You can either plan on console (either an original SNES, a Wii or Wii U using virtual console, or a SNES Classic), or on emulator. If you play on console, you will need a capture card to get the game play into your computer. For a SNES and Wii, most people use a GV-USB2. You will also need a way to split the signal between your TV and the capture card.

For the Wii U or SNES Classic, you will need an HDMI capture card (I recommend the Elgato HD60). The HDMI capture cards generally act as a passthrough too and will just sit between the console and TV.

You broadcast to Twitch using software like OBS.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/wiki/index has a lot of guides. http://www.screevo.com/2016/09/streaming-setup/ is what I use. The Speedrun.com forums will also have some guides.

Good luck!

That's pretty much the same as bottom right Armos as far as time goes, and you have to walk further to get into position to set it up. But doesn't appear slower than bottom right, so if it works better for you, that's good enough!

By the way, if you aren't in the ALTTP discord, I suggest you pop in. That's probably the easiest place to share stuff like this and discuss strat variations.

Yes, marginally. The SNES runs at approximately 60.1FPS whereas the WiiVC runs at 59.97FPS leading to a difference of approximately 14 seconds over 90 minutes. Also, the WiiVC version uses the US 1.1 version which means you will have a slower experience due to text as well as none of the time-saving minor glitches (mirror block erase, item dashing, spin speed, fake flippers).

That said, WiiVC is a perfectly acceptable platform to run on, and the run on the US version is still quite fun to learn.

That is fine, and is a known limitation of modern logitech pads. It's intended, I believe, to improve control for fighting games but sucks for real retro games. Just be aware that this will possibly make movement very difficult at a higher level, and might make pumping near impossible (if you ever bother with it.). The main idea behind the rule is that, when playing on keyboard, you can't bind diagonals to make clipping super easy.

Without seeing what you are doing, it's hard to say, I recommend joining the discord and sharing videos of your attempts there so we can help. It is a hard clip, and a lot of the inputs are 1-frame inputs, but folks in the discord can offer suggestions for improving.

I'd be wary about it. Raspberry Pis tend to use a lot of non-standard cores, so I'd be wary of that. Also, how are you going to capture?

JP region. Any runs under US region with JP game is miscategorized.

JP alone saves 59 seconds. JP 1.0 saves even more due to the allowed minor glitches (spin speed, item dashing, mirror block erase, fake flippers.)

Hooking through a block while pushing is known; however, in the NMG route, those bombs aren't needed unless you skip other bombs in the route or make a mistake in bomb usage.

This isn't a great forum for that question. I suggest you join the ALTTP discord (there is a thread with the link) and ask in the #randomizer channel.

Technically emulator, but for the purposes of leaderboards, console I imagine. No one has ever gotten a remotely competitive time with one of those so the topic has never really come up.

Correct. Mothula does not take damage from the gold sword, OR from a tempered sword spin.

Damage is dealt in classes. Fighter sword SLASH is damage class 1. Fighter spin and master sword slash are damage class 2, master spin and tempered slash are damage class 3, tempered spin and gold slash/spin are damage class 4. Moth, for whatever reason, is programmed to take 0 damage from damage class 4. The spikes in the room do Damage Class 4 damage, so it was an oversight to prevent Moth from killing himself flying into the spikes.

On a related note, the master sword does half the damage as the fighter sword on Armos, but that only comes up in puzzles or glitched categories.

Welcome to ALTTP, quite a strange game.

No. Please try to follow the spirit of the rules here. You are attempting to gain an advantage that is not possible on any official release by using inputs that are only possible on emulator, and you're doing it for quite possibly the worst reason, being "better pumping", and you have spent more time looking for a workaround than this will ever save you. (Pumping is 8-10 seconds over the course of the run if consistently executed perfectly.)

Remember, by the way, that you will need to show your input bindings at the end of any leaderboard submitted recording.

For all intents and purposes they are the same thing, consider them one and the same.

fwiw, I vote yes. There are plenty of people that wish to participate in the community but do not have the time to run a 4 hour category (especially when early runs will be 5-7 hours.) Other longer games with partial game categories have seen great success and participation and even the occasional new strat. Pally%, Kefka@narshe, Magus% are examples. There is no downside that I can see, so even if the upside is limited, it's still net positive.

I was curious and looked into this further. You can bind both joystick and d-pad. In fact, Wii U Virtual Console has both bound. HOWEVER, there are definite rules against using up+down and left+right, as those button combinations can break the game and allow you to walk through walls/stairs. SO, if you choose to bind your joystick AND your d-pad, please make sure your emulator has the ability to disable up+down and left+right. If you accidentally use them on a run, the run is disallowed.

Ohio, USAstephen_irl8 years ago

It is not. You can use dpad OR joystick. Both cannot be mapped. Pumping is impossible on a joystick so I recommend dPad. You can only have one button mapped to up, down, left, right, select, start, A, b, X, Y, L, and R. No mailings to multiple buttons, and no duplicate mappings. You cannot map diagonals to a button.

Ohio, USAstephen_irl8 years ago

You cannot map multiple buttons to the same input, nor can you map a button to a diagonal. Please see the emulator specific rules.

Regarding pumping, any time you can, do. As long as link is facing up or left, you can pump. Use it for diagonals such as in escape, the sewers. We pump on a diagonal in both water rooms.

I believe Poor_little_pinkus' latest PB has input display. Watch his 12456 and see where he pumps.

I believe this is already done. Check out https://zeldamaps.com/?game=BotW
