Personally I think the IGT should be used as its an exact and you don't have to worry about timing yourself. What do you think will be used?
I personally don't like the idea. It's nice for short, no side-quest games. But other than Any% and 100%, if any category emerges, like All Souvenirs or All Songs, then it wouldn't work. That's why most games of this caliber usually take RTA 3rd party software instead.
I'm in favor of IGT for any% and 100% - the game has a built in timer so using it seems the most consistent option for those two at least
The best option would be RTA. Going off what others have said in the Discord, the IGT messes up if you die or reload checkpoint
The default timer does not count deaths, pauses, or reloaded checkpoints in its final count. personally, I think thats enough to disqualify it, you can die 150 times but still get a decent time using it.
I did not know that it doesnt count deaths. i thought it only took out pauses and cut scenes and loading screens. so yea RTA is probably better just for that reason unless they change the deaths and reloads. But as of now in the rules it does say that you need to show the IGT at the end so maybe they will have two separate things for people doing IGT and RTA. idk tho im brand new here so ill just wait and see.
IGT is fine if you specify runs can't die or reload - which would be the goal as the times are refined down. The limitation of IGT listed above will be a legacy problem after a few months of practice when the top times don't have deaths or reloads.
We should try to future proof the leader board rather than catering to where the community is right now barely a week out of launch.
Compromise Any% IGT but death and reloads invalidate a run; consider it a hardcore run and timing is the IGT at the menu Any% RTA (alternative name "Single Session") includes deaths, reloads, ect and is timed from power start game to loosing control at the end
Nah, I still think RTA is the way to go. I feel it's a bit unreasonable to expect people not to die in a run, or reload checkpoint. Either someone makes a mistake, or the game messes up, and people can't help that
The run will eventually reach that stage (no deaths/reloads for top times) so when we get there, i might bring it up again - the consensus in the discord right now seems to be RTA so think we'll end up with that. Just means that there's really no point in showing the IGT at the end of a run.
For top times, sure. Minimal deaths and reloads are nearly expected for those - however a top player can still mess up. But the game will always have new players, of which will not be as skillful at certain parts of levels like the Sentinels in Midtown. As for the IGT showing, it seems that isn't to list runs under IGT but to make a solid confirmation that the run was finished/completed
Not to mention that 100% runs now require you to reload checkpoints due to finding out that you can give music sheets and get the Music badge much quicker if you give a sheet, and immediately reload checkpoint
Loadless RTA is the best thing for PC runs. Protects the best against pay-to-win. I'd personally like to see it go this way.
Console being RTA seems like the only reasonable solution here given the IGT situation.
Hey all!
There have been several recent changes to the rulesets. I encourage everyone to review the rules in full, but the main changes are listed below:
IL's now end at the first checkpoint of a future chapter. Please review individual chapter rules for which checkpoints are used.
