I can confirm I see the icon for the game on my Followed Games list now. Awesome!

Hey there, welcome!

If you're looking for a software to record your runs, there's a few options that work pretty well, but to name two:

  • Open Broadcaster Software, or OBS for short, is the one most people use (including myself) and it's completely free. Might look a bit daunting at first if you're new to this, but test it out for a bit and soon enough you'll get accustomed to its layout.
  • If you happen to have an NVidia graphics card, NVidia Shadowplay is also completely free. It works seamlessly and you barely even notice it running in the background, but it does lack some features that OBS has.

You'll probably also want to download Livesplit, which is the digital timer most runners use and gets the job done. It's pretty straightforward and shouldn't interfere much with any games you might try to run.

Next, you'll want to find a game to run. Every runner has a different way of finding their speedgames, but my personal advice is to simply find a game you really like to play casually (perhaps a game from your childhood you've replayed quite a few times). Speedrunning usually entails restarting the game quite often, so you'll be replaying the same bits over and over again, so if the game's not all that fun when playing it normally, speedrunning it might exarcerbate the problem.

Once you've found a game to run, you'll want to watch the World Record run and use it as a sort of guide of the entire run. I suggest watching it once before running the game to get the feel of the game, and then start practicing a few levels (or you could do a practice run instead). Once you have a few practice hours under your belt, you can re-watch the WR run and I guarantee you'll find more nuanced strategies that you couldn't notice before due to lack of experience. Rinse and repeat and you'll get your run going in no time!

Anyway, should you have any other questions feel free to ask. Good luck!

Sure beats the old strat in both time and being more interesting :D

Yeah, when you take up this hobby you end up discovering a lot of new stuff even about games you've replayed thousands of times. To be honest, it's actually part of the reason I started speedrunning to begin with: to explore some of those old games I loved as a kid in a new way.

Ditto, experiencing the same as well. If this is the tradeoff to get all the rest of notifications, it wouldn't be the end of the world tbh (though it'd be nice if they can come back).

Hey there, welcome! I personally believe that striving to improve yourself, helping other runners in need and just being an overall part of the community is what truly makes this experience what it is, so I totally understand where you are coming from., and I don't think you can really go wrong as long as you follow that mindset. Best of luck and happy running! :)

Hey guys! As the title says, I prepared a new custom icon for the game (which is basically the Karoshi sprite), which you can see for yourself here:

Given how iconic it is, it'd almost be criminal to not have it as the icon for the game here. Feel free to comment on it and use as you see fit!

PS: If you're wondering where would this "Game Icon" appear, you can see it in your profile settings in your followed games list, to the left of the game's title.

Also, you might want to check first if the teardown leaderboard accept pirated versions of the game, since steam unlocked isn't exactly providing you with a legal copy.

Hey there, welcome! I had more or less the same motivation when I beginned myself, and let me tell you it's a whole new experience.

Enjoy the site!

Hello and welcome to the site!

Given that you describe your pc as a total potato it's probably unlikely this is the case, but on the off chance that your pc has an NVidia graphics card, NVidia Shadowplay offers you recording software completely free and you should barely even notice it running in the background. It may lack a lot of features OBS has, but when I had a semi-potato PC this sure worked for me.

Hope that helps!

Hello and welcome to the site! No worries, just write whatever comes to you.

Got any games in mind you'd like to speedrun already or are you still scouting?

CTRL + F5 effectively busts the browser cache, making it so that any images/icons stored on it are cleared (thus requesting them again from the server and getting the new updated ones).

However, this only affects browser cache and not the server's (otherwise it'd be pretty broken), so if the icons are also stored on server cache then I'm afraid there's not much you can do other than sit on your thumbs and wait.

I think what @Timmiluvs is trying to say is that you need to give a little bit of context for us to understand what you're asking. At the very least, I personally still don't understand what you mean by "releasing your game".

I don't moderate any games, so I'm afraid I'm not able to help on that front. Hopefully someone else can step in and give some insight as to how to do just that.

You've got the "Levels Leaderboard" on by default. If you select the "Leaderboard" option on the menu on the left, it'll take you to the full game runs leaderboard and you'll see all the categories there.

Hello everyone! As the title says, I prepared new custom alternatives for the trophy icons for the leaderboard (the ones you get for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place).

I basically took the medal icons directly from the game and adapted them to become trophy icons, using the Knocked Out of Stadium medal as 1st place, Stopped Spinning medal as 2nd place and Missed Stadium as 3rd place.

In the particular case of the 3rd medal I had to re-color it to look more like the 3rd place copper trophy to avoid confusions, but I also provided the icon for the medal with the original color should you prefer that one.

You can see them here on these links: • 1st place2nd place3rd place with copper coloring3rd place with original color

If you'd like to see how they'd look on the leaderboard, you can see this photo here to give you a rough idea.

Anyways, feel free to check them out and use them as you see fit!

PS: If you guys find them a bit lacking still and someone else would like to elaborate on the idea, I wouldn't mind either.

Hello everyone! As the title says, I prepared new custom alternatives for the trophy icons for the leaderboard (the ones you get for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place).

In short, I just took the different pickups you get throughout the game and converted them into trophy icons according to their colors: Spidey-Armor Pickup for 1st, Health Pickup for 2nd and Fire Cartridge Pickup for 3rd. Given that they mimic the original icons' color palette almost perfectly, I was hoping for these to look quite nice, but I'm afraid they might end up being too small when seen on the leaderboard to notice the details.

With that in mind, I decided to post the links to the icons here anyway so that you can see them and tell me your opinion: • 1st place2nd place3rd place

If you'd like to see how they'd look on the leaderboard, you can see this photo here to give you a rough idea.

Anyways, feel free to check them out and use them as you see fit!

@Mentro I completely agree with you, and at first I did try to find something of the sort for Rumble Arena, but couldn't come up with anything.

The closest I got to a "Rumble Arena Icon" would have been the balls you use for the basketball mini-game, which I don't recall seeing anywhere else, though using those as a trophy might look a bit odd.

...But for the sake of being thorough, I just made a set for that icon to test it out as well, and you can see it here:

I'd personally choose the first batch since it looks a bit more consistent, but I'd be cool with either decision.

PS: If you guys have any other ideas for what could possibly become an icon, send them my way and maybe I can work on them too :)
