I have finished a Two Towns run of World Court Tennis. I would like there to be one in Final Lap Twin- and the second town can be any one other than Etroit (Lanta is recommended).

Just upload the parts. You probably won't get onto the leaderboard if actual savestates are present rather than in-game saves, but at least let us see the run so we can get some insight on how to do it better.

So... when is the first part going to be up? At least put them out as consistently as possible if you have them all.

Nah, some of the previous WRs had multiple parts (due to internet problems in the stream) and it was fine. If the game is long, people understand. It would just be way too much to splice.

I look forward to seeing how well the route worked for a new player. How easy it was to follow, how often you had to look at it to refresh yourself, and if it slowed you down or interfered with your play style at all.

I did try to limit the amount of segments or force them to be a certain length though. I was clearly anticipating the abuse of stopping segments after every single Domain trip. There would still be limitations, you just wouldn't need to do a whole run longer than a waking day in one go. And of course it would not take priority over the important full runs.

As we all know by now, DW2 is an infamously long and unforgivingly random game. I think a separate category for segmented runs would probably make it much more appealing. This is already what 100% runs of BOTW are doing, in addition to allowing the "TA" method of speedrunning, where you can pause the game, turn off the recording, and take short breaks after playing for a while. Of course, there should be some sort of regulation, such as a minimum amount of time for each segment (except for the last one of course), or a maximum amount of segments that you must finish a run in, or something that prevents you from playing it safe and perfecting small parts of the game together.

New Adventure Island on the Turbografx-16 does not have any moderator. That means that if you submit a run, it can't be put on the leaderboard, even if it's a legitimate World Record. There is one time, but the runner has quit.

I am already in charge of World Court Tennis, a Turbografx-16 game I pioneered. I love that game, and I love New Adventure Island. I am working on speedrunning that game, and would like to have the ability to put my time on, as well as anyone else's.

Thank you for reading.

Final Lap Twin currently only has one category: Quest Mode English. Here is where you suggest new categories.

Quest Mode Japanese

The Japanese version, and players who can’t understand English, are at a clear disadvantage. There is more text- two boxes for each encounter in English, three for Japanese. Japanese is more common and cheaper. It’s easy to forget, as a speed runner, that language barriers still exist.

F1 Grand Prix

The F1 Grand Prix is a 16-heat-long racing tournament that you need to win to get the game’s other ending. Despite being the first option in the menu (and shorter than Quest Mode) it’s less popular. It’s also separate from the F-3000 and doesn’t need to be unlocked.

Fine then. I’ll allow emulator when I can. But I do think allowing emulator will create more privilege discrepancies between runners, not less. Computer gaming is and has always been more expensive. The (English) Turbografx is expensive, but not computer gaming expensive. We’re only talking hundreds of dollars for old, unpopular consoles rather than thousands for what will likely be brand new PCs optimized for gaming.

And about cheating- emulators lack the buzz of old consoles, making splices harder to detect. Loading and lag can be inaccurate, and straight up modding or cheating is less obvious than on console. Less known is sound making a difference, whether it masks cheating or makes something faster in the game due to a sound being faster or cutting out.

I plan on allowing emulator now that I’m outvoted, but be aware of the complications that introduces. I would have no issues with it if there weren’t so many clear advantages to using emulators.

Edit: Done.

Despite being the first option in the main menu, the Grand Prix mode in Final Lap Twin is the more overlooked one compared to the Quest Mode. It seems the GP was intended to be the main mode due to all of the attract cutscenes focusing on it (and none focusing on the Quest Mode). There are no runs of it, or even recorded play throughs besides a tool assisted Longplay. There are two reasons for this: it isn’t as interesting, and it’s also much more difficult.

Throughout all sixteen races (!) there is one opponent who mainly stunts you: the Red Car. This car is programmed to always win, always catch up to you, and try to get in your way. Whenever you can, push the Red Car off of the track, and you will have few obstacles to gaining several positions. Keep doing this whenever the red car catches up to you. Your car is easier to push around than every other car, so push the red car into road signs during turns while you’re on the inside of the turn. You can even hang around the outer rim of a turn and trick the red car into speeding past you into the signs. The other cars can also, counter-intutively, be bumped into from behind for a speed boost. You can use this to gain small speed boosts throughout the race, and even use it to increase your bumping power in opportune times. Choose the 720 Car in each race and learn how to switch gears to accelerate, maintain speed and not fly off of the road during turns.

