Wish we could see recent runs still on the games leaderboard, I liked it a lot. I could be missing it, but I don't see it anywhere

The current translations are machine-generated, and their quality can best be described as "usable".

Wasn't there like, a whole ass system of doing crowdsourced translations that you guys just...did not use?

Millisecond precision display seems broken. Also getting quite a few server errors when going into settings and saving.

Yeah performance coming out of the launch of the new site is a little rough rn, developers are working on it as we speak

Really need https://www.speedrun.com/runsawaitingverification to come back

The site crashes all the time, so can't really say anything about features yet.

Notifications don't seem to be getting automatically marked as read after checking them right now. Is that related to the performance issues, or will we have to manually mark them as read going forward?

I appreciate all the work your team has done, it must've taken a ton of time! And that's why it pains me to say this:

Personally I prefer the previous version of the website BY A MILE. Examples why:

  • "Games you moderate" is now private and not public and doesn't show a concise list with icons or show which SERIES we are moderator for
  • The game's cover, unless it's a very specific size, is now cropped and broken. E.g. none of the Arcade game cover fit.
  • Our personal badges are gone, replaced by our profile pictures (avatar)
  • Transparency of our badges and avatars is gone.
  • Can't see when a moderator has last been online any longer

In general, this new site version is extremely cluttered, missing important features we had before and rough to navigate.

1 positive though, the 1 thing I do personally appreciate and would keep is the new "History" feature.

PLEASE revert everything else back to the way it was before. I think that's what most people want.

Remember the saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

ngl bro i was NOT expecting this AT ALL and well, i'm gonna be brutally honest here. i'm not a fan of this AT ALL. the profiles page looks bad, forum looks like shit and almost everything just looks bad.

if you're gonna make the change, PLEASE atleast ask the community if we want this or not but knowing that i'm talking to elo here, it's like i'm talking to a brick wall. there is really no point here.

Personally I'm not a fan of how run pages are laid out, it looks super messy to me and just cluttered.

Plus trying to go to my own profile page took over 30 seconds to load, whereas before it took less than 5 seconds.

A couple issues on the verifier/mod side.

I was hoping with the change to variables that you could select which categories the variables applied to instead of only having the option to apply them to all categories or to a singular category. I think having a checkbox to select which categories a variable applies to would be extremely helpful.

Verifiers no longer have the ability to edit runs, which is a major issue as like 80% of runs have something incorrectly input. So we'll have to make all verifiers mods atm. It was a helpful distinction but now a verifier is pretty much useless.

When editing rules for "values" and presumably other area, its physically impossible to scroll the screen down to edit rules below a fixed point without using ctlr minus. As you can see I have no scroll bar to view anything below this point. And no the scroll from HTML mode does not fix this.

Echoing this point from above:

"The game's cover, unless it's a very specific size, is now cropped and broken. E.g. none of the Arcade game cover fit."

While I get the visual consistency angle, it needs to be recognised that not every game has a "sensible" box art that fits into the provided proportions, but also without giving people the chance to say if the art should crop/resize/fit max dimension but retain aspect ration has caused a bit of a mess in some places.

Specifically for the Final Fantasy Series, where for multi-release applicability and ease of reference we've generally tried to keep to game logos over box art, now looks like a mess.

I do appreciate the counter arguments/points to this will probably be either "edit the logos to fit the required aspect ratio even though they get much smaller" or "you should be using box art so just pick one and deal with it" but neither of these are particularly great options, and I would appreciate it if some alternative solution could at least be considered/discussed slightly.

So thoughts on the new site look: Whilst it loads better in some places, most of what I know has been thrown out the window and there's a lot of things either not working or have gone missing. Like in a game series as moderator, how do you add a new game to the series yourself? There's no option for that anymore or am I just being dumb, I'm gonna echo most of what people have already said: New site update is terrible, please either test it properly with others before rolling it out or just don't try and fix something that isn't broken to begin with.

MasterSystemMarceau, YUMmy_Bacon5 and 2 others like this

oh and BTW some stuff is broken already like some of text markdown not working, can't properly delete your own threads anymore (example here --> Introductions forum - this thread is supposed to be deleted. - Speedrun), be able to pin your own threads, bugged notifications and more i have yet to find, did anyone genuinely even test this before they rollout the update? what a joke of an update dude, i really fucking miss pac already.

the update doesn't really deserve writing about all the obvious flaws people have already posted about again, but this hasn't been mentioned yet so I will post a screenshot complaining about it

Arbitrary variable mapping (which includes subcategories) is coming in a future update. Here's what our CTO had to say about that

This is from the announcement post, please make sure you read it!

Verifiers not being able to edit runs was a bug, its now being fixed
