So in the last year I've held a rallying speedrunning marathon based around the Colin McRae Rally/DIRT Series and this time we are back for a third installment with McRaeathon 3.
We are raising money this time around and are allowing all off-road racing/rallying games so if that sounds like the kind of marathon you'd like to be a part of be sure to check out the official thread and submit some of your favourite runs today! 😃

So this was my first time at ESA and I loved the entire week from start to finish :D
Most people have covered my points with both streams being in the same a bad idea and also the whole Street Boyz fiasco (Which I loved btw) Didn't really see too much of the other rooms such as Mafia and the Board Games room as they weren't within my interests but a nice addition to have for those that do use them :)
Ok so to mention a few things that I feel need bringing up, the whole rubbish discussion everyone has mentioned I'm on your side and do agree that people should at the very least put their rubbish in the bins provided since most people that attended are at the point in their lives where they are a adult and putting a little bit of rubbish in a bin isn't that difficult.
The tournament room where they had the races and the GTA San Andreas relay race (Which was incredible btw and I'd recommend keeping that for the next event) was a bit tight and could have done with being in a slightly bigger room if possible.
I thought the hotel was nice as was the room that I stayed in but I have a problem, the whole policy with the food and drink stuff. Now I do understand that they allowed you to take food and drink up to your rooms or you could eat them outside as its the hotel and they expect you to eat their food etc. But when your food and drink is nearly 2x and sometimes 3x the price of what you can get in the supermarkets it becomes a joke and is horrible really to have to pay the extra money for the same thing in the hotel.
A huge plus side to the event was meeting so many new people and old friends from my last few years in speedrunning, it was great to meet you all and I hope we can all meet again soon :)
The actual venue location and where everything was located was perfect travelling distance for me and won't be a factor for me to travel to the event again should it be hosted here in the Summer next year which is great :D
Overall I don't think there's much else to say other than I had one of if not the best time of my life during this ESA event and also I don't think I mentioned the Ice Cream or Popcorn did I? ;) Well in that case I'll sign this off by saying Ice Cream and Popcorn was eaten and it was delicious so credits to the chef on that one :P
Hi there, So when playing this game and doing the World Xplorer Any% speedrun I noticed the amount of races you can do on the Basic Route and thought what about creating a category to complete all races on the Basic Route as well? Granted it would take a lot longer but for those such as myself willing to give it a try why not eh? :)
Sounds good thanks 👍
Hi there, So I recently picked this game up again and started playing it and I remembered that there was a Rally DLC released for the game a few years ago so I was thinking if I did a run of Any% (Complete the final rally event as fast as possible) would a leaderboard be able to be created for it? You could have it as a Misc. one if needed as it is DLC rather than something that is involved with the standalone game?
Hi there, I'd like to consider running the full game at some point soon however there seems to be no proper route guide for Any% and if someone does have one any chance you could put a link here so that others like myself can download and use it? Many Thanks

Unfortunately no as if we remove that then all of the other sections disappear unfortunately :/

In terms of what I used, originally I used ePSXe V1.9.0 with the SCPH1001 BIOS when I ran on emulator. However when I moved to console and did my PB run I ran on a NTSC PS2 Slim (Model SCPH-90001) with FDS and the NTSC version of the game, hope this helps :)

- Make sure to keep chat sensible at all times (No talk of hate speech or political chatter)
- Jokes are fine as long as they don't go too far (No racial jokes or religious jokes of any kind)
- All entrants are allowed to enter however we do have to put an age limit on things here, minimum age for participation is 15 Years of Age or higher.
- Games can be run on emulators if necessary
- We allow all runners as long as they feel they can run their games properly and can keep under the estimate they set themselves :)

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask them here and we will get back to answering them as quickly as possible! :)
PAL usually runs at 50FPS max and NTSC runs at 60FPS max. I'd have it set to 60FPS so that you're good all round.
So a few weeks ago before the new year I had a thought about some extra categories for the game that might interest a few people :D
The categories will most likely be Misc. as I don't think they need to be main categories due to their length, the ideas though? Complete a city (Complete Miami, Complete San Francisco, Complete Los Angeles and Complete New York)
I have done runs on the PS1 version of the game and have a rough idea of where the runs should start and where they should finish but I think it would be better to hear other people's opinions on this one so thoughts anyone? :)
Hi there, unfortunately the game series of Colin McRae Rally does not have a series moderator after looking at it recently and I would like to take on the role of series manager along with a fellow runner (Josef733) If this could somehow be sorted out it means we can sort out a few things in the series, such as adding different versions of some of the games and adding some of the newer games when they come out :)
My personal favourite is the original Colin McRae Rally for PlayStation, we have a couple of runners but could always do with a few more. The shortest category we have is Rally School % (Complete all Rally School courses) but the shortest main category we have is Championship% (Novice) which takes around an hour but can be quite competitive if you can make it through. Would be good to see some more competition for this game really as think it is a classic rally game that a lot of gamers will remember playing either through their childhood or when they were living through the 90's ;) Leaderboard link: https://www.speedrun.com/Colin_McRae_Rally
