The "You are Player [X]" Box only appears for moderators, so you can use that box instead of Typing your own name in, it doesn't appear for standard users.

So this is something we've been doing for a while, but recently we've been having more people post times without video proof, and so we'd like to be clearer on how we're currently managing this.

At the moment, we will investigate a time further if you do not have a video and your time is: Under 3:00 in Any% (Mario) Under 2:55 in Any% (Luigi) Under 6:30 in 120 Stars Under 13:30 in 242 Stars

If your run fits in these categories then we will look for other evidence for you run, such as splits and evidence of past runs/broadcasts. If you have even a partial vod for your run, or it was streamed somewhere but for some reason the vod is corrupted, please let us know in the submission so that we can obtain more evidence.

Unfortunately, without any proof we will not be accepting runs below these times. If you cannot use a capture card, consider recording your video with just a webcam pointed at your screen, or a phone camera or similar. The quality isn't too important so long as we can see video evidence for the majority of your run. Also bear in mind higher scrutiny will be placed on people who improve in large jumps without video evidence, and those who obtain new PBs often in a short period of time, so please do try and find a way to start recording your runs if you currently don't.

NOTE: These times were updated on Feb. 5th 2017 - Threshold for needing a video has been lowered for 120 and 242 stars.

It stops you from submitting multiple runs very close to each other, I had some issues when migrating a leaderboard recently to the site. It also prevents you from editing a run very soon after submitting. Just to note that if you click edit soon after submitting but then wait on the edit page for a while it still triggers, so the timer seems to be checked when you load the page, not submit.

A possible option for ceres escape would be to take the value the countdown starts at, and then remove the escape time, while having the escape time listed as an in-game time, and then sorting by RTA to get the correct ordering. It's a bit messy but it works within the current structure. (e.g. if the countdown starts at 90s, then a 32.45s escape time would be 57.55 real time, with the in-game time listed as 32.45 being the correct value)

This seems like a really helpful way to organise categories, I just have a question about setting it up on a board. If the categories are already setup is there a way to move things around without having to re-enter all of the times manually?

This option already exists and has to be turned on by the game moderators for 3 decimal places.

Bear in mind games that have in-engine ways of timing usually can go as accurate as system clock, which for modern PCs, a resolution all the way down to 1/10,000,000 of a second. I usually only see the millisecond option enabled for games that support this kind of timing, as opposed to manually splitted games.

United KingdomMLSTRM9 years ago

Yeah, GCN is the platform most people run on. iirc the difference between that and Xbox is a little over a minute.

United KingdomMLSTRM9 years ago

So for Ty 1 I think this is pretty reasonable, since all loading screens are pretty clear cut, although it's going to be annoying to time them out for console runs since you'd have to basically watch back the recording and do it manually. (I guess an option here is to let people do that if they want to, and have a separate time without loads column on the LB that takes priority where it exists?) But it does seem easily standardised

However for Ty 2 at least (not sure on 3) there are some loading segments that can't be timed out properly, which are the area transitions. How would we go about standardising things around that, since as far as I can tell, there's no real way to time out the area transitions unless you ignore some movement, which then means it's not really considering the whole run imo.

(Also wow I'm really late to this discussion, bad at keeping track of the forums I guess)

EDIT: Another thought is using the in-game timer? Has it really been tested to see if it's accurate or not? You could just then pause the game after beating the boss and read of the IGT?

Oh nice, I was looking to pick this game up soon, and if you guys are doing regular races then that seems like a pretty good way to get into it! I was wondering if anyone had done a tutorial or a written guide, or if its easy enough to pick up what's going on just from watching runs?

Hi,

As you may have noticed in the last couple of weeks, the majority of Final Fantasy games have moved over to speedrun.com for leaderboard purposes, and I was wondering what your thoughts on including the Tactics games into that set are? Everything in terms of moderation would be left as is, and the games would just move into the FF series so that everything is in one place. I understand if that's not something you want to do, I just think it's worth considering so that we can have all of the FF games in a single place, to make it easier for people to find and browse them within the site, as well as only having to link one page for people to find all of the FF runs, instead of having to note that the FFT games are on a separate section.

I get the same message if I verify a run with a twitch vod attached before the video loads in.

Gyre, if you just post in the game's forum or contact the mods they'll be able to edit the name on the runs so they sync into your account.

