And now there's Red Alert 3's 'Empire of the Rising Sun'. They have several ways they can be referred to as:

 1. Empire of the Rising Sun
 2. Empire
 3. Imperial
 4. Rising Sun
 5. Japan(ese)

I opted for Imperial for now, since that's what the wikia uses to group the missions. They can be changed back in a heartbeat.

I was going to eventually post exactly what @tehjman1993 said. Inconsistency in a series becomes a problem immediately; we shouldn't need to argue with the person who requested the game to make it orderly. Requests for a game in a series should pass-through the series mods first before handing them sole power. werster has brought up series unity before. I do get not wanting control of a series in the hands of few users, who could make disagreeable decisions eventually needing the site mods to intervene, but unity is also important.
And one more thing, if you're a mod in a series, all games of the series will be listed in your profile as opposed to just the series name. Any reason/fix?
It's just listing what you're a moderator of. Series and game moderation are technically separate; you could be moderator of all the games in a series but not the series itself, and vice versa.

Small bug, though it's a bit irregular.

If a run is saved with milliseconds > the game no longer displays milliseconds > the run is edited and saved -- the milliseconds are removed from the time.

For most games this isn't a problem, but I keep track of the milliseconds for runs and then disable them to keep the leaderboard looking better. It still keeps the time, but if the run is edited by anyone else without re-enabling them, the milliseconds get purged. Ideally it'd be nice to have the milliseconds box always visible to moderators, regardless of settings.

You might as well take a free world record. Kappa b

Requesting deletion of Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. It's been here since before 2015 and hasn't had a single run nor any interest from anyone.

That, and the game simply doesn't exist. DansGame

There are a few ways I can remember:

 1. Run in -win mode. I tried this and became frustrated with the cursor always leaving the window, so I didn't bother with this. It also requires 16-bit mode...
 2. DxWnd can supposedly let old games run in windowed mode, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to work.
 3. VMware to run a separate instance of windows inside windows. It's what I use, but it's fairly convoluted for anyone not tech-savvy. Has some side benefits like save states, albeit slow to use.

I wouldn't be too worried about showing a timer on the screen; if you use a stable encoder I can get the times from the video timestamps. As far as I know OBS uses a really good encoder, so use that to record with. You might be able to use the OBS plugin for LiveSplit to have it display on screen, though you might not be able to see it yourself.

Edit: I plan on looking into ways to make it easier to record the older games.

United StatesROMaster28 years ago

I've mentioned this a couple times in various spots; I'm doing an overhaul of the timing methods of the series by retiming all the videos I can find. For the most part, the times that current exist will still be there, but there'll be more recorded down for each run for completion sake.

• Real time - Generally useful, but since all the games are on PC (baring console ports) there's still load times that can vary between runners for Tiberian Sun and onward. The older games (TD and RA1) have literally no load times with modern PCs. • In-game time - Also generally useful, except for games who track only minutes (TD, RA1, Renegade) or absent (Generals, RA3¤). It becomes inaccurate when save & load is used. • Time without loads - This can be the best measure for timing, though it does require manual work. For all the RTS games it starts when the player gains control of the battlefield to when "Mission Complete" is shown on screen. Reloads and pauses are not subtracted from the time, so it's acting as real time for when the player is in control. In-game cutscenes are not subtracted since they can be theoretically removed.

Notes on the games:

• The in-game timer for Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert 1 appear to track based on number of frames rendered. On speed 6 for RA1, it records at about 4x the speed of real time, so it's accurate to 15 seconds. It's not super helpful, so real time is more reliable. Still, showing the screen at the end of the mission helps with credibility. • Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, and Tiberium Wars provide in-game time accurate to the second after the mission, so they're useful for both individual mission and campaign runs. They can still be skewed with save & load or load times. • Generals doesn't have any kind of in-game timer, so real time is required. • Red Alert 3 has in-game time, but it's not easily available for campaign runs. It's a shame since it means either campaign runs can't use their times for the individual mission leaderboards or runners have to waste real time to check each mission's in-game time.

