I've been doing that in my runs.
will update this forum post thing, im stratfinding rn and have found some interesting stuff
Strat 1: Bat quick kill Normally you run underneath the bat and hit it to the left. This is slow. I found a way to save about half a second over that. I jump and hit the bat immediately, and then keep hitting it to the right side of the screen. When it gets to the right of the screen, hit it again and it will rebound to the left. Turn around, and wait a bit before you swing the whip, otherwise you will moonwalk and take damage. Hit it and it will die before it gets to the left edge of the screen. I can pull it off in stage 1, I don't know about 3 and 4
Backup 1: You can take damage in level 2 and not lose time if you get hit while waiting for a platform or while on stairs. However, the health refill takes longer after the boss kill. There is a health refill right before the boss in the breakable block on the corner of the stair. You can whip when you stand on it and it will break even though it is under you. You can then hold right. This saves at most .3 seconds and doesn't save any time over an optimal run but its really easy to do.
Softlock: I found a softlock in level 2. When you fall into water, you usually die. But in level 2, there is a spot where you can stand and not die. You can't die or jump out of the pit, so you softlock and have to reset. The pit is right next to the chicken.
Easter egg: In level 2 (top path) there are stairs that lead up to the boss arena. Instead of climbing up the stairs, jump to the right and die. There is a wall and two letters that say "TF". Idk if this is intentional or accidental. It's interesting nonetheless.
Wrong Warp: In level 3, dying on the right side of the ledge in the 2nd room play the death animation in the 4th room. Its weird idk what to do with it.
I don't know what you guys are doing differently but the "fastbridge" thing saves at least a second im pretty sure anyways, how can a 3 damage hit happen? is it random
Wait how is 4 hits possible? Two damage per hit a nd 4 hits means only 8 damage can be dealt? Is there a way to do 3 damage?
I'm looking at some of the runs on the leaderboard. Right now, my any% pb has a 5 hit demon kill. Same with koma's and yours. I don't know how much time a 4 hit kill would save though. It only saves 1 whip attack, so maybe like .3? I think it would be pretty interesting to look into, but right now there are other larger timesaves in the any% route that could be incorporated. As for what you said about how the "crit" might work, I think it is more likely that there is some property the demon has that allows this. Other bosses, like the slime, can't be quick killed if you are inside their hitbox I'm pretty sure. The game was modeled after Castlevania, so it could be an intentional reference? I don't even want to try to understand the pico-8 code, so if it becomes important, I could maybe see if I could get in contact with the game dev and ask them about it.
Sorry for making a third forum post in one day, but why aren't there categories for hard mode?
Currently, there is no guides or resources for this game. This isn't very important, but I'd recommend adding a link to the game in the resources or website part of the page and maybe making a few guides. It was really hard for me to figure out how to one-cycle the demon, and im sure that other new runners may have the same problems, or other issues with learning the game.
But I don't have a good pc. Most people dont
both me and jannik have gotten 15/16 levels blue. level 10 is impossible to do in 3 moves. all others are possible. good luck
https://www.speedrun.com/gbtce Please set the game type to Category extension
- You don't need to do a background check on everyone you make a mod. Also, as a mod of a different game TreeWonTwoToFor ran, I can confirm that they are a trustworthy and legitimate runner.
- What other categories are there? Other than any% and 100% I can't see much else. Why don't you just tell us what you have in mind?
- That's not that unusual. Other games have non runners as owners or admins (karlson, hello neighbor, etc.)
- I looked through their forum posts, and I have no clue where you got the idea that they think that from. They never said that.
@Saori stop being so aggressive. Also, forum posts aren't a good way to measure how active someone is. If you had just asked politely, you probably would have been made a mod. But you're being so aggressive and unreasonable that I don't think that you are qualified to be a mod of any game at all. Chill out.
@Tri-fox please don't respond to dead or old threads for no reason, it just clogs our notifications and isn't important
Currently, the way runs are timed on Karlson has a problem. Normally, timing is done using real time. However, you use in game time if you have the autosplitter. This may not seem like a big deal at first, but there is a flaw with having two timing methods. Let's say that I had a time of 1:59 igt, and 2:01 real time. (My time isn't this good I suck, but this is hypothetical). Normally, this would put me in 19th place, just ahead of Handymail. But what if I didn't use the autosplitter? Now my run would use real time, not in game time. So even though my in game time is faster than Handymail's, and my real time is faster than Handymail's real time, my run is lower than his on the leaderboard. Now, you may just say that "its easy to install livesplit and the autosplitter", so just do that. But that doesn't solve the problem. I shouldn't be able to use an external tool to save time. And it doesn't fix the run that I already have (i dont actually have a 159 this is hypothetical ok). So, I suggest that the timing should be done exclusively IGT from now on. (runs that were done RTA could be grandfathered in and stay on the leaderboards, or you could retime them all. Or you could just ignore this post, I guess) "But how will we find IGT without the autosplitter" The thing is, the autosplitter isn't even necessary to find what the in game time is. You can just look at the final time on each level completed, and add them all together. I tested this on several runs, and the sum of the level times is always the same as the final time on the autosplitter. And if you pause and restart in the middle of a level, you can just find the time they paused the game, and add that to the time. So the autosplitter makes runs easier to verify, but isn't necessary to find IGT. A few other games use timing methods like this, where you just add the level times together (sonic 2 and mike tyson's punch out for example), so this would probably work, and would eliminate problems like this from happening.
I would like to be added as a mod for https://www.speedrun.com/jumpnull The only mod for that game has been inactive for over a year. When I went to their profile, they only have their youtube and discord linked. They havent posted on youtube in 2 years. I tried to join some of the speedrunning discord servers from other games they were moderators of, but they weren't members of those servers. I don't know if I can contact them.
