I actually just found an even faster cycle for 4-castle. It allows a 59 at the door. Getting the star is slower. Trust me.
Also I will fix the 7-2 thing. We already had a mini mushroom anyways because we did have one already since we go
- 4-castle
- 5-1
- 5-2
- 5-Ghosthouse
- 7-1
- 7-2
To be honest most all of the things you said seem to go with my route. I think we should keep it the way it is. We need a mini mushroom for world 7 anyways.
We could keep mini mario for 4-Tower but that is slow because it loses 10 IGT seconds from floaty jumping/slow jumps and who wants to fight Bowser Jr with mini mario when we don't have to... It's the anti-fun.
And I did make a typo before, I was referring to the shell for 4-Ghosthouse, my apologies. Yes, we don't need it but it speeds up 3-1 so it's a good idea to hold on to the shell.
To be honest, I really do like my route a lot. I will edit things as I proofread and play along with the route but as of now I think we should keep it as it is. Unless I missed something or you have any other concerns that is.
Thank you so much for thoroughly looking over my work and offering new ideas. I'll start on the 7-2 thing now.
You can get at least 341 on 7-2 with the skip and about 210 without the skip.
Oh wow that Bowser Jr thing is huge thank you so much! And the only problem I have with your route is that we wouldn't have mini mario for 4 castle. Mini mario saves a TON of time there because he saves multiple cycles. Also 4-A is much more RTA safe with mini mario... You can technically go just as fast with normal mario but it's stupidly difficult.
As for the Bowser thing we'll take the 5-Ghost House secret exit. I tested for a long time today and the secret exit is faster anyways. The only place we can get a mini mario in worlds 1-4 outside of red blocks is 1-4, 2-Castle, (Both super slow) and 3-A. 3-A is on the path so it is the best place to get it. We also need a shell in 4-4 to speed up world 3.
And we reeaaally want that shell for the normal exit in 5-Ghosthouse. That stupid big boo can troll very badly.
I just tested 7-5. We will not be getting a mega mushroom. The mega mushroom only saves 4 IGT seconds at most. This is equivalent to only 3 RTA seconds. It would take A LOT longer than 3 seconds to get a mega mushroom
No mega: Mega:
I used a tiny safe in no mega because the IL strat saves little time and is pretty risky for RTA. But regardless of that I think this still proves my point.
For a mega mushroom we should probably just spend an extra 5 stars to get to a mushroom house. There are many star coins anyways. Either that or end a level with x77, x88, or x99.
Hm where does the mega mushroom save time in world 7? By the way, the route looks EXTREMELY sloppy in worlds 5 and 7 right now but I am about to fix it right now. Also we'll only need one toad or we'll have to sacrifice time on Petey and kill him with the shell. The star would still probably be faster though.
I do not feel comfortable putting in red blocks.
So we can actually fight big goomba with mini mario and it loses 8 seconds. This seems to be our only place to get a mini mushroom outside of going to 5-castle and taking a long time to beat petey, going to a mushroom house (and an extra warp), or simply getting lucky. Here is my idea for a possible route with time differences:
4-Castle: +8 on boss with mini mario 5-2: 363 (no mini) vs 359 (mini) +4 5-Ghost House: mini mario -10 due to faster elevator 7-1: 338 (no mini) vs 358 (mini) -20 7-Ghosthouse: 365 (normal exit) (no mini) with a good invisible block (no mini) vs 370 (mini) -5 7-2: Autoscroller 7-3: Another Autoscroller 7-Tower: mini mario saves 9 seconds from fast cycles -9 From 7-Tower we will use a fire flower reserve before the boss as the mini mushroom is no longer needed.
Conclusion: Mini Mario saves 37 IGT or 27.75 RTA.
