe the answer is “probably not”. PS4 can maybe do this if someone purchases a tool that lets them access and modify their save files, but I’m still not sure even a tool like that would allow you to use a remotely downloaded file.

You need to provide a little more information about what exactly your issue is. No timer will be perfectly accurate unless it’s outfitted with an autosplitter, and even then it can drift ever so slightly if it runs for a very long time. If you’re manually controlling the start and stop points, then it’s subject to human error which again means it’ll never be “perfectly accurate”.

Are you asking how to frame count a run which is a method that uses the length of a run in frames in conjunction with the capture FPS to determine the time of the run?

If your computer isn’t strong enough to run OBS, then your only remaining option is to lower the quality of the video settings in OBS. Use a lower bitrate and record at something like 480p. If you STILL can use OBS at that point, then unfortunately, without buying a new laptop, you don’t have many more options and I wouldn’t recommend adding a timer to the video.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs4 years ago

I believe most video editing programs have the ability for you to add a timer to the video. I know for a fact Sony Vegas can do it.

Alternatively, you can open your video in something like VLC, open a timer program like LiveSplit, and use OBS to capture both sources. Then you can hot-key LiveSplit to start with the same key press as VLC. That way you can start your timer and your video at the same time and now you can record a video of both the recording playback and the timer at once.

And like Quivico said, I would use OBS going forward to record all of your runs if possible. If you’re not able to get the recordings to your PC in real time and you need to rely on downloading them to your PC after the fact (like if you stream from the PS4/XBoxOne Twitch app) then this video editing method is the easiest one I can recommend.

If it ends up muting your video, then yes, it has the potential to be rejected. Usually, mods will like audio to be present during a run as it helps them verify that the run isn’t spliced.

All of this is dependent on the game and the mods of that game though, so you need to contact them for a definitive answer.

I would really advise against taking any health advice from random people on a video game website. If you’re looking for information on that, I recommend talking to a health professional.

I don’t think that’s possible. The delta only shows up once you reach the time that your “best segment” would have finished and then it starts ticking until you finish the segment. Showing all the time would be just duplicating the data of what’s shown on the previous segment (and there’s no way to know your segment’s pace until you eclipse the best segment time). If you want the delta to show up all the time, just show more than one split at a time on the screen.

Showing just one split at a time doesn’t really provide the viewers or yourself with anything meaningful (since as you’ve discovered you can’t show your delta all the time for the current active split). Splits are mainly informational, so not showing a decent amount of that information is kinda against the main point of them. If you want to show such little splits on your stream, then I would either not use splits and just use a timer with no segments, or use splits but only capture the actual timer in your layout.

The resources for that game list an “In Game Timer” which I’m guessing is a form of autosplitter. I would check that out and direct further questions to the community for the game. They’ll definitely be able to help you better than we will.

Ethernet will always be better than wifi, no matter the internet plan. Ethernet will give you more consistent speeds because you’ll be hard wired in and you won’t deal with any kind of interference that wifi is susceptible to.
