Hello and welcome to the site!
Regarding your question about the method of recording, I've been able to find at least one instance of a run being recorded by hand and then verified on the leaderboard, so it's highly likely you can do it too (provided the footage shows the screen clearly).
If you still have doubts about it though, it can never hurt to ask in the game's forums for confirmation.
Best of luck with your runs!
Hello there!
First off, if you need a place to upload your videos I guess Youtube would be as good a place to start as any.
Once you have your recorded runs uploaded to a site, you can submit them to their respective game's leaderboard. In general, when you submit a new run to a leaderboard, you'll be presented with a form of sorts with a number of fields such as Category, Final Time, Platform (Console/PC) and Video Link, amongst others. In this last field I mentioned, you can just put your video's link so that mods can personally verify your run.
And that's all there is to it really! You are welcome to join in on discussions on the forums too if you wish as well.
PS: Did you have any games in mind or are you still searching for a game to run?
I understand that noone's actually saying that, but given the current behavior of the active runner counter, it would seem to be indirectly implying that. If this is not what it's intended to represent, then perhaps a modification would be in order.
Wait, IL runs don't count towards "active runners"? That seems like a bit of an oversight.
Are we really saying IL runners aren't true runners for the game?
On the topic of people not submitting runs to the leaderboards, I don't think we can really expect the site to take those into account. Sure, it'd be ideal to take into account every single person running the game outside of speedrun.com, but I don't think it's a realistic goal.
That being said, I believe that adding some sort of setting when searching for games to let the user decide what accounts for "Active Players" for them would help with this issue, since some users may consider "Active Players" as players with runs in the last 30 days while some would also include players with runs in the last year. I still believe this would be far from a perfect solution, but it might alleviate the problem somewhat.
Hello there! I believe indeed that this change would bring those categories to be more in line with other games.
Taking for example one of the games I run, Spider-Man 2000, it has exactly the same situation: at the end of the last level, immediately after finishing you get a cutscene that requires no inputs to complete (but you could also skip it manually), and in that case we stop the timer at exactly the moment the cutscene begins. As you mentioned, this avoids potential headaches when accidentally skipping the cutscene and I personally think it better represents when the user input really ends.
tl;dr I vote yarr!
@RealAlphaGamer Have your runs been verified at megamanleaderboards.net, given that the game's rules state that your runs must be verified there first? I tried doing a quick search for your user but I haven't been able to find you on there, so if you do perhaps it's a matter of the mods just not being able to identify your runs.
Provided the run complies with all the restrictions for both categories, you should be perfectly able to upload the same run to more than 1 category.
If you still have doubts about it though, you could try asking at the forums of the game you're trying to run (or you could also DM the mods of the game I guess).
Hey there, welcome to the site!
As a matter of fact, I do need some help writing a report on the subject of how to find bots more efficiently. (ಠ_ಠ)
It'd be better to redirect your efforts to the Duck Life 1 forums to get the attention of that game's community instead.
I believe that what @HerculesBenchpress means is that, while they're currently sorting by Real Time, they would much rather sort by In-game time. The issue at hand is that sorting by In-game time only would lead to ties in the leaderboard, and therefore they would like to use Real Time as a means to break the tie.
As reported by Hercules here though, the leaderboard will simply limit itself to sorting the runs in that manner, but the runs themselves would still be tied (ie. they would still hold the same place on the ranks).
For example, if two runs tied for 3rd place on In-game time but one was faster than the other on Real Time, you would see the faster Real Time run above the other one on the leaderboard (so, they're sorted correctly), but both would still be 3rd place.
EDIT: As an example of my point, here's the 52nd place for Metroid Fusion as of the writing of this post. Even though in this case the tie could be broken using the in-game time, the leaderboard merely uses that to sort them, but it doesn't break the tie.
Hello there!
So, first things first: this is really not the place to discuss such a topic, given that this section is for introductions. With that out of the way, let's get into the issue.
From what I gather from your post, I understand that you're trying to use the "Game Time" timing method instead of "Real Time". Now, the thing with "Game Time" is that it works exactly like Real Time, but with the difference that if the game you're running has a load remover available, it'll pause the timer during load times. Thus, If you put a Real Time timer next to a Game Time timer, you'll see that Game Time will pause during loads while the Real Time will not. That is the key difference between the two.
With that in mind, testing the Game Time timer with the game closed should be no different to the Real Time timer.
That'd be really great news! I tried my hand doing that as well but didn't get any meaningful results really.
Could you maybe upload a video to showcase how you are doing it? Perhaps then we can exactly pinpoint how to control it.
PS: I don't think there's a dedicated discord server for this game just yet
Even going as far back as Doom, there's a speedrun category for "UV Max", in which runs are done at the Ultra-Violence level and require you to finish with 100% secrets and killing each enemy in the level at least once, so I don't think this idea is that far out there. All that's really needed to add a new category to a game's leaderboard is for it to garner enough interest and to be accepted by the community as such.
With that in mind, I'd focus your efforts pitching this idea on the game's forums (or on their discord server) rather than here, since it's far more likely to get the attention of the other runners there. If you get them on board it'll be added in no time.
@k0zzx you weren't overlooked, @starsmiley clearly answered you in the previous page, and I quote:
"It wasn't overlooked. I requested that you have a pending run in queue before giving you moderation status."
Seems pretty straightforward to me
Hello there! There's plenty of people doing this just as a hobby, so it's perfectly fine if you don't feel like pushing too hard to lower times. Enjoy the runs!
Same here, I was now able to check his level runs. He did have some Spyro Reignited runs, so maybe the issue was with those?
Either way it's fixed now, so all's well that ends well.
