ScotlandI would message the verifier who rejected it first of all and ask them to clarify why it would not be accepted in future. It may be that there is something wrong with the submission in general (for example, perhaps it isn't a full recording, or some of the footage is blocked, or doesn't obey a specific rule).
I would speak to the verifier directly first of all before bringing it up with the site staff.
This is entirely the wrong forum to have this conversation, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the idea. I personally would love to run a "100%" category on Streets Of Rage 4 that involved killing every enemy, including the optional boss fights, hitting every interactive element and using every weapon. So far though, nobody else is interested.
"Speedrunning" is what you make of it. Look at SMW category extensions. There are dozens of ways to "speedrun" that game, it's not necessarily about completing the game the fastest way possible. Heck, look at SMB3. How boring would it be if everyone was just doing the Wrong Warp because that is technically "the fastest".
Just remember, speedrunning isn't supposed to be all about getting a world record :) it is about testing yourself and having fun while learning more about games you enjoy!
It's a good thing the Metroid rules already state that the use of turbo functions etc are banned.
If using an analogue stick helps preserve people's thumbs etc over thousands of hours of gameplay, I welcome it. As Laxxus says, you're probably at a minor disadvantage doing so, but I think in 2021 we should be considering runners health as well within our rule sets. NES controllers were not designed for being used hours per day ever single day. In my opinion.
But opinions aside, the SMB community say analogue controllers are fine, and the Metroid community say turbo functions are banned.
I would suggest if you are concerned about future PBs/WRs getting rejected, perhaps take extra steps such as having a camera pointing at your controller to help persuade the verifiers that you aren't cheating. This is just a personal suggestion though, you would be better asking the SMB1 community directly through their own forum / Discord / mod team.

You can use any controller you want so long as you don't use L+R or U+D so for instance, yes you can use analogue sticks, but no you cannot hold left on d-pad and right on analogue stick to break the rules.
Yes, it is very helpful. Learning the mechanics of a second game might help you think of strategies for the first game that nobody had considered before.
It can also be a hindrance from a "muscle memory" point of view, if you are trying to learn two very different physical techniques at the same time, however from a mentality standpoint, learning multiple games absolutely helps you learn "speedrunning" in general a lot better and faster.
Oreo's response does make sense, however I like this idea. For instance, if I come across a really good and informative runner, it would be nice to see what other games they have contributed to as I may then decide to play those games based on their guides.
If it was easy enough to implement it would be a neat feature.
That's cool that there seems to be a way around it to add in freetype. I haven't been able to figure it out myself. I still think it should just be the standard that people can freetype.
Trolls are going to exist everywhere in the world, it is ludicrous to suggest that people who would benefit from this change in good faith should be penalised because some future troll may abuse it. Punish the infraction when it occurs, not everyone else for a pre-crime.

I absolutely hate it to be honest. I don't think it's just because nobody likes change, I've really spent time trying to like it but everything looks washed out like someone has splashed the site with bleach. Really dislike it.
Streets Of Rage 4 has a lot of characters and six different categories AND individual level leaderboards to.
So there are literally hundreds of categories you can run, ranging from 2 minutes to 1.5 hours, so would suit anyone - assuming you like beat-em-ups/fighting games.

Sadly the SMB2 run wasn't that great however did you see the Super Orb Bros run? That was WILD!
I can't remember the details, but when Red Faction came out online gaming was very much in its infancy (to me, at least) and I remember there being a lot of weird chat commands that PC players could use to totally override online deathmatches.
I thought it was the worst, most frustrating thing in the world.... until I figured out how to do it myself xD
Sorry the story is so vague, but you reminded me of a period of time I'd completely forgotten about. Online DMs were wild back then (early 2000s).
For runs that long, getting within an hour is not bad at all. Pokemon is a great series, I was heavily into it when it first came out (probably due to reading about it in Japan before we got the release!) but haven't played much the last few generations.

The NES is probably the system I have least experience of. I have began practising SMB2/3 again this week, however in order to take a break inbetween practice to not get frustrated I was looking for more games to try.
Ideally I am looking for four or five platformer or sports games to play also, but that don't already have like 100 runners (so no SMB1/Metroid/Mega Man please); if people who are more experienced with the NES could give me suggestions of other games to check out, games like Alfred Chicken for example is perfect, I would appreciate it :)