Unless there's some kind of inconsistency found, I suggest using time without loads as the dominate time for the series as a whole. Real time and in-game time are still recorded, though, for people who prefer those timers. The only problem is RA2's Soviet Leaderboard; using this method would put my run above Volound's, despite how his run is clearly better than mine. The cutscene he doesn't skip in the last mission punishes him. Should skippable cutscenes be excluded from time without loads? I'm not inclined to say yes, but I don't want my run above his either.
Low-priority request: Allowing for columns to be hidden by default in leaderboard settings, to look less cluttered in some situations. An example could be Metroid Prime which uses in-game time as their main measure, but don't require real time to be recorded. A game that has only one platform and region could hide the platform column. The only required columns would are rank, player, primary time, and date.

This could be used for games that have separate timing methods for categories or full-game/levels.
Now that I'm overhauling a series' timing methods, I would actually really like this a lot. That, and being able to toggle millisecond visibility so I can still include milliseconds without enabling it for a short time then disable it so it looks better.

Found a runner with a bunch of individual level runs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFF9A01B16B372F25

With the new tag system, the game can fall under both Age of Empire and Star Wars, if you chose it to be.

Edit: Game is up now.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Portal 2 Super Mario Bros. 3

United StatesROMaster28 years ago

That'd be a bit of a stretch. I do want to separate difficulties as categories, but there's some problems that come with it that I've mentioned before. The game doesn't provide anything more than difficulties for more things to do. The tutorial missions are pretty ignorable and wouldn't fit a 100% definition well.

United StatesROMaster28 years ago

The Allied campaign is available as a choice from the selection, and formally starts the actual campaign there, so it's best to start with that. Starting with the tutorial would be annoying for both the runner and the viewers.

Not for consoles, no, not automatically. At least not for some time until there's progress on video/audio reading.

Just because you're a mod of a game/series doesn't give you a free pass on your runs. If that were the case, I could claim WR on every Command & Conquer game. I'm mod, I've shown runs before, so why would you question me?

Ten years ago, lack of video proof wasn't as frowned upon because of how difficult it was to capture a recording. Now it's cheap and easy, the excuse isn't there anymore.

I like how they both make no effort to even try to post proof. I also like how the mods somehow beat Racingmonster's time the next day without anything to show for it. cmonBruh

At least now racingmonster has most of the 1st place records. Gotta have the most world records Kappa

Sorting All Games by Date Added would be nice to see what games have been recently added and what's worth following. I currently use the API to do it.

United StatesROMaster28 years ago

I was trying to check Harmak's runs for in-game time on each level, but you can't see the time unless you hover over the level again to see the record.

I'd like to make a suggestion: after a run, go back over each level for the in-game time for each so the total time can be written down. It wouldn't be mandatory since real time should probably be used over in-game time, but recommended. It would let you write down IL times, too.

EarthBound - Any% Glitchless Gimmick! - any% Glitchless Minecraft - Any% Set Seed Glitchless Mirror's Edge - Glitchless Octodad: Dadliest Catch - Glitchless Outlast - Glitchless Paper Mario - Glitchless Pokémon Crystal - Any% Glitchless Pokémon Emerald - Any% Glitchless Pokémon Gold/Silver - Any% Glitchless Pokémon Red/Blue - Any% Glitchless Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition - Any% Glitchless Portal - Glitchless Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - Any% Glitchless The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Any% (Glitchless) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Glitchless Undertale - Neutral Ending {Glitchless}

There's plenty of games that use the name. And if there's a new glitch found, that can be discussed. It's not hard to change a name.

As far as "No Major Glitches" or "No X Glitch" being better, I generally agree, but "No Major Glitches" doesn't fit right and is best applicable when there's already at least two other categories, and "No Build Anywhere Glitch" is unnecessarily long.

Beyond that, I don't see arguing this will become very productive. I'll bring up the point later.