I know that the route is weird but drastic measures had to be taken in order to get all the poweups we need. And as for the Goomba I remember killing him super quickly once with a ground pound without even doing a wall jump and his death animation took soooooo long. But that's only if you finish him off with a ground pound. And I will edit the star coin count when I'm done. For now I just wanted it to be easier for us since we know we need 30 overall. Also are there any mini mushrooms in coin blocks from worlds 5-8? We need a mini mushroom for 5-ghosthouse and the beginning of world 7
Well guys I just finished documenting worlds 2,3, and 4 and I gotta say I could not be any happier with them. We're going to be totally fine star coin wise. We can probably go back and take out anything that is even minorly out of the way when we're done though. Here is what was accomplished power up wise:
-Shell for 3-1, 3-3, and 4-Ghost house (kills big boo) -mini mario for secret exit in 4-Ghost House, 4-A, and 4-Castle. -Fireballs for the big goomba
I accomplished every single goal I wanted to complete in worlds 1-4.
There's no reason not to get the 2-A coin it's free. The third coin does cost an RTA second. I'm totally okay with skipping that coin though. I think we should add a coin count to help organize the route. And we will need to go through world 2 twice (overworld wise) due to having to get the entrance to worlds 3 and 4. In conclusion, the secret exit of 2-A must be taken to save a lot of over world movement. So yes, the route should be edited and I'll do that right now. Thank you.
I found a solution to the issue with needing a mini mushroom- there is a mini mushroom in 3-A. I'm about to update the route doc.
I agree that emu shouldn't be banned. If Wii U VC is legal so should emu.
Also the odds of getting the shell and mini mushroom in a run would be 1/64 so yeah... that's too much to hope for. And the elevator climb would require a lot of vertical walljumps to even save time. You gain so little height from normal wall jumps.
Also note that it does waste time going to get the mini mushroom it would take at least 2 IGT to get the mini mushroom so we're looking at (based on the new IL with the lack of optimization on the coin blocks) 8 IGT seconds saved. That is the equivalent of 6 RTA seconds. We would also need to have a lucky blue shell on 8-3 or we lose 40 IGT. So now we're looking at a ¤beautiful¤ 1/512 chance of getting all the drops we need.
In other words the new route is completely RTA viable OpieOP
My run was near perfect up until world 8. Here is my projected time saves: 8-1: pretty good, could save some frames with optomized shell jumps 8-2: didn't make timer -2 IGT 8-3: -1 or 2 IGT: movement 8-Tower: Perfect I believe but no Bowser Jr quick kill. I'd have to be out of my mind to go for that in a run though. 8-4: Good 8-Castle: Good 8-5: Good 8-6: Many mistakes -8 IGT seconds or so 8-7: Many mistakes, took shell not fireballs -10 IGT 8-8: Good 8-Tower 2- Missed fireballs -4 or 5 IGT 8-Bowser- Very sloppy everywhere, got fire -10 IGT
Overall IGT: 37 RTA equivalent: 27.75 Projected Time: ~23:09
Note: This is with current strats only
Hmm... Well I guess I'll adress my first routing issue.
World 5 leads to world 7 if you beat Petey with Mini Mario. -5-C will be around 420 with mini mario
4-Ghosthouse will lead to world 7 -Bring a mini mushroom in storage and use it sometime after destroying the blocks. This will give you around a 460 or so.
The cannon would be an extra level, but we would also skip the little cutscene before and after Petey.
4-C is much faster with mini mario -Without the mushroom you get a 428 -With the mushroom (and a fireflower in storage) you get a 443
Of couse now the main issue is getting the items in storage.
Time saved with mini mushroom: 55 IGT (41.25 RTA)
This is such a major timesave it would actually be faster to go to a toadhouse, but obviously we want to avoid that. Does anyone know all of the mini mushroom locations? All I know is 1-4 and 2-C
Are canons going to count towards the All Levels goal?

I'm going to start learning and routing All Levels. Feel free to help out.
I think small mario only (low%) would be a great idea for IL's. As for single segment, secret exits in 1-Tower and 5-B wouldn't be accesible. We'd also have to go to world 6 which I know nothing about right now. The world 2 boss would be different and 5-Castle would be very different. So low% would be like a combination of cannonless and secret exitless.
I think the reason we have all levels as the only category is so that we can just play on completed files. I mean sure, we could make routes for warpless and warps if you want but the main category for IW's should definitely be all levels.
