I have the correct information you need to get this working. It is likely indeed a header issue and none of the other suggested issues. Give me a few minutes to get that together and I'll tell you how to fix it.
As an aside, any comments asking where to find ROMs, BIOS files, etc. are forbidden by site policy (not just us) and I will delete them. Also don't ask folks to send it to you.
I'm not in favor of changing that. If we did that, we'd need to go over a bunch of runs and alter the times. At a quick glance, there's roughly 100 runs on the LB comprised of Wii, WiiVC, Switch and NESClassic runs on just the Any% LB alone. Then you have Warpless, MWE and all 42 of the CE categories that we have which I haven't glanced at.
We currently don't award free time that wasn't actually achieved. You completed the run in 44.616. You didn't real-time complete it in 44.543.
It's generally understood that you are at a bit of a disadvantage by running on a slower platform. If I ran SM64 on N64 instead of the VC version, I wouldn't expect them to give me a time that I didn't actually get just because I ran on a slower platform. I do understand what you're saying though.
If we changed the rules for one category, we'd have to change it for all. I cannot see any scenario where changing the rules on just one category is a good idea.
You don't, currently. However, we do prefer that you do.
This thread is currently fine. We lock/delete threads at our discretion, not when someone asks us to.
Possible? Yes. Probable? No.
@HunterFlagpoleGlitch, you're not going to get a response posting in other threads for the same thing and I have deleted the comment. You also necroed a thread for no good reason.
You are not permitted to ask for ROMs in the forums or where to get them. This isn't a rule for just the forums for this game, it's a rule for the entire website.
You need to have an unmodified SMB1 ROM. You're on your own on where to acquire that. Any hints besides "somewhere on the internet" will be deleted. You need Lunar IPS which is a program that applies patches to ROMs. That's easy to find, Google it. You need the Pellsson patch which is under the resources link on this site.
Yes, you will need a computer to apply the patch. You mention that you don't have one, so I would recommend maybe asking someone who does.
Bow down to me my minions. Bow down and grovel to your overlord of SMB1. MUHAHAHAHA Kappa
Okay, let be real here now that I've taken the time to respond to this.
@zdoroviy_antony I don't appreciate your incendiary accusations. This coming from my perspective as a person, not as a moderator. I don't really let it bother me, but I still don't appreciate it. You're not the first person to be mad at me and you're surely not the last. It's something that I've learned to deal with and I deal with it pretty well most of the time with the role I have taken.
So let's address some of your comments and concerns shall we?
Why did you delete the thread? I deleted it because people were taking sides and being hostile to one another. It seemed to me that it was spiraling out of civility and so I made the decision to remove it. I actually waited and took a fair amount of time before I actually did it.
"You didn't even tell me, so it is unfair." I'm not obligated to report to someone when I delete a post/thread.
"Deleting forums, just because not everybody likes it is not how public forums should be done. It needs to be free for discussing ideas. Whether or not I like the idea is irrelevant. The forums are free for discussing ideas. However, it was no longer a discussion, but a cesspool of toxic comments toward people on the other side. Leaving things like that looks really bad for newcomers as it looks like we do a lot of fighting with each other. Had everything stayed chill, the thread would have stayed.
"You don't own this game, you don't own all the speedruns of this game and you obviously not a God." Thank you for letting me know, I was totally unaware. I suppose my question to you is: "why does that matter?" I don't see anywhere that requires me to be the best at the game to be capable of verifying runs and moderating the forums. Sure, I used to be much higher on the leaderboards years ago and I have fallen behind a bit. So what? That doesn't mean I don't know my stuff. It doesn't mean that I'm not capable. I have a variety of life and motivational reasons on why I don't grind out a top tier time which I will not discuss here. Being the best at the game doesn't always mean that you're suitable for the role.
"Please, be respectful to ideas, that just you or even most of the community don't like, just don't read this threads." I let ideas be discussed as long as it doesn't become a problem. There are plenty of ideas that I don't like and plenty that I do like. As long as people are chill, it's fine. Just don't read the threads? Sorry, that's not how this works.
"Don't bee too proud of yourself and don't try to take away all the game to your own hands." Proud of myself? I feel you have a misunderstanding of my demeanor and my intentions. You honestly think I enjoy dealing with these situations, puff up my chest and give myself a pat on the back? No, I feel you are mistaken. I'd much rather have everyone be chill, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, as the community grows, this is an increasingly difficult problem to keep in check at times. Here's what I think. I think you're taking me sometimes being somewhat formal and assertive to mean something that it's not. It's not because I like to be that way, it's because I feel I have to be that way. Somebody needs to do it and I'm the person who does it. I'm not afraid to say what I feel needs needs to be said and I realize some people like it and some people don't. I don't lose sleep at night because not everyone likes me. It's a part of this role and it's a fact of life. I got over that many many years ago.
I spend probably more of my time doing things with and for the community than I honestly should, but I do it because enjoy it and I like to help out. I'm helping run this year's Warpless tournament and I ran the one last year by myself. It is honestly a huge sacrifice of time to run a big tournament. If you've never ran one of that scale, I feel that a lot of people don't realize just how much work these things take to get it to run well, timely and as smoothly as possible. I do this because I like seeing people have fun and getting excited for races and getting involved with other members of the community. It even encourages people to try out Warpless. It's not for my benefit, it's for everyone else.
I will now force myself to stop babbling. Y'all have a good Friday. :)
Yeah, basically the Switch won't let you do L+R. At least not natively.
Hello everyone. We're happy to announce open registration for the 2019 Warpless Tournament! Registration is open from now until June 2nd at noon EDT. The tournament will offically start on June 3rd. Using the feedback from last year's tournament, we're keeping the format the same with a few minor differences. There will be a prize pool that anyone can pitch in if they wish when that is completely setup. That is by no means a requirement and there's no pressure to do so. Only if you want to.
Please read ALL of the details on the bracket before you join. That's your responsiblity.
If you're intersted in doing commentary for races, let us know and we'll go over that with you.
The process for scheduling races will be a little different this year and we will provide details on that when we have everything we need.
SpeedGaming will be handling most of our restreams again. Please respect their time and efforts by being on time and attentive. Matches not able to be fit into their schedule may be restreamed on the SMB1Community channel.
Your @Admins are: roopert83, Tecate, Xeroxfiend and tjk113 if you have issues or questions.
Here's the bracket: https://smb1.challonge.com/smb1warpless2019
Let's have a fun and successful tournament! :)
Generally, if you want to capture video, you'd buy a capture card for your computer that you'd plug your Switch's HDMI cable into.
However, to directly answer your question, yes we will accept runs recorded with a webcam or phone as long as we can see the whole screen and the video is watchable.
Hi, thanks for bringing this up. We're very aware of how to distinguish a PAL run from an NTSC run. The errors were likely an oversight or they forgot to change the region. It's an easy thing to miss and I've honestly made this mistake as well in the past.
I'll try to go back and fix those sometime today.
I will likely make a post for the runners as well as there seems to be some misunderstanding on what region they submit.
