Focus on creating the tools for games to regulate it, then sensible decisions can be made, rather than trying to go and make all the decisions right away.
Glad we agree on that, Oh_Deer. One thing I really like about speedrun.com is that it takes a very humble, decentralized approach to things. And the problem of bad homebrew emulation should be handled similarly.
A concern I have is that while it's great to have a sitewide rule for Game Boy emulators, for other platforms you might have different emulators better or worse for different games.
Maybe just adding an emulator dropdown for emulator runs site-wide, and allowing game by game auto-rejects, would be good?
If the moderators of a game you care about don't know what they're doing, contact them? I don't see the problem here.
I think for games where it matters, it makes sense to have a custom variable with a list of emulators. Make it mandatory, and if people out in a bad one, then you know to reject it.
When you save an image you won't necessarily see the changes take effect immediately, due to caching.
The problem with having game mods design a home page is that that sort of thing takes a set of skills most mods might not have.
Maybe having a "game home page" as a ¤standard¤ thing beyond the default leaderboard, would be a benefit though. Have a set of blanks the mods can fill in, rather than giving them a free-form page which will just be a disaster.

The Classic Zelda Bounty Race discord is going to be used on race day for coordination. Should be low volume https://discord.gg/B2FGgC4

Any moderator who gets stubborn about new categories isn't doing his job as moderator and should be removed. People who want to be moderators just to be dictators, rather than a caretaker for the community, should be removed.
Of course a mod should listen to the community for a site like this.
A mod that makes arbitrary decisions without talking to folks isn't doing a good job.
I don't recall if I posted in this thread but the new layout is great and a huge improvement. Glad you did it.
Yeah there are small issues here and there to fix, but that happens. I look forward to when the (...) menu for verifying runs is broken back out, since that makes the verify link nearly invisible. But those are small easy fixes compared with getting the hard work done of putting up the new layout.
If I edit a run of Zelda II 100% All Keys, it changes the category to 100%.
Nah, but they don't matter. They get subtracted in a competitive context.
If you get a run you want to submit let me know and I'll help you use the sheet.
