I don't know much about that software, but as long as it gives you a video, you're fine.

Most runs need/want some kind of video proof, so if PlaysTV lets you record your gameplay which you can then upload to YouTube, you'll be fine.

For ALTTP save and quit is only allowed in Master Sword RTAs and glitched categories. Usually No Major Glitches don't allow it for historical reasons.

As for what constitutes a Major Glitch, it's easier to define the "non-major" ones which are spin speed, fake flippers and item dashing. Those are considered "non-major" because they don't allow you to seriously sequence break the game, they only allow for movement and routing optimization. For what it's worth, those glitches are also JP 1.0 only.

Finally, for the left+right and up+down, it's banned to press the both directions at the same time when using emu because pressing both opposite directions simultaneously allows for weird things and large glitches to happen. It's also not possible on real hardware without controller modding so it's banned. You're allowed to rapidly alternate presses of the directions Andy it can be used in some cases to move a few frames faster.

And yeah, all questions like this are better suited for the game forum, just figured I'd help a bit here since I'm familiar with the game.

Im honestly not sure if things like OBS, XSplit, Livesplit, WSplit, etc. even support XP. It's such an old operating system (hell aside from the WannaCry patch Microsoft hasn't updated it in like 3-4 years) that I doubt you'll find any of the modern software we use for speedrunning are able to run on it. It could just be a slew of compatibility problems with XP that is setting of a "virus" alert for your AV.

So, yeah, you probably gotta either switch to a better AV or switch to a better/more up to date operating system.
If the community cares a lot about having every time listed on the boards for accuracy, list them all, no exceptions.
Who defines "the community" for a game? Is it a majority, the LB mods, or some other group? Why does a community get to decide to do with a runner's run? That's like saying that the second a run is streamed on Twitch, the runner no longer has control over what happens to the run in regards to LBs. Just because someone does a run of a game or gets WR, doesn't mean they want to be represented on the LBs or be associated with the srcom community. This may seem silly but I know a few runners over the years who have had this sentiment. (it's why I feel so strongly about this, because Ive seen people get really annoyed at the insistence of having their run listed when all they want to do is remove themselves completely from speedrunning for personal reasons).

That's where my issue with this lies: I don't think anyone but the runner should get to decide what to do with it or whether or not to list it. If a run is listed for them and they don't care, then all is well. But if it's listed for them and they don't want it, the respectful thing to do would be to honor their wishes and remove it. I know if someone started adding runs of mine without my permission and refused to remove them the first thing I would do is delete the Twitch VOD and make the YT video private because it would irritate me that someone else would try to control how my run is represented.

True, what you've said would alleviate some of the potential confusion issues. My statement about a new mod being confused was more for smaller games where there is maybe only one mod and runs aren't posted frequently and moderation might change hands via the request thread on here when a new runners comes into the game with runs waiting. But you're right, for larger communities they wouldn't have that issue (and not many smaller games would probably see this).

I guess we just differ on the importance of accuracy in LBs. I understand the desire to have all the times listed, but I also see LBs as kinda meaningless since this hobby existed before LBs and would exist even if some times are missing. Runner's decisions > LB accuracy to me, but I can completely understand reversing that.

no worries, it can be deceptive since the forum title is "Streaming" after all. Im sure you're not the first to do it nor will you be the last :p

The best way of testing a cart is to actually do a 1.0 glitch like spin speed or item dashing. Similar to other games, you can look at the punch code on the back of the cart for identification:

 • xx is 1.0
 • xxA is 1.1
 • xxB is 1.2 where xx is any set of numbers.

However this hinges on the assumption that at no point did the seller change the back of the cart (sellers will sometimes take a yellowed, old back and replace it with a clean one from a different game).

If you're looking for a seller that is known to be reliable, one recommendation I have is http://stores.ebay.com/retro-saikou/?rmvSB=true who is a member of the speedrunning community and often has 1.0 carts available that he tests and confirms are legit 1.0 carts. Other than that, others might have other sellers they known and trust or you can roll the dice and find an ebay/amazon listing that shows the back of the cart clear enough to see the punch code and hope it wasn't swapped.

Yes, absolutely, if a runner doesn't want their time listed it shouldn't be listed.