Without emulators, it’s easier to ensure nobody’s cheating. Also, everyone is on an even playing field. With emulator, the quality of computer might wildly vary. Keeping it limited to console is cheaper than the expensive and difficult computers you’ll need for decent emulation. A PC Engine Duo is cheaper than ever now, only costing $120-150 last I checked. The game may not look or sound as good, but I don’t care about that and it lowers the barrier to entry and evens the playing field.

Final Lap Twin in particular has three runs, all of which are on emulator. Do people not like using the Turbografx? It’s a good console. The controller is comfortable, the console is durable, and it’s easy to use. Many other leaderboards require consoles due to the lag reduction emulators offer. Lastly, being a fan of a console you don’t own or play for real is just tacky IMO.

  1. Text scrolls so fast in this game that it doesn't matter. You will lose more frames deleting letters than if you just pressed Start and selected OK.
  2. Vaccine is faster. Plus it takes less presses of the D-Pad to get to Gold Hawk than the other Guard Teams.
  3. Not going to answer that one, as the game is best run on console. Savestate manipulation is for practice only.
  4. SnowAgumon is important to the run. He is very powerful for that point in the game and easy to obtain for how powerful he is. Otherwise, you would have to spend a ridiculous amount of money on items to recruit a more advanced Digimon.

You should check out my guide. It is very thorough and will help you through the game.

I recently finished an extensive guide mostly based on ZChaotix's WR, which you can find in the Guides section. I even did some playtesting myself, and I can conclude the guide is a banger. We would greatly appreciate a new runner, as the game has been very inactive and could really use some new blood. Also, many current runners seem to have a hard time finding the time/interest to run the game, and I feel that that's definitely something that needs to be addressed. This game is so underdeveloped, someone who can run it semi-regularly would be enough of an improvement. Glad I came in at a good time!

One suggestion I would make is to get a Twitch channel. Some of my favorite streams to watch are learning streams. When learning the game, experts will be eager to help you. Casual viewers won’t be in the dark about how far along you are. Normal viewers won’t be interested, so it’s the perfect place to fail faster and get all of the embarrassing mistakes out. Plus it will make eager viewers much more patient and understanding. Best of all, learning streams carry no expectations to run the full game in one go or play without speeding up or using savestates. Normal viewers won’t be interested, so it’s the perfect place to fail faster and get all of the embarrassing mistakes out. Plus it will make eager viewers much more patient and understanding. Your audio and commentary doesn’t even have to be good.

Speed runs of Final Lap Twin are already done with use of having multiple fuel tanks in your inventory. Fuel tanks are very useful and are the cheapest item you can buy. The current strategy only uses two. But what if you could have five? Six even?

Having as many fuel tanks as possible will eliminate the need for Bodies completely and make the run much faster and safer. Of course, the five most recent fuel tanks are more than you will need, especially later in the game, but using each of them will cut several seconds off of each encounter. Just remember that swap them out.

One more thing: visiting the fuel refill place fully refills all of them, not just the fully equipped ones. You only need to buy a few motors and tires here and there if you take full advantage of this.

World Court Tennis is a game for the Turbografx-16 where you play tennis against opponents in an RPG-style quest mode. I would recommend it to any player of tennis games or RPGs. I have banned emulator, so you will need to play it on a real console though. If it ever gets re-released, I will allow that console as well. You can use flashcarts if you want, and there is also a device for the Turbografx-16 that makes it region-free.

World Court Tennis is the predecessor to Final Lap Twin. It is also on the same console and has the same hybrid RPG mechanics, except with tennis. It desperately needs runners. I would like to tell you that I did ban emulator though; you will need the real game to play it. You can record it however you like though, as long as the whole television or monitor is in view and is easy to see. I look forward to verifying runs!

How do I put dividers in? All I have to separate categories in my speedgame, World Court Tennis, is bubbles. I would like to put dividers in.

The King of Tennis isn't in the Japanese version. The final boss is, instead, the first enemy in the game with the same play ability of the King of Tennis in English. Just to let you know, you're not in the Japanese version.

I did delete all the previous videos on my channel due to the fact that I felt I wasn't getting anywhere in speedrunning. Anyway, I recently uploaded my first sub 1:20 to YouTube to return to speedrunning in 2020. It uses a new route that brings the pre-boss portion of the run down to being only 1/3 of the run. I recently discovered that not only can you beat the game with the Chicago racket, it's the best racket in the game, and that's blown the game open with new possibilities. I could come up with an even faster route soon.

Anyway, looking forward to verifying your runs! It's good to have interest in this game by someone other than me.

Update: check out my new guide if you want to see the best route.
