So actually I played already a few b1.5 speedruns but i'm stuck at last achievement, the cake achievement

so my question is how can i get eggs in this version will the chicken just drop a egg after some time or what?

To get Egg in Beta 1.5-1.7 you must:

• Stay near a new spawned chicken. (Passive mobs will despawn if you move too far, this also include chickens and any other mobs)
• You'll have to wait a random amount of (in-game) time, minimum 5 minutes and maximum 10 minutes, for the egg to drop.
