In its current state, the "Any%" category is quite literally All Stages but with one fewer stage -- which in and of itself would not be a problem. However:
-
Skipping the final stage doesn't require any kind of skillful trick. It's just a double-click on the "Continue" button as opposed to a single click.
-
The preceding stages are played identically in both categories, which is enforced by the fact that the events of each level are entirely self-contained.
I'm aware that many speedrun categories are arbitrary, but enforcing a distinction between all but the final stage of All Stages and what we have for some reason deemed "Any%" seems particularly (and egregiously) so.
I see two possibilities here:
A. The Any% category is removed entirely
B. The first X stages (X being 4 for Rilo and Almond, 6 for Xoda) of All Stages runs are eligible as submissions for Any%
Now, if I were only concerned with making sense, I would absolutely choose option A, because the category is again, pointless. However, I favor option B if only because it does not involve deleting extant runs -- as there is no functional difference between completing all but the final stage of an All Stages run and completing an Any% run aside from a single extra click. It does not take more time, additional practice of tech, etc. etc.
If I do not receive any kind of reply to this post in the next two weeks (more specifically by June 14) expressing a sensible reason not to do so, I will move ahead with this change. Hopefully, I do not represent the game's entire community at that point because the current state makes discussion very difficult.
It seems a better solution is necessary. Perhaps changing the name to "Xoda/Rilo/Almond (Credits Warp)" would make more sense, seeing as "Any%" often ends up assumed to be the most populated category. The current Any% leaderboards have fewer runs than the all stage categories. I feel this is a less drastic revision that mostly serves the same purpose.
