So today I spent a full half hour trying to get the spearow manip but just could not get it. I watched the video ten times over, and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, instead of getting the encounter I just keep going forward in the grass. Any tips?

The A press during the palette change is very important when it comes to timing, you could be missing the window. I advise you aim for between the letters E and B. And ensure you're holding the direction and A until the copyright screen pops up.

Ohhhh, right. I was actually confused about that and I thought that it was a bit of a weird timing thing. Thanks!

So did that work for you? Because I'm trying all that and I still can't seem to get it to work. Do I have to restart my game and try to get it on my first try or something? Because I sort of run into pokemon and go back into the tile and save, and idk if that's corrupting it or not.

I've been at this for two hours and I had no idea the stuff done on the start screen was important at all. It'd really help if either the video linked in the document or the document itself would explain this.

@REID yeah, it worked for me. If you do the thing Eb0nyzero said, and as long as your A Presses are accurate, yeah, it should work.

@Crusixblade so the stuff you do on the start screen manipulates your trainer ID, which is really important for the arbitrary code execution later on. You will need to reset the run and do the start screen stuff again.

I meant on the spearow manip, but yeah. I assume now it's just button pressing wrong.

Ohhh right. Yeah, those inputs are buffering the time taken before the encounter. Shenanagans explains it really well in this video: . I'm really not good at explaining things like this in such a small space.

Oh, that really helps. Thanks.

Yeah I eventually got it down, my biggest problem was that I didn't know I had to press A on certain tiles.
