Good luck with your runs!

Just for future reference, as long as we're talking about NES/SNES/N64/PS1 communities, most of them usually accept runs done on emulator in some shape or form (be it through a separate leaderboard for emulator times, a sub-category or on the main leaderboard taking only the loadless times into account), so if you have other old console games that you're fond of, it might pay off to check those out as well.

If you're into puzzle games and you're looking for a short speedgame, I guess Helltaker could possibly be your cup of tea.

As for RPGs, they tend to be quite grindy and long for speedrunning in general (usually taking several hours to complete a single run), and while there's nothing inherently wrong with running them, it might be a good idea to focus on shorter genres first. This is merely a suggestion and you're welcome to choose whatever you prefer though. :)

Merl_ isn't hating on the game, but he's merely pointing out that you've been flooding the threads here recommending the game, even on threads where the original post was from years ago.

If it had been just this thread it'd be ok as a self-advertisement, but please try to dial down on the amount of posts. Just once is enough to get attention on the game :)

What version of the game are you referring to? Right now there's Java Edition, Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Classic, with the first two having their own category extensions as well.

Since I suspect you refer to Minecraft Classic (but could be wrong), your best bet to get this category added might be to reply to this sticky thread on the game's forums that centralizes all of the category suggestions for Minecraft Classic. In case you're not referring to classic, disregard this post.

I'm not sure what this new category would entail, but I think your best bet to get it added is either posting this on the game's forums (explaining the rules for the category), or alternatively you could also join their discord server and ask the community there instead if they'd be interested.

EDIT: Digging around for a bit, I found a thread that already had a similar question: https://www.speedrun.com/mcbece/thread/sqie8

@Lieutenant_Boo I don't recall ever hearing that rule about the Pope to be honest, but given the weird nature of The Game it's not really that out there.

PS: But in all seriousness, I'm actually interested in knowing whether people have heard from this ancient meme (and if so, when and where), given that I suspect that it'll be unknown for quite a few people.

Personally, I started speedrunning because it adds a lot of replayability to old games I loved playing as a kid.

With single player games, I normally don't revisit them unless I never actually finished them or a long time has passed since the last time I played them, so really speedrunning was the perfect excuse to start playing them again.

After a while I also found out that speedrunning the game changed my outlook on it, and it was generally an entirely new experience. Playing a game casually is one thing, but mastering a game's movement and speed techs to reach new heights in your play feels really rewarding, and while I may not be the best in any of the games I've ran in the past, I can certainly feel proud of how far I've come from my nooby self back when I started attempting runs for all of them (that's not to say I'm not still a noob though, just marking some progression LUL ).

Also, being bored and having a little challenge for yourself is always a good motivation. :)
Maybe mods should ask for proof calls, or challengers could contest a video-less run to prompt a proof call in the case of a video disappearing from its host site?

That brings in a problem tho: if that runner has left the hobby, or has passed away; is their run invalid even though it was legitimately verified just because they're no longer around/alive to put forward re-re-verified proof? I dont like the thought of that to be honest. I think a lot of these players want their times recorded for posterity and don't want to constantly have to reverify already verified runs while worrying the minute they kick the bucket their run will be invalidated.
@Brakshow Once a run has been verified and has been around for a long period of time (we're talking years here, usually leading to most if not all of the community to have had time to watch and validate the run for themselves), I think it's fair to say that the burden of proof would lie on the challenger rather than on the original runner, so it shouldn't really be an issue.

I mean, if a person wants to contest that a 10+ year old run is fake, they better back up their claim with solid evidence. I'm not saying that old runs can't possibly be fake even after all that time, but such an accusation shouldn't be something you just throw around without some deep consideration first either.
