Hey there,
I'm a little bit confused... i watched the speedurns on the filtered section NMG - MS - Region: PAL / Europe, but there are runs, that don't belong there, i think.
The runs there look like they are in 60fps, but PAL is restricted to 50, isn't it? Place 3 is a japanese version, thats definitly not PAL.
Or am i wrong?
You're right, those runs probably have been submitted with a false region-selection and mods didn't change/correct it. Since this is a mixed-region leaderboard, it doesn't really matter.
Well, I care, because I have no way of playing my 1.0 cartridge on an ntsc version (unless I would buy a japanese console). Secondly, I find the category pal50hz quite interesting. It would be a shame if the moderators don't see any need for change, because there are many European runners who are bothered. I hope something will be done soon. greetings Eddy
Normally i would say "yeah, its ok", but whats the matter of a filter then? ;)
@LuckwurstJoe the filter is a speedrun.com-wide feature, which probably most people don't even know or use.
@Link00Zelda it is common among many speedrun-communities (at least for SNES/Retro-Games) to use the "fastest" version/release of a game and speedrun that version. The "fastest" version which is run of course may change, e.g. if there are glitches that can only be exploited in a specific release/version of a game.
However some very few leaderboards have seperate leaderboards for PAL-releases of game. It doesn't make sense to mix them with NTSC-releases, since most PAL-releases have been adapted poorly and simply run about 17% slower than their NTSC-neighbors.
If you consider running this game seriously: get a Super Famicom and Cartridge+proper equipment. It really isn't that expensive. Or just run on emulator, if you're on a budget.
Inquiries about making a separate category for PAL-releases should be directed to the mod-team. However, maybe they can just fix the runs that are submitted+verified with the wrong release-version and that should suit your inquiry already.
I'll take a look at the mislabelled runs and will bring this up to the rest of the mods.
Thank you very much. I'm afraid that there won't be many runs left... all SNES Classic-Runs are NTSC, also the one on the Switch.
Aaaand all the others… damn. Doesn‘t anyone of these people know the difference between PAL and NTSC?
