Lakitu Cup & Ring Attack Ace Strats for Waluigi
Updated 6 years ago by MetalYoshi

There are two possible hole locations for each of the four Par 3s on Lakitu Valley for the first Tournament. The Hole 3 strats will also apply for the second Star in Ring Attack - "No Easy Entrance" - especially since there is no Rain on any hole in Ring Attack. These are with un-Star Waluigi. He is becoming a new favorite choice for speedrunning due to his ultrafast swing animations, good trajectory, and balanced stats (especially high Impact).

Unless otherwise noted, assume full power, perfect accuracy, and no Spin with the default club, so as to save space.

Definitions: Sweet Spot - the gray bar from which the power bar begins to move from right to left and back again. However your shot deviates from the Simulation Line (assuming no RNG) depends on how precise your timing is on your second input after starting your shot (Manual) or with RNG picking within the blue bar above the Sweet Spot (Auto). Hook - A lower, leftward (right for lefties) deviation as a result of your Sweet Spot timing being late (to the right). This may be intentionally used to correct a shot if the situation warrants it, but can often prove dangerous. Slice - A higher, rightward (left for lefties) deviation as a result of your Sweet Spot timing being early (to the left). This may be intentionally used to correct a shot if the situation warrants it, but can often prove dangerous. Impact Point - Where the ball is struck by the club-face. Although centered by default, this can be moved to affect the trajectory and roll of your shots. You can use the Control Pad to scout these changes, but they are only finalized by hovering the Control Stick over your new marker during the swing. Holding the Control Stick up will result in lower shots (When I say low shot, this implies a top-ball Impact Point); down for higher shots (when I say high shot, this implies a bottom-ball Impact); leftward for Fades; rightward for Draws. Draw - A shot that curves from right to left, which can be natural as the result of a character's technique (e.g. Waluigi, Daisy, Bowser, etc.), or artificial (as a result of moving the Impact Point to the right-half of the ball). Draws and Fades are extremely useful for curving shots, controlling distance, ball bounce/roll direction, and more. Fade - A shot that curves from left to right; which can be natural as the result of a character's technique (e.g. Luigi, Birdo, Wario, etc.), or artificial (as a result of moving the Impact Point to the left-half of the ball). Draws and Fades are extremely useful for curving shots, controlling distance, ball bounce/roll direction, and more. 3/4 shot (or 1/2 shot) - A lower, shorter shot using only partial power for the chosen club. Since the meter is split in four with convenient reference marks, I try to use them for strats where higher shots fail.

HOLE 3

139y Clear (Front-Left) - Toggle the power down twice to 126y with a low draw, a one-frame hook and Super Topspin. Thanks to Bluekandy for this other, more consistent option!

Alternative: See the Twitch highlight VOD. One mark short of full power, then adjust the Impact Point so it is above and tangent to the center circle. If you can't quite replicate that Impact Point, the ball should still end up very close.

139y Rain (Front-Left) - Go one mark short of full power and play a Draw, a three-frame hook, and add Super Topspin. Thanks ZirconEagle16 for this simpler strat!

144y Clear (Center) - Club up to the 1w while at the same time toggling down to the 107y mark (one past the half point), add the Draw, a one-frame hook and add Super Topspin. This is simpler than it looks. This works for 0% and +1% RNG.

Alternate Strat: Toggle down three marks to 134y, play a low shot with a one frame slice and add Super Backspin. If you get +1% RNG, go with a two-frame slice instead. Thanks ZirconEagle16 for this alternative that is conveniently similar to the Rain strat and uses the same default club, and thanks Bluekandy for the +1% RNG backup strat.

144y Rain (Center) - Play a one-frame slice and add Super Backspin. Strangely, this is identical to Mario's strat (except Mario is given the 6I by default, so he has to club up).

HOLE 7

123y Clear (Center) - Tick down to 124y power (three marks short) and play a low shot. Thanks MichaelT00 for accidentally finding this simple strat!

Should you happen to only go one mark short and get +1% RNG, let it go for a big, delicious dunk! Accidentally discovered by ffrpro21:

ALTERNATE: Club up to the 5I, tick down to 134y power (three marks short), and use Super Backspin. This will work for 0% and -1% RNG. Thanks ZirconEagle16 for this excellent strat!

123y Rain (Center) - Two-frame hook is all it takes! This even works for both 0% and -1% RNG.

144y Clear (Back) - Club down to the 6I, select Power, and play a low shot with Topspin.

144y Rain (Back) - Club up to the 3I and play a Draw with a two-frame slice and Super Backspin. You can probably get away with a minor mistake, but if you lose too much power, you need Topspin to recover.

HOLE 12

157y Clear (Front-Right) - Club up to the 1w and play a 3/4 low shot with a one-frame hook and Topspin. This happens to work for both 0% and -1% RNG. Thanks to MichaelT00 and Bluekandy for teasing this wonderful strategy out of its hole.

ALTERNATE: Club up to the 3w and play a 3/4 high shot with Topspin. If you get +1% RNG, mishit the Sweet Spot one mark early. Thanks Bluekandy for the improv RNG strat! Note: I've labelled this as an alternate because while it was consistent for me in Training, it has proved inconsistent in Lakitu Cup, which is unfortunate. Still a good shot...

157y Rain (Front-Right) - Play a low shot with a three-frame hook and use Topspin.

166y Clear (Rear Center) - Club up to the 4w, toggle the power down to 164y and play a high shot as normal. If you overshoot, some Backspin gets you close. Thanks Bluekandy for this excellent strat!

ALTERNATIVE: Nudge your aim very slightly left and shoot with one mark short of full power and a one-frame slice. Thanks ZirconEagle16 for this strat!

166y Rain (Rear Center) - Nudge your aim very slightly right, club down to the 4I, select Power, and play a full shot with Super Backspin.

HOLE 16

113y Clear (Center) - Club up to the 1w, while at the same time toggling down to the 97y mark and play as normal. Any overhit needs (Super) Backspin, while any underhit needs Topspin (maybe Super). Impact Point changes may work, too. Alternative: Tick down to the 100y mark, play a low shot with a one-frame slice and add Super Topspin.

113y Rain (Center) - Shoot a low shot one mark short of full power with a one-frame slice.

112y Clear (Right) - Hit a low shot with a two-frame slice. Thanks ZirconEagle16 for this strat!

112y Rain (Right) - Club up to the 6I, select Power, and hit a low shot one unit past the 3/4 mark (110y on the meter). It may be beneficial to use Backspin for an overhit or Topspin for an underhit since it is better to be past the cup most of the time.
