TAS cycle consistient?

ive been trying to do a 1-t sub 40 IL run, and incorperate TAS cycle into my any%, but i only made the trick once, and choked immediately on the jump after. does anyone have any tips, visual cues, mental rehearsalos, ect that can make this trick more consistient? or do you just have to white knuckle the many consecutive frame perfect inputs?

I have a few tips, but it's really hard to get down and needs lots of practice. I wouldn't recommend for you to try doing this in any% runs.

It's easiest to do with small mario, like in the videos I posted in the other thread. So practice it like that.

For the first three jumps, you just have to optimize them really well. They're not frame perfect, but you don't have too many frames to spare. What I mean by optimize them is to jump as soon as you can in the level, then make the jump short enough so you just make it to the next platform without wasting too much time by jumping too high, then jump again as soon as you can, etc.

The game won't let you do a walljump if you're too close to a floor, so the third jump in the level needs to be as high as you can before quickly walljumping.

I'd practice that first part for now, and I can give more tips for the rest of it after if you want.

thanks for the tips man, really appreciate it

OH FUCC BOIS I MADE TAS CYCLE!!! i choked right after it. my consistiency has gone from 1/250 to 1/25, so thanks

i think so, but compared to the timesave of fast 8-2, it is miniscule, likely 2 - 4 seconds, and thats stretching it, because the timesave is almost exactly 10 secs, added with the 3 second timesave on 1-2 bc no blue shell pickup, but you lose a ton of time picking it up from the toad house. even though its at the beginning of the run and it doesnt require any rng, its so hard to execute that i think that a well optimized any% with fast 8-2 would be completed before anybody is even considering TAS cycle. also has anybody created a human theory any% tas? that would be extremely interesting to watch.

It's not faster to get the shell from the toad house and do TAS cycle. The reason I went for TAS cycle in my any% runs was just to minimize the timeloss from not getting good RNG. The reason I didn't go for it in runs with good 1-2 RNG was because doing TAS cycle as shell mario is harder and has a risk of dying and wasting a run with good RNG.

For anyone reading this forum post in the future, I made a guide for TAS cycle with blue shell so check that out if you’re interested

this forum post is super outdated Me, AndreMH and MyLittleWalrus do TAS cycle in runs

Slovenia

I think TAS cycle shoule be done by anyone sub 25, because it saves quite some time and if you fail it you don't lose anything, because you get to the castle 95-100% of the time...

enijah, its really a feel thing. some people like me, andre, and walrus have a natural knack for the trick while some others just cant do it reliably enough, like greg, ILSMB, and v1be. its personal preference really

I dunno, v1be seems to be getting the hang of it from what I’ve seen

But that's only because you did it so many times.

Thank you for the guide AndreMH. I can probably grind that out even if my time isn't that good

Japan

@PainPita good luck! TAS cycle is nothing but grind. I strongly suggest that you practice other "difficult" strats in the any% route(cycle skip in 8-T, optimal 8-6, 70x in 8-BC etc.) before going for this, but I guess it won’t hurt since it’s very early in the run. I think that myself and a few others could help you out if you have any questions with the execution

Québec

I would need to look forward to those strats too. I indeed considered doing TAS cycle because it was early in the run. Getting through the the 3 jumps is getting better (30-40% success rate) but the second part is still very bad since I haven't gotten it once. Do you consider the second part harder?

Japan

By second part, do you mean the one I referred to in the guide? Waaaaaaay harder, yes. The reason for this is having to deal with multiple pixel stops(the last one being completely luck dependent) as well as quick turnaround, making optimal jumps and trying to maintain horizontal momentum to slip through the gaps. I can probably do the first part blindfolded, but I’m not as consistent on the second part

Québec

This is what I was referring to exactly. I realized the multiple pixel stops, but didn't know it was random. I thought it only happen on the really side of the block and on other moving platform like in 8-4. Thanks for the info.

The only pixel stop that you don't really have control over is the final one on the vertically-moving platform where you morph into the shell (like in 8-4 as you said). Andre, Wah, and I agree that the second part is harder than the first part. Study Andre's written guide and our videos very carefully to see exactly what we do and how tight we make our movement. You really do have to make your movement as tight as possible; probably only a handful of frames away from optimal movement or else you get squished. If you're still having trouble with the second section, I can try to go into additional detail to help.

Changes To Video Requirements And Emulator Loading Times

Hi everyone, please read below for information regarding some important changes to video proof and emulator timing.

As of September 12th 2022, runs for all categories will require video proof to be verified on the leaderboard. Previously video proof was only required for Any% runs, however we are