Also if anyone wants to start using the logos, you can find them all here: http://1drv.ms/1NchcI3

OK, so for abbreviations, ff_1 is currently taken by a farm game (not really sure what I think here but ok: http://www.speedrun.com/ff_1 ), but any other variations on ff[whatever] seem to be clear so we can reassign urls as necessary. I guess we just use initials or number whichever is appropriate? (Like some are already: ff1, ffa, ffmq, ff2, ff3, ffx-2, ff13-2 etc?) The only issue then is Crystal Chronicles and Crisis Core, although I think here assigning Crystal Chronicles CC makes more sense since then the other games of the sub-series can follow as ffcc_[x] (e.g. ffcc_tcb), and then Crisis core could be 7CC?

Also shall we reach out to the guy running the Final Fantasy Tactics series and see if they want to merge in here? It seems kind of out of place to have it on its own when there isn't splitting off of anything by sub-series as far as I can tell. It's currently all run by one guy called noxlol (who doesn't have any submitted runs), so if anyone has contact with him we can ask him directly, else I might just post in the forums for those games.

So the sizes of the logos aren't really too much of a problem, the box-art sizes vary between 180x128 and 100x180, so it's just a case of fitting the logo inside of a square and making it tidier. All of them work on a white background with the exception of LR (text is very light and hard to read on white), and Mystic Quest? (I couldn't find a non-black background version of the logo, and trying to edit it manually looks bad, still working on it).

As for theme I meant something more along the lines of a colour scheme than actually anything image based. I made a quick mock-up of how it could look if we went with logos for what we currently have, you can see it here (The black backgrounds really stand out here, but I'm still working on ideas at least): http://imgur.com/D0vz5HN.jpg

I can supply the logo files if people want, but obviously I'd like it if at least most of us could agree on a direction for the series page before doing anything.

Hey guys, so it's been a while since the first couple of games were added here, and since then the number of represented titles has increased significantly. While the individual game pages seem to be ticking along fine (I haven't heard of any issues from anyone), I'd like to address the state of the series page as it is currently. There are 2 things I'd like to bring up and get feedback on people from.

The first is switching all game icons over from boxart/original logos (1,2,7,8,9,etc.) to the game's "Iconic FF Style" logo (12,13,4,4AY,etc.). I personally think that the latter type are much clearer to find a game you're looking for, easier to read and understand, and also removes the implication that a certain platform is the only version represented by the boxart (e.g. ff7/8 have a PS1 image and PC runs, FFX has a PS2 image but PS3/4 runs).

The second is somehow getting a theme for the series page. While at the moment there are no series moderators, and it's not really an issue, I think that we should get some suggestions for a theme from anyone who wants to make one, and we can decide as a community which one we like best, and then contact the site mods to get it in place.

I'd like to hear your feedback on both of these points, and also like to thank everyone who'd put time into making a leaderboard on this site for their game and bringing over the runs. I appreciate how tedious it can be to convert a leaderboard over.

Hey guys, I have a question about boxart for games, is there a certain range of sizes that work best? I've found that if you use an image that is too wide it gets compressed horizontally and looks pretty bad, but it seems like you can have really tall images so I'm wondering what the boundaries are?

The cheapest entry level options are a Dazzle-DVC 100 and the EZCap (note the spelling) 116. The Dazzle tends to be better for American systems from my experience, and it has SVideo so you can capture in a nice quality (second only to component, but that requires a large investment to capture). One of those 2 would be absolutely fine for starting out, and you don't need to break the bank to get them. From what I recall the EZCap has a model called the EZGamer that comes with the required cables, but you will need to purchase them for the dazzle. You would need a splitter (so you can have the signal go to your TV and to your capture device), and then cables to fill in the gaps, but all of these tend to be very cheap.

From what I recall when a run is rejected, there's a chance to enter a reason. That could then be used something along the lines of "This run has been obsoleted due to a change in ruleset" or similar. I agree that it seems out of place though. While it does prevent abuse it causes issues for when leaderboards want to make major shifts in rulings and possibly a large number of runs must be removed (Thinking of prime 3 where low% has changed definition a couple of times in the last months, each time all the runs need to be removed [not that there's many, but it is an example])

United KingdomMLSTRM9 years ago

So I have a slightly unrelated question. As of right now you're only splitting by platform and NG/NG+, but I'm wondering about the eventuality of someone doing a run on a different difficulty from cadet (I know at least a couple of people are thinking about NG Agito), seeing as times wouldn't really be comparable would it be split off, or would we just have to leave it all on the same leaderboard (which I think is un-representative for a game like this, and splitting the difficulty á la KH or P¤ games would fit better)
