being a high school student without a job i cant get the money for a good or decent capture device i want to run 100% so as of late ive given splits i take by looking at the stopwatch and writing down my times on paper after a boss, i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to send pictures with my submissions its the most i can do especially to prove ive either beaten or gotten 100% for a run as proof im actually speedrunning cause ive seen some leaderboards only allow video because of trust issues and i want you guys to know im actually running i just cant record video for actual hardware.
100% only requires video with a 59:xx or lower (check rules). You can just post an imgur link in the comment on your submission if you want to provide an image.
If you have a camera, and want to go for 59:xx or lower, is it possible you could point it at the screen and record video? You don't need a capture device, a screen recording would be fine. You also don't need a good or decent capture device. A cheap, low quality capture card works too. Basically any quality video is fine as long as we can see all of your gameplay (no missing parts, massive frame drops, etc).
Thank you, I have a digital camera I can use but it will die after an hour so I can't record a full run that is if I record, and I don't plan on getting sub one hour on my first run ;p
Another option to consider that I didn't think of when I made my post is that you could do your runs on an emulator. That way you don't need any capture device, just software to record your screen like OBS.
If you're playing on a Wii, you can record footage with an old dvd player and re-writable dvds by pluging the av cables into the input and pluging a second set of AV cables from the output to the TV. Price shouldn't be too much of a problem since dvd players are dirt cheap and I once saw a five pack of 120 min. rewritable dvds for $5 new.
if you can't afford a capture device right now, then you could download live splits and when your done with a run, if you pb, take a screenshot of your splits for validation
