I used trapped merchants (preventing a merchant from despawning by removing the marketplace) and reharvesting of crops (moving the crop before harvesting and reloading the save file).

RNG was probably average. I got cabbage and peachot early, got a decent number of rare items, and Willow wasn't stubborn about dating. But the wedding ring took several weeks to appear and I didn't get any helpful events early in the run.
