I forgot this strat existed for the longest time. Now I want to do a 100 packages run with this.
Well, people actually run 16 Stars and Inbounds in their respective games at least. All Missions does have a clear definition and a reasonable objective (beating "all" of the missions, regardless of the definition of "all"). However, much competition in this category has always been lacking, which alone makes it feel very "miscellaneous". Anyone could just say "oh hey let's make a new category called All Assets, which would involve All Missions & Assets. This is a run that could be considered a form of "beating the game", as with Any%, All Missions, and 100%. Let's make it a main category because of that."
It's not like many people would run that category anyway. It'd be pointless. The only reason All Missions should stay where it is would be because of the existing runs. Anyway, this whole discussion is actually kinda pointless, because the result won't threaten the existence of the category, and if Frew would rather have it stay where it is, then so be it. It's not like I actually give a shit about whether or not it's considered misc., but at least we got some thoughts in should this arise in the future, where circumstances may be different.
I was talking with m00nchile in Kyle's chat just now about some VC stuff, and I remembered Gaël mentioning that the racers could decide if they wanted to do old strats or not, but I'm not too sure. Anyway, I don't think that should be disallowed for, e.g. Tyr and Fatzke to do a race with old strats, because they aren't exactly accustomed to all the new stuff, and it would still be Vice City and it would put them on a more level playing field. Sure, there is more RNG, but it would be for them both.
I guess there would be some problems with this though. If Tyr made it to face against a new runner who only knows the duping route, then Tyr wouldn't have had any extra preparation with the new strats and it'd be an easy 30-minute disadvantage for him. The thing I'm saying is though, is that if two runners happen to be fine with racing with any pre-duping route, then it should be permitted situationally.
There is zero point in:
-- changing the definition of all missions to be more true to the "all" part of it, and obsoleting every single run under that category;
-- creating a new all missions category based on this, because interest for such a category doesn't seem high anyway, and it would only further complicate things;
-- removing all missions altogether, because of the number of past runs and the possibility of people wanting to run it in the future, and the fact that it's a full-game run despite its arbitrary definition (hence the suggestion of making it misc.).
That's what I have to say for now
I'll elaborate on my own opinion on this.
While some people (including myself) have taken the category seriously in the past, it was never a main category, and it's a bit arbitrary. It should remain on the leaderboards for those past runs, and for those who would want to run this seriously, but it never was anything that would be considered main, but just a 100% practice category really.
My setup one year and three months after the previous picture. Now with 100% more torn-apart looking desk.
Yeah disregard what I said above. I guess it comes down to personal preference then, since zoton's tool should be ridiculously easy to figure out.
So I see there is Story 100% and there is bonus 100%, but there is no Story + Bonus 100%. Is there any reason for there not to be such a category? Otherwise, I think I'd like to do runs of that, and that it'd make sense to add it.
if PW can even stream with his crappy new internet adamAyy
Wording what Bosz says. JP is faster, obviously, but I think that is one of the reasons that put off many people in of itself, was the fact that they'd have to buy / be otherwise arsed to obtain a different copy of the game just for speedrunning.
probably isn't consistent and probably won't speed up anything but whatever
If it's the best time, it's WR.
For me personally, though, I won't go around bragging about my new WORLD RECORD unless it's either a legitimately amazing time, or a decent time in an actual competitive game. While this run isn't exactly the time I want, it's still #1 in a game with nearly 100 entries on the leaderboard, so I can safely brag about it being a WR.
On the other hand, this run is the only run with these strats, plus it isn't even that good. It's still technically the WR, but I won't label it as such so I don't draw unnecessary attention to a bad run.
aaand then we have this run, which is literally the only run of this category EVER. The difference here is that since nobody else runs it, it may be helpful to, as JimmyNintendo said above, label the run as WR to actually draw attention and possibly get others interested. It really depends on how I feel about the run though.
You can do what you like with your runs though, just giving my thoughts on the matter.
Yeah as SiFly mentioned, the most common Age of Empires I / II speedruns are individual level speedruns. There are a few full-campaign runs in existence but they are not that optimized or anything.
For everyone else I know, OBS + monitor capture works. I think I already suggested that using Windows 7 may be your problem here. I think Fraps still works with AoE+ Win7 though, so you could try that.
