No, it doesn’t, it’s still a bug that needs to be fixed lol. I just wanted to give you the workaround to get them uploaded in the meantime.

Or anyone who’s done the 3D Zelda Challenge (Gymnast, Sva, etc).

Or even someone like Cheese who has the 120 start WR in SM64 and at one time was I think Top 5 or Top 3 in OOT 100%.

Requiring people to play on emulator is a good way to get people to not want to participate. A lot of emulators, even ones officially licensed, have input delay compared to regular consoles that can make it harder to play the game effectively. This would cause a lot of grief for runners who have never played on a version like that. Additionally, they can often run slower than official hardware (the NES classic loses like a second every 10 minutes or something like that) so it would be counterproductive to a speedrunning competition to require everyone to go slower.

Also, cheating, especially in the form of hardware modifications, is rather sparse in speedrunning. Most people who cheat do so through splicing videos together to form a fake run (and even this doesn't happen as often as clickbait YouTube videos/series would like you to believe), they don't do anything to their consoles. I'm racking my brain to think of a case where someone cheated by modifying their console in some way and I can't come up with anything off the top of my head. You don't really need to worry about people modifying their consoles, it would most likely become obvious through gameplay if something special was impacting the game.

That is a known bug that has been reported over the years. You need to zip the splits first before you can upload them.

I’ve done it and I’m personally not a fan of it. I find it much harder to learn a route when I’m not familiar with the game at all. But I also feel like it depends on the game. If it’s a game with a lot of menus, that might not be too bad, but if it’s a game with heavy moment tech or other tricks, then it might be difficult to learn without knowing the mechanics of the game.

Those types of runs probably won’t be very good to start with if your first run is also your first playthrough pretty much, but that just means more/bigger improvement and more practice ahead of time can still result in good times since you’ll get experience playing the game that way. I’d say it’s up to you and the type of game that it is.

Not without modding the game (in most cases) which isn't allowed in speedrunning competitively (LBs, races, GDQ-like events, etc).

You need to ask the mods of the game, but those sites are definitely running emulation. However if the emulator isn’t known, then you may find it’s not allowed. But that’s for the mods to answer that definitively.

Use any video editing software that can show the frames of a video (Vegas, Avidemux, etc). Find the starting frame and the ending frame according to the rules for the game.

Then it’s simple math - (end frame - start frame) / capture FPS.

That’ll give you the length of the run in seconds and you can convert that from there.
If you're going to make it even more of a pain in the rear to log in to the site, can you PRETTY PLEASE let us stay logged in forever? It really grinds my gears that the dang site logs me out every couple days.
Ignoring the obvious bait about 2FA...

I've been logged into the site for 8 months straight - the only times I've ever been logged out were forced logouts by staff after accounts were compromised before (hence the whole point of this) or when I do a full browser clean that involves removing my cookies. As far as I know, the site doesn't do any regular logouts of users.

If I remember correctly, WQ didn’t want his run listed on the site. This site’s policy is to not include runs if the runner doesn’t want them on the boards. Granted that may not be the case and I may be remembering something from a while ago, so someone can correct me if needed.

Not really sure what you’re talking about, but there are the LBs for Half Life. Additionally, the community uses their own website found at https://sourceruns.org/ as their main hub for everything.

A capture card uses barely any computer resources, streaming and recording are what use them. A capture card just provides a video and audio stream, you’ll need to adjust your settings in OBS/XSplit/whatever to work for your specs.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs5 years ago

I can’t speak for the quality of that capture card, but if you can afford around an extra 20 pounds or so, I cant stress enough that the gv-usb2 is the best standard def capture card out there https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IO-DATA-USB-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2-from-Japan-F-S/202678224494?hash=item2f3090466e:g:gQkAAOSwHElc3BNB

You need to ask the mods of the game in question. Each community for a game usually decides what categories to create.

Yeah that’s been an issue for a while, I reported it a while ago. Last I remember, Volvagia knew what caused it but had more pressing things to deal with/fix at the time.

Does the LB have it set so platforms obsolete each other? I don’t know this for certain, but I think that filter won’t show runs done on different platforms unless the LB obsoletes different platforms (and the two runs of yours that are showing are on different platforms -Android and Android [BRA]). It only hide obsolete runs done on the same platform.

All of what you said is great if the game(s) you're using are devoid of randomness (which is probably almost no games). Either that or you're assuming every player knows how to manipulate the game to behave in their favor. The idea is flawed in that someone could play better overall (have cleaner movement, better timing, stuff that requires more "skill", etc), but simply get a lower score or a slower time because of some randomness like needing to jump/dodge extra times.

Sure, you're testing to see how well people can adapt to that, but you're also going to see people fail just because of things they can't control within the game. In other words, you're not comparing pure skill all the time - you're comparing skill relative to what the game gives to work with.
