There's "View Rules" tab on every category which explains exactly what needs to be done.
Ye, I know, that run has been hanging for a while and truthfully - it will likely get rejected. The reason being - it doesn't do e1m8 which is actually doable NoMo now. The reason of why it was hanging and not being rejected:
- currently rules state that you need to end episode after map 7 (which as I said is not true for e1 anymore)
- I was considering removing nomo entirely as it really misses the point of all e1-e3 and e1-e4 runs, since you just abandon quite a few of maps (and nomo's that are m1-m7 are not even considered proper episode runs in a doom community, hence why there's only 1 run on srcom which actually does entire e1 nomo, which was done by depr4vity) , but srcom doesn't allow you to do so, since it is a subcategory which is applied to all main categories, so the only option is to keep it up, empty.
Regardless of my decesion your run will not fit in, and I'm sorry for keeping you in a dark for a long time, I just really don't have much time on my hands to think of stuff like.
I'm cool with you willing to help. I just find it as a bad quality when people can't make some basic research and generally am not willing to do everything for them if they can't find info in the literal info page.
"I don't even think the dsda has any info on how to exactly set up a demo"
Yet it does. From DSDA prboom section: Recording In order to record a demo, you'll want to launch prboom+ along with the relevant command line options described above. This can be done on the actual command line, or via a batch file (.bat). Here is an example command:
prboom-plus.exe -iwad /path/to/doom.wad -skill 4 -warp 1 1 -complevel 3 -levelstat -record my_demo
From dsda crispy section: Recording In order to record a demo, you'll want to launch Crispy Doom along with the relevant command line options described above. This can be done on the actual command line, or via a batch file (.bat). Here is an example command:
crispy-doom.exe -iwad /path/to/doom.wad -skill 4 -warp 1 1 -record my_demo
I am not linking this (https://dsdarchive.com/intro) page for nothing everywhere, you know. Plus as you said, there's your video now. Making it even harder to justify not being able to find "how to".
that isn't "so rude" If I were to be rude you'd see some actual language. It is fairly often as of lately that people just pop into discord or doomworld and start asking questions that they will find answers for faster themselves without bothering anyone, yet they go on this texting adventure. It gets annoying. So while I still try to navigate people somewhere where they can read stuff, they choose not to.
fact that you are new doesn't justify that you put 0 effort into figuring something that is done with few google searches or actually checking game page here and then go and ask questions. You get sourceport. Put wad file in sourceport's folder. Create bat file, add command with "-record mydemo" in it. run that command, play game, quit, you get demo.
go here and read info for sourceport you are using https://dsdarchive.com/intro
Truth is - I can't really tell who has legit versions or not. Regardless - if demos playback on normal version, then it is all good. If it is video submission I just look for abnormalities.
Don't ask me, this is pc doom here, this thread is ancient. Go to any of console LBs and ask there on forum.
Updated singleplayer rules to have this: "Must use only main game difficulty modes. Customising difficulty is not allowed. Unless stated otherwise by other subcategory rules."
New patch added ability with custom difficulty, so now there's a potential infinite ammo run. Subcategory for that will likely be created when actual run happens. Before that empty category will not be hosted.
Thread for future game ruleset/category related changes.
Leaderboards are open with any% being the only category so far. Right now there's no reason to do more categories as that's the only one that has any progress made.
Livesplit asl file is in Resources section. Supports autosplitting and load removing.
IL timing rules might change a bit, due to how poorly IGT is implemented in this game.
Current ruleset isn't all that convoluted. In fact it is pretty much limited by what game allows to have. If there are any questions regarding rules - feel free to ask here or in Discord.
For any rulechanges or new categories there will be a Locked moderator-only forum thread.
Enjoy!
I guess I'll just link here, that bethesda unity port of doom engine runs are being tracked here: https://www.speedrun.com/doom_unity
Please don't submit your ILs on that version here.
They did update it to official bethesda port yes (dosbox is still present, or any other port if you had it setup in steam). There's leaderboards for that port here: https://www.speedrun.com/doom_unity It is actually fairly close to vanilla, rather than to gzdoom, but runs from it will go into the leaderboard that I just referred to.
This leaderboard (where I'm writting right now) is meant for original doom. All ports here are PC-only ports, vanilla compatible.
don't use forum posts as self advertisement, there are channels for that, for example in speedruncom discord.
From ruleset on dsda: "If a map requires (g)zdoom, you can more or less use any version of the associated ports that works, but be warned: these ports have poor demo compatibility and your run may only play back in the specific version you used."
In short - zdoom modifies original engine. Purpose of THIS leaderboard is to keep up with vanilla doom, which zdoom simply isn't.
But otherwise, answering your question, when I'm not busy I do verify stuff in the morning for like 30 minutes. Depending on what's in store it can be few runs or all the runs.
there's different leaderboard for Xbox Arcade version, go check it