If a runner doesn't want their time on a leaderborad then they should have the right to not list it or delete it. I understand the desire to keep LBs "up to date and accurate", but it's really not the end of the world if a run isn't on there. Most involved runners of games will know of the run that exists but isn't listed and can point people to that run if a VOD exists publicly. But there is no reason to list it on the board if the runner doesn't want it.

It's kind of a "respect their wishes" kinda thing. People speedrun all the time without a care in the world about the LBs or how their times rank. If they want to speedrun without being involved on the LBs, then let them. Or if they want to remove themsevles from this hobby and removing their runs is what they want to do, then let them.

I don't personally think that adding just the time with "Anonymous" like Ihavenoname mentioned is a good idea because if you just list a time with no information about it, that is setting up the LB for disaster. What if a moderator does that then disappears from the site and the hobby. Now, a new mod steps up and has no idea what this Anonymous time is because the runner who got it existed before the new mod's involvement in the game. There is no user, no date, no video, no proof of any kind. They'd probably want to remove it for the sake that in an uneducated person's eyes, that run could be faked. At that point it's not a case of accuracy, it's a case of confusion.

In the end, if someone deletes their times, their videos, etc. don't go and re-upload them on another YT channel or re-add them to the LBs, just let that person remove their speedrunning presence in peace. And doing the Anonymous no information other than the time is just too much potential for issues without any real gain imo.

This really isn't a forum for advertising your stream, it's mostly for questions or issues related to streaming (can't get OBS to work, where to start with setting up splits, etc.)

While you're waiting, you can reach out to the moderator(s) on their social media links or make a post in the forums just to give them a little extra notification if you haven't been verified after a week or so.

If it reaches 2-3 weeks with no response from the mods, you can request to become moderator here https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7

Yeah in that case then it sounds like your GPU is having an issue of some kind. Aside from re-installing any drivers you have for it, idk how else to troubleshoot it aside from replacing it. If you have a friend or something with a spare GPU you can try using that and see if the problem persists.

Make sure to submit it if you haven't yet, would be great to see a run on the board https://www.speedrun.com/Magic_Boy

Timers like Livesplit and WSplit are just regular programs you run. Once they're running, you right click and hit "add splits" to add whatever splits you want. You can also mess around in the settings to customize things like hotkeys for controlling splitting and whatnot. If you're using Livesplit, it has a TON of features to customize the look and feel of the timer/layout to your liking. You can look around in there for quite some time and mess around with what you think looks best.

After that you just capture the program in your broadcasting software and you're good to go.

A lot of crashes can be related to your OS, so I would start with re-installing that if it is possible.

As for the hardware overheating, I'm not sure that would cause what you're describing because if your hardware is consistently overheating it would probably do a lot more than just cause some graphical glitches or at least give you some kind of indication/warning before just crashing. (that being said, I see you're using an AMD CPU and the last time I used an AMD CPU it ran so hot that it fried 80% of my system and I've heard people say the only way they could get proper cooling for AMD was with liquid cooling. Obviously my own experience and that of a few others is hardly indicative of a problem so take it with a grain of salt, but just an anecdote).

If you are concerned about cooling, make sure your fan on your CPU is running good and make sure no fans are loaded with dust that could be inhibiting air flow to the system. You could also make sure the thermal paste on your CPU looks good, maybe apply a little more if it's an older build.

Other than that it's hard to debug these kind of issues as it could probably be a number of different things from bad drivers to a failing part.

kirkq cleaned out the game request queue before SGDQ (at least I think I remember him saying that, or I could just be going insane) so assuming you submitted it sometime in the last 10 days or so, it should be verified soon as admins get back from the event and start sorting through everything on here again.

Hi, as a member of the KH community I definitely recommend bringing this to the KH forums or join our discord (invite link is stickied in the series forum) and bring this to the #BBS channel there.

Im sure a lot of people would be excited to see what idea(s) you have and talk about them. Good luck on doing runs and nice job looking for optimizations and new strats/routes.

iirc there was some questioning in the discord about whether this person was a bot https://www.speedrun.com/user/pundrang and now that they have posted two messages both not making too much sense and both linking to some strange site I think it's fair to say they are a bot of some kind.
